I was passing through Dayton and decided to get my operating system updated. A friend told me about Mac Depot.

I went in and made it very clear that I was in town for a few days only, but they assured me they could work within my time limit. The tech said they would only charge me the fee for the op system, and figure out labor after it was installed.

When he ran my card, he charged the full amount of the system and the labor, apologized and said he would make the adjustment when I picked up the computer later. (strike one)

I called the following day to inquire about my machine. I was told on the phone that there was some trouble, but that they would be in touch with me. I did not hear from them. (strike two)

The next day they called to tell me that there was a problem with my machine that they could not address before I left Dayton because they would have to send it to mac directly.

When i went to pick up my laptop, they refunded me the operating system cost, and the labor cost, but they charged me a diagnostic fee - their diagnosis being that they could not fix my computer.

Also, my computer was working fine when I left it with them, but now won't even boot up at all.

I don't understand why they didn't give me the option of a diagnostic when they realized there was a problem, and I am left feeling as if they had to grab any money possible since they couldn't do what we agreed on them doing.

So now I have a dead laptop, and I'm out a diagnostic fee.

I believe that I should have been given the option of diagnosis, and I gave them ample opportunity to present the case as I called them.

I truly regret going to Mac Depot.

Although policy requires me to buy directly from Apple on a corporate account, I've used MacDepot for in and out of warranty repair for many years. Even though they didn't sell me the products, I've received nothing but excellent service, especially from Greg, the owner. Most recently, this was on a mission-critical, high-powered Mac Pro.

Whether or not an item is covered by warranty is determined by Apple, after MacDepot's troubleshooting, and the speed at which the repair is accomplished is also determined by how quickly Apple ships them the parts. I expect to pay them to troubleshoot an out-of-warranty product, even if I determine the Apple repair solution they must use isn't economically the best choice. This is true for MacDepot, as it is for their competitor in Dayton, where I once did NOT get good service.

I have a lot of experience with MacDepot, and it's all been great.

When you enter the MacDepot, you won't be greeted with hugs and kisses and bells and whistles but you will receive the expertise you need. They are a serious bunch at the Depot but ready and willing to assist you with your needs. I wanted to thank Greg (manager) once again for his professionalism and caring response to my dilemma. His expertise is really admired. My computer is operating wonderfully and I can??t thank him enough for finding my 20,000+ photos and restoring my iPhoto library to my Macbook. I would definitely recommend him and his associates to those I know.

I had such a great experience at the Mac depot. I was having a serious problem with my iPhone, and had no clue how to go about fixing it. I figured I would have to drive all the way to Columbus in order to get it fixed. But Greg told me to bring it by the Mac depot to see if he could help. Man am I glad I took him up. He took care of me right away, knew exactly what to do, and got my phone up and running in about 10 minutes. What really shocked me was that I offered to pay him for his services and he refused any payment. I had never purchased anything from that store before in my life. That was actually my first time stepping foot in the store and Greg saved the day for free!!! I will definitely go back there in the future.

Yes they are very knowledgeable at MacDepot, but I can no longer tolerate the rudeness of Greg Herting. I thought I might give it one more try and avoid Greg this time. Unfortunately, an employee couldn't answer my question and put Greg onto me. Rude, belittling and extremely negative. That was my last trip. I will eat the extra gas and drive to MacTown at the Dayton Mall from here on out.

My HD died..under the apple protection warranty. Called and they said 3-5 business days. Had it back in 4 business days. Exceptional service, positive attitude, very helpful. I did call around to other mac repair centers...could only get voice mail, even during business hours. MacDepot, spoke to a "live person", with immediate answers. I had work done there a couple of years ago as well, same quality service. Highly recommend.

