My wife and I try to eat at different restaurants around Cleveland each month. Some are GREAT and some - well - not so great. The White Oaks is a restaurant that has a history and a location that is serene. We LOVED the hearth baked bread (you can actually see them pulling it out of the oven) and had two baskets brought to our table it was so good! The steak and salad was delicious, though I would have liked a bit more salad on my plate. We stayed over after dinner in the lounge and thoroughly enjoyed the cocktails and conversation by the fireplace while looking up and seeing the belly's of ducks swimming! Great conversation piece. Bottom line - when we go back to the White Oaks we go for the ambiance and warmth while enjoying the "Speak-easy" history of the whole place. On a scale from 1-10 I rate it over all of the franchise restaurants at Crocker Park as well as most of the other restaurant choices in the vicinity - 8!

The food was good but not spectacular. We were in the mood for a very serene experience and that is what we got. We were lucky enough to sit by the windows and enjoy the beautiful view.

Historic White Oaks opened in 1928. It's name came from the many white oak trees surrounding the restaurant. Great steaks and seafood. Their desserts are to die for. You can sit by one of the six fireplaces or near a window overlooking a lighted ravine with many oak trees. Elegant atmosphere. Great service. Valet parking. Reservations are a must.

For years I'd heard so much about The White Oaks that I was expecting something fabulous; I was completely underwhelmed. I think that this restaurant is sustained on their past reputation and the old-timers who still go to it. We went with another another couple and we were both using coupons from The Entertainment Book; as soon as we mentioned this to the waitress her attitude totally changed towards us. We were made to feel like second-class citizens. If they don't want people using the coupon, why do they put it in the book? Anyways, even the food was not that impressive. Both mine and my husband's steaks were very underdone; he was given attitude when he sent his back to cook longer. It's ashame that they don't live up to the reputation that they once had.

Another couple and ourselves, decided to celebrate our 20 something anniversaries at White Oaks. Our previous experiences had been very good, however on Sun. Mar.23, it was pathetic. The salads were wilty, duck greasy, dry, and overpowered with sauce. Beef Wellington was served well done and not rare as requested. A corrected Wellingto was served 30 minutes after the rest of the party had finished eating. The rice was salty, overcooked, and nasty looking. Veggies were hard and over seasoned. Scampies and venison were acceptable. The bus boy did a good job of filling glasses and removing dishes however the waitress never returned to the table until she presented the check. What a disappointment this special event turned out to be.

For my money, White Oaks is the best restaurant in the Cleveland area. Outstanding food and a wonderful atmosphere, it just doesn't get any better than this! I would highly recommend the Filet Mignon or Prime Rib, but many love the Rabbit Medallions or Venison!

I can't say enough about locally-owned dining like this. I never had duck before- Holy cow what a dinner. And the atmosphere is remarkable. Awesome date place for 1 on 1. You WON'T be disappointed!

Nestled amoung a forest like setting, the White Oaks offers a casual dining experience, without the formality of city dining. Yet the cuisine rivals the best of fare one kind normally only find in the city, with out the city price tag.

You won't receive it here! After viewing the White Oak website, we made a 6:30 reservation for a non-smoking window seat. We were told this would not be a problem. When we arrived, no window seating was available. We were seated in a booth --in the smoking area. When we said we preferred non-smoking we were moved to a very small table in a dark corner.

Althought the food was good, the atmosphere was unpleasant, and the service was slow. When we requested coffee and a dessert menu, we were told by one waiter that providing dessert menus was not his job.

We are sorry that we inconvenienced the White Oaks by having dinner there. We certainly won't bother them again.

Pros: Good Parking, Out of the way, Not a 'chain'

Cons: Unfriendly, Old and Dusty

the WHITE OAKS is tasteful with a romantic flavor....how can one not enjoy the moment when you are surrounded by the lush greenery outside, enhanced by large windows allowing the mistique of the moment to become entwined with the delicious flavors and aromas of the suculent meal! Magnificent!

Historic White Oaks opened in 1928 and has been serving Cleveland's finest ever since. Beautiful white building and grounds. You can sit by one of their six fireplaces or near a window overlooking a lighted ravine with white oak trees.
