I'm fairly new to Columbus and was looking for a good barber when I came across the Mug N Brush. They are great people and give quality haircuts at a good price. All the barbers are friendly and nice and make it enjoyable to get a good haircut.

I found Jim after a two year search for a good barber in Columbus. I've been very pleased with the service provided every time I have left the Mug N Brush over a 3 year period.

Unlike most of the hair salons and barbor shops i've been to this one has a unique personality. Jim the barber is cool.

I came to see Jim on a recommendation from a friend. I was apprehensive about trying someone new but I decided to give him a shot and boy I'm glad I did. I'll definitely be going back. Jim is a good guy. He's friendly, makes good conversation and understood exactly what I wanted. Thanks!

The Mug n Brush Barber Shop is a great place for guys and girls to get fabulous style in a laid-back, comfortable atmosphere.

Not only does Jim have a ton of experience on top of natural talent, but his willingness to really listen to what you want and make suggestions ensures you get the style you are looking for. It's just one more thing that helps set him apart from all of the other stylists out there.

Jim is so patient with my children! My 3 year old son just loves to get his hair cut by Mr. Jim & play with the toys in his toy bucket! But not only is he great with boy cuts, he does my daughter's hair as well.

One thing is certain - Jim has no clue what he is doing. Just got my hair cut (or shall I say butchered) there last week. Jim took zero time to listen to my preferences; the rushed job came out miserable at best. Furthermore, I am almost certain that all those good reviews are fakes. Do not reccomend!

Being a girl, I never thought that I would even consider going to a barber, but I have been going to the Mug N Brush for the past couple of years now. Not only does it have a great atmosphere, but Jim is amazing! He does exactly what I'm looking for each time I visit. Thanks Jim!

Are you kidding me? Ive been to this Jim guy and hes hands down the worst haircutter Ive ever had. Ive lived in Cleveland, Tel Aviv, Tucson and Columbus and have experienced many barbers and stylists in my day. Jim ranks dead last. I was ashamed to walk around with the haircut he gave me. I had to pay someone else to clean up his mess the next day. I am not kidding. He is that bad. He cut my har completely unproportional. Man has no clue what hes doing...at all.

I never like talking to barbers until I started going to the Mug & Brush. All that forced conversation about football or the weather or the wife and kids I don't have reminded me of why I don't like seeing relatives at holidays. Cut my hair. Don't get personal. But Jim is different from most barbers in the same way Columbus is different from most cities. Neither asks too much of you. If you want a quick, impersonal, professional haircut, you can get it here. If you want a haircut, a hot-towel shave, and long, easy conversation about anything that's on your mind, you can get that here, too. Jim is an artisan barber, and not just in the sense of craft. He has the memory of a gravestone. I just came back to visit Columbus and he asked me about things I'd told him more that a year ago. He can network his customers without making it feel like business. Whatever you're doing, Jim knows somebody who can help you do it better. Formally educated in religious studies, he can speak about football as easily as economics and politics and the mechanics of a good shave. He's what a good bartender used to be. Not pushy. Sympathetic. Able to give you whatever you want. Able to be whatever you need him to be. Why Columbus is the perfect place for Jim: despite its reputation as Test Market America, this city appreciates people who do things well, hence the independent bakeries and boutiques and art galleries and artists and writers and poets and musicians and teachers and bar owners and restaurateurs and tattoo artists and tobacconists and cheese mongers and organic landscape architects, all of whom take what they do very seriously without being too serious about themselves. These are highly skilled and educated people who offer the best of what they do, but manage to make it feel like they're just a part of your neighborhood. And they are. Go out and meet them. Like I was, you'll be surprised by how easy they are to talk to, even if you're not in the mood to talk to anybody.

Pros: This is a hub of information and social networking. Excellent service, excellent quality, excellent prices, easy and friendly schedule arrangement, neighborhood feeling.

Cons: Jim doesn't have an army of identical twins to establish franchises around the country

.

After going to Jim for one year, I can without a doubt promise that I will never get my haircut at another shop so long as I live in Columbus. Great cuts, great price, great atmosphere, great barber! He recently hired a new barber who does great work as well. Jim and John create an atmosphere much like I imagine the barber shops of the 40's and 50's. After you finish with your haircut, you want to stick around to see what craziness the two of the get into next! It's great to get a free comedy show from the two of them for just the price of my haircut. Whether you get your cut from Jim or John, both provide you with top notch service and an experience you will not soon forget!