I bought the newest model of Ipod Nano from these guys yesterday. The clerk told me when I asked if I could use former FM transmitters to play it wirelessly through my radio, that I didn't need an external transmitter as the new Nano has one inside. Well, when I heard this, I said "hey! that's a major selling point," and I bought it. Guess what? That information was incorrect and now I'm 700 miles away from MacDepot with a 160 dollar device that doesn't do what I was told it would. Overall, the workers there are terse and impolite. Just order from the internet and save yourself the hassle of shoddy service and (essentially) lying sales people.

A review of insider pages or safari: this site won't let me set the stars below 5, because I accidentally clicked 5. I'd give em' a zero if the site would let me.

I brought my macbook here recently due to a headphone jack breaking off inside of the input. I informed them about my situation and that I would like it removed.

They told me that it was covered under warranty and that I should hear from them in around three to five days. I left the store feeling confident that they would do so.

After five days of not hearing from them I decided to call them to check up on my mac. They told me that it was not covered under warranty and that they had tried several ways to remove it.

I was told that the jack was unremovable and that I needed to replace an entire part because of it. I asked how much that would be. They responded with the ridiculous price of $920.

I went to pick it up where they attempted to charge me $53 for a diagnostic fee. I ended up not paying that, brought my computer home and took the piece out myself in 5 mins.

Long but appropriate review, Stay clear of this place

I didn't think that a company could have worse service than Best Buy, but I was wrong.

I brought in a MacBook Pro to them to replace a broken superdrive, which was under warranty. After more than a week of no calls or updates, they finally called me in. When I got there, I was told that the superdrive was fixed, however during the repair process a technician scratched the screen on the computer.

I agree to let them replace the screen on the computer at no charge. After almost three weeks of not hearing back from them, I finally called Apple and complained about this whole thing - magically, right after I spoke with Apple, one of their technicians called me and informed me that a screen is in and I can come in to have the scratched screen replaced.

This whole experience was an absolute disaster. I also suspect they put a used/broken screen in the machine because the screen they put in my computer now developed burnt pixels (only a couple of months after being replaced) and it can no longer go blank in powersave mode. My machine is no longer under warranty so I have been screwed by them no matter.

I would never recommend this place to anyone. They are rude, incompetent and they treat customers as if they are a bother to the employees. Please stay far away if you know what's best for you.

My real name was included above, to ensure that nobody thinks this is a retaliatory review, so feel free to contact me directly if you have questions about this.

I needed a new laptop for myself and a gift Ipod for my son. Greg (store magr.) was patient, helpful and very knowledgeable. He helped me change my choice of notebook, and I am glad I did even though I had to up my budget slightly. He was very competitive with online pricing I brought with me. I lost a power cord, and went back 5 months later... and he re-affirmed competitive pricing and good service.
Store is very clean, well organized. Nice people to deal with.

One can easily purchase Apple equipment from a variety of sources. I bought from MacDepot because I wanted to be able to deal with local experts face-to-face regarding products and services rather than dealing with a voice on a mail-order company phone line. A preliminary shopping trip convinced me that General Manager Greg Herting and the MacDepot staff really understand Apple equipment, are actually excited about their products, and would definitely be there for me if and when I needed them for anything. This was especially important to me because I had always used Windows-based computers, and, while I was extremley impressed with what I had heard about the new iMac G5 Apple computers and its operating system, I had never actually owned an Apple computer. I subsequently purchased an iMac G5 and some peripheral equipment, and the folks at MacDepot lived up to my every expectation. The iMac G5 is a great computer (as I mentioned, I am a very recent Windows convert), and Greg and the rest of the MacDepot folks have taken excellent care of handling all of my (many) inquiries and (very specific) requirements. I am not an easy customer; I expect a lot for what I pay for, but based on my experience with the folks at MacDepot, I will definitely continue to be a MacDepot customer.

I first went into the MAC Depot to look at their selection of iPods. While the store is really small, the staff is eager to help you find or locate what you need. If you dont see what you want, just askthe staff is very helpful.

Prices are a little below retail for MAC products and the repair services are very reasonable. You dont find many MAC-only stores, so its good that this one is satisfactory!

PROS: Great Service
CONS: Small selection and store
