I got one of my cats at the APL almost one year ago exactly. He was a stray, trap-neuter-release cat that was recaptured because people were trying to poison him. The APL took him in, checked him for all the standard cat illness (FIV/AIDs, etc) and got him up-to-date on shots. He was also sick and recovering from an upper respiratory infection when I got him. The APL sent me home with the rest of his antibiotics course so he would be able to get healthy. The APL really cares about pets. The facility is wonderful (large, very bright and clean) and the staff were very nice. Many animals are kept in the animal rooms with other cats, allowing them to interact and play. I adopted my cat on half-price adoption day. If I had been thinking about it, I would have told them to charge me the full adoption fee and just count the rest as a donation because I think that highly of them. They are doing a great service to the community, with most of the animals being strays, but perfectly lovable, adoptable animals. I would 100% adopt another pet from the APL. I avoid pet stores like the plague because I know they get many of their animals from puppy/cat mills where the conditions downright suck and the animals often aren't properly socialized. You won't have this at the APL because they screen all potential pets for aggressive behavior and know that an aggressive animal will probably end up at the shelter again. Yep, we will be back when we are looking to add another cat to the family.
Adopting at the Animal Protective League was a very positive experience. The facility is clean and bright. The staff is knowledgeable and care greatly for the well-being of their animals. Our dog came with her shots and was spayed. They also offer dog training classes for current owners and Dogs 101 for new owners. I would highly recommend this business to anyone looking to adopt an animal.
I love the APL; I think they provide an amazing service. I got both of my kittens here because they're already screened for feline leukemia, worms, etc. and are neutered, which ensures that you'll get a healthy pet. They have hundreds of pets to choose from and sometimes the decision can be hard! The APL, which is an independent, nonprofit league, is cheaper than buying from an overpriced pet store. It's clean and the animals are well-cared-for. I highly recommend the APL for selecting a pet.
I love the APL. It's brightly-lit and not depressing like you might expect a shelter to be, and there's a wide variety of cats and dogs (different ages, sizes, colors, personalities) to check out and find one that suits you.
There is a small fee that covers their spading/neutering, medical check (for cancer), shots, etc., but it's completely worth it because you know your new pet is healthy. Pet stores in malls can't be trusted to have done this thorough examination - I've had friends purchase from pet stores and have had their pet die within a month due to inadequate check-ups. This prevents a lot of heartbreak.
It's a nice place, and if you're looking for a new pet, definitely check out the APL for a large selection of healthy pets.
Great facility to find your new pet at. They have a big adoption room for the cats, and they are housed together in a big room rather than all of them being in cages. They seem a lot happier that way. The two cats that I adopted from there are great and I'm very grateful that the APL is there to provide adoption services.
Help take care of those unwanted pets that people drop off on the street corners by making a monetary donation, no matter how big or small it will help. The staff here is so loving and caring with the animals. They make sure the animal is vaccinated and spade/neutered before you take it. Once you're approved for a pet adoption you will happy that you were.
With all of the pets that are 'thrown' out by people, there is no reason to buy a dog from anywhere else. If you go in this clean, well kept kennel, you'll find so many sad eyed dogs etc, that you will want to take each and everyone of them home. Please resuce a pet today and give them the loving home they so deserve.
PROS: Rescue Pets - Adoptions - Clean
This is the place to rescue an animal or donate any spare money. The people here love those animals and it shows in their actions. We rescued an older dog and very happy with our selection. We had to be approved first. They care about who adopts their animals, that's important to me. They also make sure the animal is vaccinated and spade/neutered. What more can you ask for.
