This is the first time I write a review about a business service I used. This doesnt mean that I am always pleased with the services I have requested but my experience with Atlas Butler Heating & Cooling is by far the worst Ive had. I bought a club membership with Atlas Butler so they can come fix any issues promptly when needed and to get a discount on the labor and material. One of their technicians came on February to fix a minor problem with the heater, which he did, then recommended that I replace my water heater soon because the bottom is rusted and might cause leaks. He gave me a club member estimate around $1200 to replace my short 40 gallons water heater. Since it was not leaking at the time, I decided to wait on replacing it. 4 months later, the water heater started leaking, so I called Atlas Butler immediately and asked them to send someone to stop the leak and replace the water heater. I told them about the estimate that their technician gave me and that I was willing to pay that. They told me they would have the same technician call me to schedule the work. An hour later, the technician called me to let me know that his estimate back in February is no longer accurate because of some new government regulations and that I would have to pay a little over $2100 to get my water heater replaced. He added that the price is a club member price and that it would cost me even more than that if I werent a club member. I told the guy that I would have to think about it and that for now all I want is that they send someone to fix the leak problem. He refused to come or send someone because he said there was nothing he could do if the leak is from the bottom. I felt taken advantage of big time but I refused to give in to their price gouging and immediately called another company. They came the following day and did the work for $958. I called Atlas Butler customer service to cancel my membership and I was told that I would have to pay a fee of $145. Their membership discount is just a scam to make their customers feel that they are getting a good deal but in reality, they charge them way more than the market value. I do not recommend doing business with this company. They are dishonest and do not value their customers.

Atlas Butler provides quick and excellent customer service; HOWEVER, the quality of their products are TERRIBLE! I bought a brand new furnace from them in 2008 - today (2013), I had to replace the motor! A motor should last longer than 5 years and of course it broke down after my 5 year warranty expired. NEVER AGAIN, I will only buy furnaces and air conditioners from Sears. My Sears air conditioner is 16 years old NEVER HAD A PROBLEM!

Atlas Butler told me i needed 2 (two) new parts in order for my furnace to work and it would cost approx. $1200. I got a second estimate from another company and they told me i only need 1

i had them come out to fix my air conditioning, they were fast and nice but expensive. $89 for service call and $365 for a capacitor. part is less than $50. flat rate pricing is bad service. not recommended.

Complete rip-off. Overcharged for replacement parts that I now think were not needed; $800 for a $200 job. They wanted $10k for for a $4-$5k job. Just exposed on ABC 6 as a rip-off. Stay Away!!! - not worth the risk of getting scammed - other quality companies out there. I've used Favret and have been very happy with their service.

Big thanks to Atlas Butler! My daughter's birthday party was at my house last week and of course our AC goes out 2 days before it. I knew something would go wrong but i never thought it would be our AC! Well last week was very hot and AB said it would take 3-4 days before i could get a new system installed, I explained my situation and they called me back 30 minutes later and came out that night. There installers worked late into the night but got the job done. Thanks Guys!

The AB installation team were friendly, courteous and respectful to me. The also showed great respect to my home and yard while removing the old hvac system and installing the new system. I was already an Atlas Butler customer of the service department but this was my first install. I am very pleased. Our new system is soo quite and heats our home much more evenly. I have been recommending Atlas Butler to friends the past few years and everyone has felt the same way I do. \n\nPS. There are some comments on here talking about the yearly maintenace call. We have been having Atlas Butler look at our system every year the past few years and I have had nothing but good experiences with them. We had some issues with our system that I was not excited to pay for but the techs always explained and showed us exactly what was wrong and the best way to fix it.

I have no idea how Atlas Butler is still in business. We had a maintenance contract with them for a few years - they found something that needed replaced nearly every single time they made a maint visit, yet we never had issues with our systems before their visits. Really pretty naive on our part, but we replaced several parts and spent several hundred $$ if not a thousand $$. We began hearing about how Atlas Butler was so high-priced and that the contract was a scam. After checking out a few other companies, it is clear that their business model relies on naive/uninformed consumers. We began having actual issues so we called a few companies for estimates for new AC/Heating units. Atlas Butler provided an estimate of over $10K!! Three other companies offered similar products for around $4,500 - 6K. We chose another company that came highly recommended from a personal friend who had worked with them in the past. We chose CARE Heating/Cooling. Representatives from all of the other companies said that Atlas Butler counts on selling the consumer the first time, before they have a chance to consult with other companies. The maintenance plan appears to be well known for it's ""needed"" repairs at outlandish prices. We called and asked Atlas Butler to discontinue our maint contract and found out we have to pay it out until February because that contract was the reason we received all of their ""maintenance discounts"". Again, we really feel like we were taken advantage of by Atlas Butler, but we really have no one to blame but ourselves. We should have checked around first. I am urging anyone reading this to check out all of your options before blindly picking Atlas Butler. You will be glad you did.