I've been going to Jim for almost 7 years, basically the entire time I've lived in Columbus. Jim is a genuine, down to earth, funny, cool guy who I consider a friend. Haircuts are always money. The shop is cool and has a relaxed, hip atmosphere. You can rock out to NPR and participate in the neighborhood watch program while getting your hair cut. I highly recommend.

First things first. Jim?s haircuts are the best I?ve ever had. I have a weird cowlick thing and, er, well, a slightly receding hairline, and um, some thinning in the back and you would never know it once Jim?s done with me.

I was a strip-mall chain, walk-in haircut kind of guy. $9.99 for a cut with no commitments and no required repartee with the person cutting was fine by me. I finally got my comeuppance a couple years ago when the strip-mall cut was so obviously uneven that I had to clipper all my hair off once I got home and had a look in the mirror. I was seriously not amused. a friend recommended Jim at Mug and Brush.

The shop definitely takes its cue from Jim, the owner, who is so cool he?s post-modern cool. The physical set-up is straight out of the 1950s (storefront, real barber chairs, lots of magazines and newspapers), but the decor and a vibe are classically modern (funky wall treatment, retro hairdryer chair in the corner (that works), local band leaflets by the door). I feel cooler than I am (or ever have been) just walking in the door.

Just for some perspective, I went to an ivy college and I?m a practicing attorney. I lived in New York City for a long time, and I?ve been around. I?m getting--now in my mid-thirties--to a point where I?d be willing to shell out a fairly considerable sum to look my best. In fact, despite my penchant for strip-mall cuts, I?ve had haircuts costing in the three figures. It's wild that the best haircut ( & <$20) is on High Street in Columbus. I understand the people who fly in for Jim's cut.

I?m not a big spiritual, enlightenment-seeking kind of guy, but going to Mug and Brush honestly just makes me feel good. It?s calming. The fact that I walk out with an amazing haircut is (almost) secondary.

I won?t gush about the place any more, but if you want a great cut by a good guy without the whole thing being way too over-produced, you might want to do yourself a favor and check out Mug and Brush

Found Mug & Brush on the web while traveling to Columbus on business. Not many folks would travel from the ski slopes to HIgh Street for a haircut unless it was a great experience. Jim is extremely personable and will always find time to work the travelers into the appointment book. He is sincere and enjoys conversation while providing great service. A true barber! You can't go wrong here!

I have went to the same barber for the last 20 years. I wanted to find a new place to get my hair cut and someone told me about The Mug & Brush. I tried Jim out and he does a great job! He takes his time and makes sure you are happy with your hair cut before you leave. With my travel schedule it is important to be flexible and Jim moves things around to fit my schedule.

is awesome , good ambiance, Jim takes his time on your hair, more like an artist, you can tell he cares about doing a good job, always a pleasant guy, usually pretty good about squeezing me in his tight schedule, avoid those crappy mall haircuts, can talk to you just about anything

I have been going to Mug and Brush since it opened. It isnt in my neighborhood and I pass 100 other places to get a haircut to go there. It is well worth the drive.
Jim does a great job and I always leave with a great cut.
If I got my haircut in a private plan on the tarmack of the airport I would totally pay Jim $400 for the haircut, but lucky for me his prices arent that high! Yet, totally worth it!

After giving up on my previous barber, and a suggestion from a friend, I decided to give M&B a try. Jim was amazingly friendly and treated me as if I'd been a regular customer for years. Being utterly clueless about my hair, I gave him a rather vague description of something that might be similar to a haircut, and left the rest to him. He was really great about understanding what I wanted, functionally, as well as aesthetically. I left feeling like I had gotten an amazing cut for an amazing price, and met a really cool guy in the process. I'm definitely going back.

When I moved to Columbus, I started going to Mug & Brush because it was in my neighborhood. I was lucky to have found the place. For the last three years, I've received great cuts at a fair price. Jim's a hard-working, interesting, and fun (yet professional) guy. If you're looking for a shop that's laid-back and gives consistently good cuts, you can't beat M&B.

Although I have nothing on the northcampusallstar, Mug & Brush puts fear into my keratin strands. They know their days are shortened. As the metal spheres shoot across my fat membranes producing my lame thoughts, I am glad to hear Jim's professional scissor clips. I will tell you a little known secret about M&B. Jim also offers a metaphysical haircut, at competitive prices! I think its time for me to get one of those!

If you are tired of careless hair-dummies, if you like great hair cuttage at a fair price, bring your behind to Mug and Brush.

