My family and I are flying from London to America in July and staying in Sandusky for ten days, I have just been reading reviews on the site and am a little worried regarding one comment about the care hounded out to tourist, though most of the comments are in favour of 'The Lunch Box' We shall visit it and I will add my comments when I return home

I really like The Lunch Box for its reasonable prices and great tasting food. You just walk in and sit down to be waited on. The many specials are delivered to the table rather quickly and you don't go away hungry. A daily soup is offered plus chicken paprikash, chili and beef vegetable everyday. I had some homemade pie that you know is homemade and tasted like grandmas. I'll be back.

Let me explain to everyone the experience that my friends and myself had at the lunch box. Before I go into the story I would like to explain that all of us have or had served tables before.

We were visiting my friends who live in Sandusky and we decided to go to the little diner downtown for breakfast. On Saturday we had a wonderful server and you all should request. Unfortunately I do not remember her name but she was the only black woman who worked that. She was caring, worked her butt off and very friendly.

Since our first experience was great, we decided to go back.

There were 6 of us at a table and and we ordered our beverages and food. Well the server came back to the table and told us that they were out of soda glasses and that we needed to wait for them to be cleaned. We understood and then ordered our food.

When the food finally arrived we still had not received out beverages and she auctioned off the food. I am sorry but I find that auctioning off food is one of the worse things that a server could do.

About 10 minutes into eating our food and about 25 minutes of no water left in our glasses, we finally got our sodas. the funny thing is that the pop glasses were the same as the water glasses. We sat there and watched her give glasses to every table, at least 40 minutes before we received in the same glasses that the water was in. No one was helping our server out until the magical pop or wait I mean water glasses came out.

After we finished eating, we waited about another 15 minutes until we got frustrated with not having our checks and our dishes still being on the table. We went and asked the lady behind the counter for our check and waited another ten minutes.

I believe that you tip for your service. If a server is busy, other workers need to step up and help. The only time our server had help was half way through our meal.

a couple of us waited outside as the people with credit cards cashed out.

To my surprise, my friends came out and explained to us what had happened while they were inside.

After a horrible experience in the diner, my friend gave a ten percent tip on her meal. The lady behind the counter was upset that she was paying half the check with cash and the other with card. Or receipts were wrong and we did not want to wait another 10 minutes to get them right. After walking our, the lady behind the counter started complaining to the last of us departing, she did not realize that she was part of our table.

She said how she could not believe that the person before her only tipped a dollar. According to her, the reason that the server is missing teeth is because she can not afford health insurance and that we were all college kids who needed to get out of town. The part that she forgot that even though some of us were in college, we were paying customers. The perception that I received was that tourist were not welcome in their establishment.

I decided to go talk to a manager because no one should ever complain about tips to customers. Some of us are in college but most of us are very successful professionals. In no way should a restaurant that profits off of tourist be bashing them.

I saw a server outside and asked him if I could see the manager. He asked me what was wrong and as I told him his face was in shock. He asked who it was that said everything and then he said that the manager was in the kitchen. I walked inside and when I was waiting, the lady behind the counter started with an attitude. I explained to her that I was just waiting for the manager and did not walk to talk to her. She said that I was a college kid, should not be there and that she was the manager.

If she is indeed the manager the owner should be ashamed.

I told the lady behind the counter that she had no right to complain about a tip and how our service was horrible so she deserved it. She asked what I knew about service because I was just a college kid so I told her that most of us were actually out of college and have served before. Most of us are in our middle to later 20s and you should always respect your customers, no matter where they come from or how old they are.

After she started cursing at me and raising her voice, she explained that I needed to leave the restaurant or she would call the cops. I walked out the door and explained said that she would regret being rude to customers.

The food there was poor at best. I ordered a broccoli and cheese soup that was very bland and my friends were not happy with their meals either.

The moral of this post is: If you want a restaurant that has poor food, horrible service and a manager that hates tourist.. then this is the establishment for you.

We had been given a ten dollar gift certificate. Had to be in the area so went there for lunch. No regrets. Just may make a trip with no reason other than to go back there again. My husband had the meat loaf dinner, I had BB Pork and each had coffee. With the coupon we paid not quite five bucks. That is a deal. The place was busy and the service was good.

I had to go to Sandusky one time for a business meeting. For lunch, I walked over to the Lunch Box since it was close by. I tried to Taco Salad - I must say it was one of the best I had ever had. I wish they were in Norwalk - I would eat lunch there more often. The waitress was friendly and took care of my needs. I would go there again.

This is a plain simple restaurant. Great food, busy during lunch time. This is a restaurant where you don't need to be dressed up. You'll see businessmen and women in suits and also the construction workers.