There are only three possible reasons to use these people:\r\n1. You did not do your homework, or\r\n2. You don't care what you pay, or\r\n3. You are stupid.\r\n\r\nMy mom and I were guilty of #1 and when we compared we found that every charge of theirs was at least double reputable competitors even with ""favored status"" as monthly subscriber to their ""service.""\r\n\r\nSpeaking of which - they charge $20 a month to clean your furnace A/C twice a year (competitors run $79 specials) and rely on you to remember. My mom paid out $1000 over four years for two cleanings - expensive cleanings. Their manager admitted that most of their clients are elderly. AVOID!

DO NOT use Atlas Butler for AC/Furnace repair, service or installation. They charged us 495 dollars for a part that three other specialists have told us cost about 40 dollars (a Dual Capacitor). They were here for an hour and less than a week later, it has broken again. The cost to replace the whole thing was 3x what these other guys quoted us as well. \nI'm now hearing lots of poor reviews about Atlas and their extra high rates. Wish I had asked around first.

HORRIBILE RIP OFF... My wife had AtlasButler come out because our AC unit was not working... they charged her $369 for a ""dual capacitor"" and $369 for a ""contactor"" and a $89 diagnostic fee for a total of $827!! After seeing this bill I called to multiple other HVAC companies and was quoted $200 by Big Walnut Heating and Cooling and Sears Home Services. Both places told me that each of the parts that were replaced are less than $20 parts!! I called Atlas Butler and tried to negotiate my price down to see if they would meet me in the middle at $400 to avoid further hassle. They told me to take a hike and I could return the parts but I would have to take them out myself and bring them in. Big Walnut Heating and Cooling came out the same day, removed the Atlas Butler parts for me and replaced them for a total of $200!!! I dropped the Atlas Butler parts off and am waiting for my check!!!

In the Spring of 2010, I had scheduled a air conditioning cleaning and check out pursuant to my Service Contract. The technician was to arrive at 4pm, but I wasn't called until almost 5pm to say he was on his way, so I rescheduled for the next day at 4pm. The next day, again I wasn't called until almost 5pm to tell me he was on his way. Then when he arrives, he proceeds to tell me that the flue pipe to the furnace, which has nothing to do with the A/C operation, needed to be replaced because it was unsafe from a little rust on the edge of one the pipes, and it was only going to cost me $500. Wow, what deal for $20 worth of materials and only a half hour of work to complete. I said no thanks. The service technician that came for the furnace cleaning was great but informed me that the wrong aftermarket blower motor had been installed from a previous visit from Atlas Butler. He said that he couldn't replace it under warranty because it had been to long, even though according to his computer records it showed they had installed it. He admitted it was their fault, and said he sees it quite often. I told him I appreciated his honesty, but that I would pay someone else to put the right factory motor in for less than the $500 it was going to cost me from Atlas Butler. I'm finished with Atlas Butler!!!

We called Atlas Butler when our outside A/C unit died. They arrived promptly, when scheduled. The technician quickly diagnosed the problem, and had us up and running in short order. He also cleaned the unit and did a system check up. We were impressed with the service, and signed up for their service plan, which came in very handy the next time they came out, for a different issue. The techs are very personable, and we felt very comfortable having them in our home. Something you can't say about other companies. Highly recommended!

I have been using Atlas Butler for a couple of years now to service our primary home and rental property. Not only are we on a maintenance agreement for all of our property (luckily no major issues due to regular maintenance), but they also have done duct work cleaning as well. They have always been prompt, professional, courteous, and priced right. My mother has been using Atlas Butler for 40 years, if that says anything.

I have been doing business with Atlas for about ten years. I have always had a good experience with them. Their technicians are always curtious and efficient. I've never had an experience where they tried to pressure me into purchasing or doing something that was beyond the needed repair. I am very happy with them and their employees.

I have to say I have been so pleased with Atlas Butler. We signed up for the routine service plan and within the first week we had the furnace completely cleaned. The service tech was here for about 5 1/2 hours and even though our condo is only 6 years old it definately needed all the cleaning. The thing I liked is that he gave me tips on how to have my furnace run more efficiently and didn't try to sell me something. Generally that is what has always happened with other contractors. \r\n\r\nLast month we had our AC regular check up and had the same great service. I would highly recommend Atlas Butler.\r\n\r\nBy: Helen

When it came time to replace our AC unit we got half a dozen quotes, put them all into a spreadsheet to compare cost, warranty, if the installer would stay in business long enough to service it, etc. and AB came out on top. They didn't try to oversell us something we didn't need, they were candid about what we did and didn't need. They were then prompt and professional when installing the unit. They installed the new, hauled away the old and left my wife's flower beds (where the unit was installed) in better shape than before they arrived! They represent a good value for what they deliver.