Getting my hair cut at the Mug n Brush is an existentially liberating experience. I often leave with a clear purpose, an enlightened understanding of who I am, what I am, and where I'm going in this life. Maybe it's the deft, smooth, and calculated precision of Jim's deconstructionist styling technique. It might be the cultural revolution within: the general feeling that in this small shop is the beginning of Brave New Hair, the vanguard of Revolution in Style.

I usually wander into the Mug n Brush aimlessly, clueless as to my "style", wondering where I fit in, just another pebble on the beach....After my blubbering, rambling diatribe explaining why The Mullet is the only style that makes any clear conceptual sense, Jim, the steadfast owner of M & B, nods quietly, recognizing and understanding the Moral Dilemna that has crossed his threshold so many times before......He carefully weaves in and out of the icy territorial waters that plague a metrosexual man's hair identity crisis. I plop down in the comfortable Chair of Transformation and, like a good bartender with a stiff drink, the Captain of the Coif listens to my sad and sordid tale......

After a few minutes of banter, Jim literally cuts to the chase, having sized up my type, my character, my condition. With careful reassurances, he quietly goes about his craft, turning this cave-dweller into a Modern Man. With thoughtful and polite conversation, I'm lulled into complacency as The Master decides my Fate. In what seems like five minutes, the chair whips around as I face myself in the mirror. With heavenly-type harpsichord music as my soundtrack, I realize again that the Mug n Brush ROCKS. It's a place where, with only a small amount of direction, I can let someone with superior strength, knowledge, skill and understanding create a piece of art just for me. Some call it a hair cut; I call it a life-changing experience. With only a small dent in my wallet, I'm on my way again, Rockin' In The Free World..

I've been getting my hair cut with Jim at the Mug N Brush for two years now. I used to absolutely hate hair cuts, but Jim's cut my hair perfect every time and I no longer have to worry about getting a bad cut. In addtion to great hair cuts, Mug N Brush has low prices and a great atmosphere. Jim's done an amazing job remodeling the shop and hiring high caliber employees. You can't go wrong with the Mug N Brush. It truly is the best barber shop in the known universe (or at the very least the best in Columbus).

Jim has been cutting my hair since I moved to Columbus over 5 years ago. I told him how to cut it the very first time and i have not had to tell him since. He consistantly does a great job and that is the most important thing for me. He is very flexible with his schedule and always seems to find time to squeeze customers in. I live and work on opposite sides of town and continue to make the commute because of his premium customer service. Lastly, you can't beat the price!

Long history of haircuts from Jim. Takes his time and does a very good job. I couldn't exist without one of his infamous haircuts. He is working very hard to get the shop the way he wants it to be now that he owns it. The best thing he has done was to buy the shop. It is becoming a neat shop to go to with a casual and fun atmosphere. A very good value for the money.

Pros: Definite Thumbs up

.

Been going there for many years. Always a good haircut, quick, friendly old-time barbershop.

No frills, no fancy bs, no hard sell. Go there, you will be pleased.

After having followed my barber Jim from each salon shop he has worked at for over ten yrs. I was so happy when he decided to once again to own his own shop. A shop where Jim's energy. personality and care of customer service could go unchallenged by those others who quite frankly just don't give a dam.
Jim is a Master Barber who is passionate about what he does and a wise sage who can have a meaningful conversation with the U.P.S. man to the Dalai Lama as they sit in his chair.
Enjoy your time at his shop, Bryan McCarty.

Although I am in the minority (a woman), I would highly recommend Jim's barber shop to all women. Why, you ask? Because there's alot of men there! No, truthfully, I am extremely particular about my hair. I get the best cut of my life, as well as color. I previously had never had a barber cut my hair, but now I realize that barbers are the best trained to cut hair. And Jim is the best.....

I've been going to Jim for about 5 years now, and I am always happy with my haircut. Whenever I'm not sure what I want, he comes up with ideas that always work. The prices are great too. But it's Jim's warm and friendly personality that keeps me coming back.

Pros: Excellent friendly service and great prices

Cons: None that I can think of.

.

First, and most important, Jim can cut hair very well. Aside from that, he's got a great shop, is friendly, and is very knowledgable about music and local happenings without being pretentious. Oh, and his charges are very reasonable, one might say cheap except for the value you get.
Check it out and say Eric sent you... (that doesn't get you a discount, I already said his prices are great, ya cheap fool).

