Beardens is probably the first restaurant I was ever in. We lived on Cornwall right across the street. I was born in 1951. Mom would take us there when the weather was hot or when she was feeling tired. We would arrive around 5:15, find out which side of the restaurant Edna was serving and find a table on her side of the room. As young kids the train caught our attention. Sometimes after dinner, or occassionally with a carry out order, we would drive the two blocks east and watch the railroad switch engine push cars around the tracks serving Prasse Lumber and the other businesses with spurs feeding their loading docks. Got only one or two rides in the Engine, but how that made a young child's heart race. The little train back at Bearden's brings back those memories and others all relating to food there up to this very moment 2 January 2011 when I have just been told this location was closed December 31, 2010. My out of town wife expressed the same feelings as I did when I read the text message from my younger sister, Barb, who is spending her first Winter in Florida. How could it have happened? I will miss the food and atmosphere. Is there another location? You took me there almost every time we were in Rocky River visiting your parents. It was special to lots of people.
Each stage of life can be remembered in relationship to Bearden's. The first time a single hamburger was finished at the restaurant. When a Beardenburger was first ordered. Then the ultimate and unbelieveable experience of ordering a Bearden Burger basket( you know it already: a Bearden's Burger with ketchup and relish, French Fries, cole slaw and a malted milk shake - strawberry or vanilla. Out of town girlfriends were taken there if they had a chance of being a wife. The Spring of 1993 a meal was had at Bearden's and across the table was my fiance. Visits to my parents in Rocky River on Cornwall were almost always sure to include some food from Beardens. Up to now, since February 16, 2006 when my father died in Lakewood Hospital, going out of the way to have a meal at Beardens was a way of hoping to see childdhood friends or to at least visit the neighborhood.
Best of luck to those whose careers were spent working at Beardens. Your service provided years of memories for more than just my generation. Kensington Elementary School teachers would come at lunch time. 11:30 to 1:00. The parking lot was a short cut to Rocky River Junior High since our neighborhood was not served by bus transportation to that school. Who will buy the train set? That is a huge auction item. That train set has to be part of the Rocky River Historical Society's collection. How many exhibits will there be at the Rocky River Public Library of photos and memorabilia from Bearden's. I remember the off duty police officers in their Rocky River uniforms in the parking lot. Guess that traffic like that was what was needed to keep the place viable. Is this another victim of 911? The stone thrown in the water created ripples which washed over this bright star of the west side of Cleveland.

Cons: no carhops lol

Love this place.
Great burgers, fries, and atmosphere.
There is a train that circles above the seating area in the restaurant and it's a great place to bring your children to keep them occupied while eating.
They'll never get bored with Bearden's fries and milkshakes.
I have been coming to this restaurant with my grandfather for years and I highly recommend it for families!

This restaurant is a fun and delicious trip back to the fifties. Huge, juicy burgers which are seldom seen any more are readily available. Go and enjoy the food and atmosphere.

There is not a place I have ate a burger at in my life that rivals Beardens. I have been eating at Beardens since I was a little kid and still love it. There isn't much more I can say, I haven't eaten really anything else there that I can remember, LOL. The little kids like the train, most adults find it annoying but it reminds me of when I was a little kid, it was the only West Side Restaurant we would go to.

I just went to Bearden's for the first time and thought the food was delicious (huge, juicy hamburgers that lived up to its reputation and fame) and the prices were good. The service was okay - the check was given to us halfway through the meal without even asking if we wanted dessert, which gave me the impression they wanted to clear us out fast and make room for next diners. I like long, leisurely meals and not to be rushed.

PROS: Non-smoking atmosphere

If you've been in or lived in Cleveland any length of time, i'm sure that you've heard of Bearden's Restaurant. They have earned the reputation by word of mouth on having the best burger in Cleveland. Of course they sell more than burgers at this great non-smoking restaurant.

I had the their famouse Beardensburger which is a double burger they sell. It was very juicy and cooked to perfection. The side of deep fried mushrooms were to die for. Everything was hot, fresh and served very promptly. The restaurant is very clean, well lit, and has great service. The plus here is that they also went to non-smoking.

Being in the Army and a contract civilian worker for over 35 years, I have lived all over the world. Bearden's in Cleveland (there are a number of these in and around Cleveland) absolutely has the most delicious hamburgers of all time.
