To be truthful its been several years since I was here, and I think they were undergoing renovation.
I thought it was nice for a town the size of Akron. I always believe in supporting the ARTS. It didn't
leave a bad impression.
I seem to recall a leaning towards modern art, though that could have been a short term exhibit.
Its worth checking out.

Pros: Nice for Akron.
Cons: Could be bigger and easier to find and park in.
Destined to become an architecture fan's must-see when the new facility by Austrian architects Coop Himmelblau opens in July. Worldwide press already!
PROS: Great modern art collection, amazing building, super programs
CONS: Closed to the public until July 2007.
This is a great little place for everyone! While it is not very big, there is alot of diverse art, something for everyone. The exhibits are well lighted. The staff was very welcoming and friendly and best of all admission is free!
PROS: Wonderfully great place and free admission!
CONS:

The Akron Art Museum is not very large, compared to most other art museums of its type, but it is still definitely sizeable enough to provide a wonderful art experience. They always have many different kinds of paintings, sculptures, and other art media on display, and there is usually a special display as well that is changed every now and then. This is the perfect museum to introduce art to young people because there is so much of interest and it is fun to explore the exhibits. Plus, this museum isn't too large as to be overwhelming to a child. The staff is quite knowledgable about the art they display and they are always happy to help.

This museum is VERY small compared the ones in the surrounding area, like Cleveland and Pittsburg but they do have a decent collection. The permanent collection isn't bad but they have GREAT exhibits and sometimes feature local artists in thier smaller galleries which is great. They also have some great outdoor sculpture.

This is a fascinating place where the modern art of the city of Akron is displayed. The museum is being expanded. The new building will be built adjacent to the existing museum, a post office building dating back to 1899, effectively