I'm extremely picky about my hair and have "broken-up" with many stylists in Columbus because the first cut is cool and every subsequent cut was a journey downhill. Jim has been cutting my hair for around a year now. He's wonderful; his technique is consistent. He always gives me great cuts with an edge...he gets that I don't want to look like a soccer mom. The shop is definitely part of the experience, too - it's fun to get there a little early just to enjoy the atmosphere.

I've been coming the Mug-N-Brush for over a year now. Jim is one of the best barbers I have had since I moved to columbus in 1999. He's got a great personality and he's a lot fun to talk to. He's been in the business for quite awhile and always does a great job with my cuts. The shop itself is getting a few updates added. Once it is complete its going to look great. Thanks a lot Jim!

Jim has been cutting my hair for almost 6 years and I wouldn't go anywhere else. I left town for a year and always tried to plan my haircuts around return trips to Columbus. The atmosphere of Jim's shop is relaxed and comfortable, the conversation is always great. Every one of my cuts have been scheduled that day with a phone call asking when I can get squeezed in....never a problem. If you're looking for an afternoon of pampering, primping and perrier this isnt the place for you, but if youre looking for a great cut at a great price by one hell of a guy....look no further!

Jim is a fabulous barber. He's interesting to talk to. His prices are very reasonable. Only a fool would go elsewhere for a haircut.

This is the place. Very cool antique barber chairs, great service, great conversation, great music, and a cast of eccentric characters who wander in off of high street just to say hello. Tip Jim & Adam heavily. Bring an inappropriate joke.

I have been getting my haircut by Jim (owner) every two weeks since June 2002, and I have never had a bad haircut or disappointing experience. The prices are right, the hours work with most schedules and the staff is great. You would be crazy to go anywhere else! Mug & Brush is the best shop in town!

Pros: THUMBS UP FOR SURE A GREAT PL TO GO

Cons: THE PARKING COULD BE A LITTLE BETTER BUT, NOT BAD

Jim is a great barber. Good to talk to, always friendly, and easy to work with. I just got a cut yesterday, the prices are great, and the atmosphere is always fun, different people coming in, things happening on High Street. I have heard some great music there, always something cool playing. I have been going for a few years, starting back when I worked downtown, and he was at the old shop. It is a little out of my way now, but well worth it, and not just for the haircut. Jim and Adam are a lot of fun, and worth the drive from wherever you live.

Jim Morris has been cutting my hair for 20 years. I have followed him to every shop in which he has worked. He has given both of my children their first haircuts and is the only barber that can cut my eldest son's incredibly challenging hair. I would highly recommend Jim and the Mug 'n Brush to anyone of any age or hair style. If you want a truly excellent cut, go to Jim.

I would feel totally guilty if I ever even thought about getting my hair cut anywhere but Mug & Brush. I would even make sure to time visits home with when I needed a haircut if my job took me away from Columbus. The owner of the shop Jim is a stylist, an artist, a partner in crime, a true appreciator of the female form, a guru, and the best damn barber in Columbus. Forget about those euro-trash day spas with their fake marble, attempt to upsale a compost facial, and awful new age tone killers they call mood music. If you want a haircut, a style, a color, an honest opinion about life, then go to Mug & Brush now. Right now. What is stopping you?

Now I went into Jims shop just to look around. I hadnt had a haircut in like 17-18 years...it was a religious thing. Anyway, I go in and ask him what if I wanted to get a haircut, how would you do it, because guys, I had A LOT OF HAIR. Trust me, I had thick curly hair all the way up to my waist. Anyway, Jim was really nice and he totally understood my situation cuz cuttin my hair was a big deal for me. So I make an appointment fot the next day and Jim was just awesome. Poor guy mustve spent like more than an hour cuttin through the Jungle on my head lol but it turned out great. Nice music, Good customer service, Value for money and great customer interaction. Id recommend Mug and Brush to everyone....

I have had severle haircuts here that were decent. But my last one was terrible. The sides were uneven and Jim iqnored my requests to cut some off the top. He seemed distracted and in a hurry to get me out the door.

I have been getting haircuts and color from Jim for over 6 years. he is receptive and easy to talk to. always helpful with suggestions and new ideas. i have never left his shop without feeling happy and excited about my mop. i'm the type of girl who wants to get a haircut and maybe some color and that's it! i don't like the stale feeling of a salon. at mug and brush you feel like you are visiting your friends house, where you can just relax and have a very pleasent experience.
