You won t find a kinder, more helpful group of people than the Family Pet Clinic. The doctors are top notch and quick- no long waits in the friendly waiting room (which has a water cooler for the pets) - without being dismissive. They don t try to push you into pricey human-type procedures but can and will do them and well. I would drive an hour if I had to to keep them as my vet.

Super Wonderful!! I have been taking my dogs here for 4 years. Dr.Thompson is amazing!! We have done a spay and a neuter there. They have taken care of our pets when they are sick and well. He goes above and beyond with testing before your dog has a surgery to make sure it is healthy before he puts them to sleep! I drive 30 minutes to him because he was recommended by a friend and I never dread the drive because I know my doggies will be taken care of. Dr.Thompson you are the best!! F.Y.I. he also takes care of several K-9 dogs from several police departments!!

I took my rabbit to this clinic to be neutered. I chose the vet based on their history with small animals and the more reasonable price I was quoted on the phone. Upon arriving a few minutes before my appointment at 8am, 3 other clients arrived with their pets as well. We all walked up to the door with our pets to find it was still locked (the clinic opens at 8). We could see the receptionist walking in the waiting room, so obviously she could see us as well. She didn't unlock the door until exactly 8, or a few minutes after, even though we were all standing outside in the snow with our pets. I was very unimpressed; she could have let us sit quietly in the warm waiting room to wait. Also note that this clinic appears to be a converted house and is clearly a very small clinic.

About 20 minutes after 8:00, I was called into the examination room with my rabbit. I expected them to take the rabbit out of his carrier, weigh him, etc. because he had never been to the clinic. They did not even glance at the rabbit; the purpose of pulling me into the room was to make sure I signed the price estimate. To my surprise, the procedure was now $267 instead of the $178 I was quoted on the phone. Upon questioning the difference, I was told that the pre-anesthetic profile and antibiotics had not been included in the estimate. If they were part of the procedure, I'm not sure why this wasn't mentioned to me on the phone.

Because the clinic doesn??t carry rabbit supplies in-house, I was told to bring my rabbit??s food, water bottle, etc. After I signed my price estimate, I was told I was finished and could leave. No one questioned that I hadn??t given them the rabbit??s care necessities; I finally had to mention that I had brought all his supplies.

I picked up my rabbit the next day and they had filled his prescription incorrectly, giving him pills instead of liquid antibiotics.

Overall, I was very unimpressed, and will be paying the difference to switch my veterinarian for the rabbit's two week checkup.

Message from The Family Pet Clinic

We specialize in small animal medicine and take care of mostly dogs and cats. We also treat exotics. We are "You and your pet's extended family"

At our veterinary hospital, your pets are our family! The Family Pet Clinic was originally named Bartles Pet Clinic by its founder, Dr. Harry Bartles, in 1992. A year later, Dr. Terri Slezak joined the practice. In 2000, Dr. Bartles retired and sold the practice to Dr. Richard Thompson. Not long after, the clinic held a contest among its clients to choose a new name- and "The Family Pet Clinic" was born! In 2015, Dr. Eric Allie joined the practice and our team became complete. The Family Pet Clinic is a full service facility, offering wellness care, specialized plans for puppies and kittens, senior pet care, a wide variety of surgery, pet dentistry, internal medicine, digital radiography, dermatology, behavior counseling, specialized toxicology treatment, a full pharmacy, medical grooming, microchip placement, and daytime emergency medicine. The clinic has an extensive state-of-the-art diagnostic laboratory that was upgraded in 2013. We are proud to offer medical care for the police canines of Garfield Heights and many surrounding law enforcement agencies, with over fifty dogs from 19 departments served by our doctors and staff. Since January 2000, the number of pets cared for by The Family Pet clinic has quadrupled. The pet owners of the Garfield Heights area deserve the highest quality care for their furry friends, and we are proud to serve them. In addition to treating dogs and cats, The Family Pet Clinic also provides medical care for exotic pets, including ferrets, rabbits, guinea pigs, hamsters, gerbils, rats, mice, hedgehogs, and non-venemous reptiles.