Atlas Butler recently came out to our house to look at our air conditioner. They were great. I was not home at the time of the repair but if my wife is happy after a stranger is in our house then im happy. She was very happy about them being on time, how professional and courteous the technician was and how clean and careful the tech was while he was in our home. And our A/C was up and running great by the time he left. Just wanted to say thanks to Atlas Butler for reliving some stress in my life.

Atlas Butler comes out quicker than anybody in Columbus. When the technician arrives they will have a rehearsed script that they are all supposed to know verbatim. Once they diagnose your problem they will present a price guide that starts at $89 and goes up to $1500. However whatever you need repaired will most likely cost between $200-$850. Once they get you to authorize the repair they will try to sell you on a service contract and also tell you of at least one part that should also be replaced. They will explain the part and then scare you into buying it, because the fear of not having heating and cooling are fresh in your memory. After you're done buying the repair and the part that would most likely last another 5-10 years, and oh yeah the contract, you will probably owe them around $700 or so. Then somebody will be back in the fall to clean your furnace, scare the daylights out of you about heat exchanger cracks, carbon monoxide, hot surface ignitors or leaking blower motors(which always leak a little oil, even when they're new). While they're cleaning your furnace and building rapport with you, they will scare you about the air in you home and how spending $500 on a duct cleaning and $1500 on an electronic filter and fancy UV light bulb (scam) will cure asthma, allergies, colds and whatever else ales you. This company is very sales driven and cost double and sometimes triple what all of the competition cost. If you do call Atlas Butler, I hope that you are not an easy sell,or I hope that you get one of the few hones technicians that still work there.

Everything about this company stinks EXCEPT ITS FINE EMPLOYEES. All of the service men I have dealt with are professional, competent and nice. They just happen to work for a company headed by scum bags who prey on unsuspecting customers. I too got a new thermostat for a whopping $300+ dollars and I then foolishly signed up for another screw job when I signed up for their annual service contract. Their fine print puts the S in scum!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Don't ever call them.

I read the reveiw of the person needing a inducer motor, average cost of indurer motor is around 100 dollars, and as high as 350 for a Trane motor, They have a 350% mark up on ther parts, but if you sign a sevice agreement with them they will save you 10%, what a joke, now you mark up is 340% My sujestion is to always get 3 estimates. I know the above info because i am an ex employee [thank God]. They are the highest cost in town, and you don't get what you pay for, residental service is paid on commision, the more they charge the more they make. You my get something fixed you really didn't need. GET 3 BIDS

I had Atlas Butler out to our home for the first time yesterday. They were actually 10 minutes ahead of schedule and were very professional and courteous. The tech spent extra time with me showing what was wrong with my system. It ended up being a minor part and my system was back up and running. They did not try and sell me something I did not need. I was very impressed and will use them again. They are welcome in my home anytime. Thank You Atlas Butler.

Had them out to fix my air conditioner. the wife has breathing problems and must have air conditioning, The guy took off the cover and said he could see two bad parts (without testing). He said each part was $344,00 for a total of $788.00 but if I bought their service contract I could save $20.00. I paid the $768.45. Said he also gave me the senior citizen discount. I requested the old parts so I could price these parts on the internet. Turns out one part was $12.95 and the other was $38.95 for a total of $51.90.
That means the 30 min. labor cost was $714.10 or $1428.20 per hour. I think I got their senior citizen shaft instead of the discount. Wish I knew how to test those old parts.

I wanted to have my furnace cleaned one season and the charge was either $240 up front, in full, or $19.95 per month auto deducted for the ""Service Club Membership."" \n\nI did the membership because, as the woman on the phone advised, less of a hit on the monthly budget. Turns out the fine print on the contract (sent AFTER I signed up on the phone) AUTOMATICALLY renews every year unless you cancel BEFORE the contract period ends. But there's no official end date on the contract. \n\nMy fault for not reading the fine print but, still, a total scam. And my furnace was far less efficient after their cleaning.

We have had Atlas Butler out to our home several times over the years for our spring and fall checkups. The service tech is always very professional, and actually invited us to look inside our furnace with the camera he uses to check for cracks. He answered any questions we had and told us about the service club warranty. He never gave us any high-pressure sales pitch. If there was a problem with anything, he told us our options and let US make the decision. Atlas Butler has a good reputation in Columbus Ohio, and I would recommend them in a heartbeat to anyone. There are a lot of shady heating/cooling companies out there, but this company is definitely not one of them.

they came in with the intention of getting you sucked into their schemes. they tried to push an exstra filter change and said our office needed more updated fixtures otherwise we would be causing a fire hazard. basically they wont leave you alone untill you teither just get services done from them or just tell them flat out to leave you alone

This place likes to rely on the fact that at some point you are going to have a heat breakdown and it may be in the middle of the night. then they will come out and offer to fix the problem but really hard sell you on a "warranty" they have that basically allows them to gauge you for services you dont need. We had a really hard time getting rid of them and I feel sorry for the elderly that get sucked in by their tactics.
