Customer service was horrible. Unfortunately, I won't go back due to the insulting nature of the techs.
1The Woodsy's staff simply isn't people friendly. As a former Kent State student, I have been going to Woodsy's for years and I have never felt welcomed there. The guitar tech upstairs has personally insulted me in some way every time I've spoken to him. That's without exaggeration-I've spoken to him dozens of times and he ALWAYS says something backhanded or outright insulting. If you're a beginner, don't go to Woodsy's because it may break your spirit. I don't mind spending a little extra to support local business, but Woodsy's won't get another dime from me until they learn the basics of customer service.

Wow, what an experience my 2 sons and I had today at the Kent Woodsy's location. My eldest son (16) had an acoustic guitar to be restrung and an Fender electric to be looked at for repair. We walk in the front door and to the counter, without being able to get a word out, or a proper "can I help you" we're told to go upstairs, repairs are done upstairs. I explained that we needed to buy some strings and then have them installed. So we were assisted begrudgingly with picking out some strings. Then, upstairs we go...
This man, more rude than the last, verbally tears apart the 1st guitar my son showed him (granted a fender squire) and lets us know that it'll cost over $75.00 to set it up and make a small repair. And he would maybe be able to get to it next week. The next guitar, a newer acoustic recently handed down by a deceased grandfather we wished to have restrung. The Woodsy's employee says, "and you want me to do this the last hour of my day, huh?" to which I responded, "that would be great if you could". About 8 minutes later were downstairs browsing, and purchasing a new digital tuner and the man walks quickly by and says he's finished, we go back upstairs. We were charged over $25.00 to have this guitar restrung, and supposedly the neck tightened (on a new guitar with the cellophane still on the pickgaurd). We did not authorize this repair, but we paid for it. He then went on to tell us very rudely that "this is the proper way to string a guitar (indicating the strings wrapped neatly around the tuners). Then, no thank you, no have a nice day, no came back again, nothing. Please read on...
I am no musician, and it seems that even the sight of a novice or ignorant customer is appalling to Woodsy's staff. However, I am a local youth worker, working very closely with several local bands. I have also hosted numerous large concert events including Jars of Clay and a Battle of the Bands (bringing in annually 16 bands). In addition to this I have MC'd and been on the board of music events on the River at Falls Riverfront, founded a teen dance with over 300 teens in regular attendance . I also have overseen the overhaul of a $27,000 sound system in conjunction with Lentine's, Midnight Blue, and Mirror/Mirror Productions, in our own 1000 seat auditorium (all of whom, know their stuff and are courteous too). I say all this now, and did not while in the store (of course), to say I've been a resident of Portage County all my life and I know a couple of musicians, and after my brief encounter with Woodsy's staff I will not be able to recommend this store to anyone. This is sad. Thanks for your time.

This is the place for all you music lovers out there. They offer lessons, and a wide variety of products. From Guitar pics and strings all the way to any type of musical instrument you can think of. The staff is courteous and helpful, and can answer any questions you may have regarding your musical instrument. The prices are decent, and overall it is a nice place to learn about and purchase music equipment.

This company was offered to us by the school and has been exceptional with the instrument that we rent from them. It's convenient and well priced against the competition.
They are located on Water Street in Kent and offer a wide variety of items for the musician. Their service department is superior and they will service their leased instruments at no charge.
They have been a pleasure to work with for the past two years and I would highly recommend them.
PROS: Great Customer Service
CONS: None

As far as I can tell, these guys know their stuff. However, it seems they don't have much patience with folks who don't know what they're looking for. We've been in a number of times looking for music, instrument repair, guitar cases, etc. (they have everything!), they seem more interested in selling guitars than anything, so don't expect an attentive, helpful salesperson. However, they're the only place around for this kind of stuff.
PROS: Selection
CONS: Service, attitude toward customers
