We bought our Bichon Freize there and a year later went back for a Maltese to keep our Bichon company. They are both wonderful dogs and have never had any health issues. They are part of our family and we will go back to Garwicks!

Yes Garwick is a breeder. But a puppy mill breeder. Back in 2008, my Mother saw their ad in the newspaper. I never heard of the business and took her over to look at a certain dog. When we drove in to the property many larger dogs were caged outside in small pens without water and food. They ??said? they had just fed and watered the dogs but take the containers out of the cage after they are finished. One poor dog was running in circles and never stopped. We were there for about hr.
I couldn??t believe the smell as we walked in. They wouldn??t let us go back to where the dogs were caged but brought the dog out to the waiting room. The dog??s coat was batted and smelled of pee. Mom fell in love with the dog but I told her not to get the dog. They were a puppy mill and we had no idea what health issues the dog could have since they had been trying to use it for breeding.
After dropping Mom off at home I visited local vet clinics to get ??their? opinion of Garwick??s. No one would come out and said what they really thought of the business, but the ??roll of eyes? speaks volumes.
My Mom ignored my wishes and had my Dad take her back to Garwick??s. They paid over $600., for a 2-3 yr old female. Dad said that he bought the dog because he felt sorry for it and would have purchased another if he had the money. I explained that he wasn??t ??saving? a dog but allowing more room for another dog to take her place.
After getting the dog home and cleaned ?? she was a friendly, attention starved Baby. But we soon learned she had a heart murmur along with fleas. A year and later she suddenly died. She was happy one minute and the next fell over and had trouble breathing. She died on the way to the vets.
This place needs to be shut down!

Actually Pet Smart does not sell cats or dogs. They work with the SPCA to adopt cats out. Garwicks and breeders like them are responsible for puppy mills, they mass produce puppies for no other reason than greed. As for the people that buy from them and other pet stores they are also to blame. People know they come from puppy mills, they just don't care and so dogs and cats die everyday at the shelters. Also it's a lie to claim getting a dog from a breeder guarantees a good dog. You cannot guarantee a dogs behavior and temperament when it's a puppy. Also, search AKC and look at some of the horrifying pictures. AKC is nothing more than a business out for money.

First off, I chose the satisfactory rating because I have never purchased an animal from Garwicks, but I just had to comment in response to anonymous. Any pet "store" either large or small is technically getting their puppies from puppy mills. Whether on the premises or not is almost a moot point. Almost all pet stores can tell you that they do not purchase from puppy mills and all would technically be telling you the truth. They buy from "brokers", guess where the broker buys from......puppy mills. I wonder if anonymous has taken tours of local "dog pounds", the dogs there also bark spastically and spin in relentless circles. I think you are attacking the problem from the wrong standpoint. Maybe if more people stopped demanding their "glamorous" breeds(i.e. chiwienies, labradoodle) and adopted more from their local animal shelters you wouldn't have puppy mills churning out "full blooded" animals because that is what everyone wants. If you are going to label a small, local pet store as a puppy mill then do the same with those that keep puppy mills in business(the brokers, the large pet shop chains, and the people demanding their "full blooded glamorous mixes". I also neither work for Garwick's or are related to them. I wouldn't know a Garwick if one walked up to me.......I have never even dealt with them, but I think in order to call them a puppy mill, you have to place the rest of the blame also. Go somewhere and complain about PetSmart, Pet Supplies Plus, all of the large chains that will vehemently deny that they buy from puppy mills. What they should be telling you is that they buy INDIRECTLY from puppy mills so that they can tell you they do not buy from puppy mills. Think about this when you decide you have to have that "full blooded glam" pet................

We purchased our dog from them almost two years ago. We were pleased with the service, price and our dog is a very good dog. We would buy there again.

We bought a puppy from Garwicks in January of this year. The place was clean, all animals seemed to be well cared for and the puppy we bought came with her shot records and family tree and register. Today our little Mini is a lovable, spoiled roughten part of our family. We have sent others to Garwicks to look for a pet. We do not work at Garwicks, we are not related to them! We are from Findlay,OH.

(I chose 1 star simply because I had to). Clearly, Tammy either works for Garwicks or didn't bother to take a tour of the kennels. If she had, she would have realized that Garwicks is nothing more than a puppy mill. A reputable breeder does not have over 20 dogs permanently residing in small cages for the explicit purpose of churning out mass quantities of puppies for profit. A reputable breeder is concerned about the health and welfare of it's animals and can show a prospective buyer that both parents are on the premises, have documentation, and are in good physical health and demonstrate sound behavior (i.e., they're not barking spastically and spinning relentlessly in circles like the dogs at Garwick's were).

To purchase a puppy from this place is to promote puppy mills.

Garwicks is a breeder and pet supply store. They are conscientious and do a great job with their dogs. The staff is knowledgable and very friendly. Store is clean and doesn't have that "animal" smell.
