This place was very dirty and dark. these people never asked about my pet's shot record. God forbid someone brings in a dog with parvo!! Basically he did nothing for my dog, but put a 150.00 band-aid on her leg.\r
You pay 40 something

AWFUL!! DO NOT GO HERE!! I spoke with this vet 4 weeks ago ,talking to him about docking my 10 week doberman's ears, he told me specifically what week to come and get it done when he would be old enough. So we made an appointment. I

I just wanted to take this moment to express how grateful I have become with the care of my two dobermans,by Dr. Richard Vago. He not only cropped their ears, spayed and neutered them, but saved them both from a serious bout of parvo, which they contracted from a boarding kennel, which shall remain nameless. Doc hospitalized them for 5 days and litterally spent 24 hours a day administering to their medical needs. I was allowed to visit them each day as they both progressed miraculously through
their ordeal.I have never been so impressed with a veterinarian
and his individual care of such sick and needy animals as I have with Doc Vago, and believe me I've seen plenty. All I can give is a heart-felt thank you to Dr. Richard Vago for saving my 2 best friends! Thanks Doc and God bless! George R.

I just thought I would take a moment to express how grateful I am
in having taken my aged cat "Freckles" to Dr. Richard Vago. I was referred to him by a neighbor who just raved about Doc, after he saved his pet from cancer. Needless to say, I set up the appointment for Freckles last Monday. She had an enlarged mass over her shoulder, that was getting bigger by the day, and I was also getting quite concerned. Doc gave Freckles a complete exam and because of her age, just numbed the area with a local anesthetic and aspirated some fluid and sent it out for a cytology report. The report came back as a malignant tumor, when Doc informed me of the situation, I just thought it was automatic for euthanasia! Dr. Richard convinced me that removal and subsequent chemo might be a viable alternative. Doc operated and the pathology report stated that he removed all of the offending mass with clean edges around the tumor, which meant that Freckles didn''t need any chemo therapy. If Doc hadn't been there to guide me through this ordeal, I don't think Freckles would still be with me....Thanks for caring so much Dr Vago, I truely believe that you treat your patients like they belong to you, and you must give yours the very best care. Thanks Doc for giving me back my buddy Freckles, I'll never forget you and your wonderful good deeds and carring manner. DannyF

Took my cat for blood tests and teeth cleaning. I had spoken with Dr. Vago specifically NOT to give my 13 year old inside cat any vaccinations nor rabies shot. I also stated I did not want her under general anesthesia, but light sedation. Unfortunately I allowed her to stay overnight. Upon picking her up I was presented with a $455.00 bill which I felt was extremely high. He told me he gave her all her shots and updated vaccinations and rabies shot!. He also said that her blood tests showed she positively had hyperthyroidism. I requested a copy of the blood tests. On the back of one sheet, he hand wrote that her thyroid was high. I verbally questioned him and he told me he had additional testing done that absolutely proved she had hyperthyroidism. He gave me
pills to give her every 3 days. The bottle had a typed name of
Tamezole. No other info on the bottle. I checked the web and found it should have been spelled Tamazole. He told me it was only 5 mgs. I gave it to her as instructed, but she was sick every
day since she came home. This is a cat that has NEVER vomited except for one time years ago after general anesthesia and only once. She smelled awful as well. He told me he groomed her and sprayed some "nice smelly stuff" on her. I didn't get my usual Rabies certificate nor metal tag. Again I called and he said he
would mail it. I got the tag, but no certificate. She continued to
vomit and I called again and asked him to send me a copy of the additional testing he said he did which diagnosed positively she had hyperthyroidism. I told him I was NOT giving her any more pills til I received that paperwork to see if she might stop vomiting. He sent me another copy of the exact same blood tests I already had. He then recommended I then give her the same Rx every 4th day which I have not done. The reason I didn't is because I did extensive investigation and found that he LIED TO ME about the additional testing. There was no additional testing ordered nor performed! I asked him what he did to her??? I asked about the brush he used on her (I doubt it was clean after reading so many negative reviews on his unsanitary conditions). I asked about the place she stayed overnight. I don't have any idea what utensils nor surgical tools he may have used. He then told me on the phone
"Well, she is 13 and these things happen...perhaps she has virus
from your husband shoveling snow and then bringing in bacteria
on his boots or from grocery bags". I explained that she was never sick before and I don't think she aged overnight and that if there was any virus, it had to come from his clinic! He said he would check on her later this week. He appears to be a nice person, but I don't think he has his mental faculties as on her paperwork, it also had the wrong name and even the wrong breed! I plan to go further with this and pray my cat lives. I would caution everyone to seek alternative vet treatment as I now have reason to believe he may have even been the cause of my brother's cat's death.

DONT GO TO HIM! I took my female bunny there to be spayed. He said to withdrawl food, water, and gave NO PAIN MEDS. I now talked with an Exotic Vetrinarian and she said You are NOT supposed to withdrawl food, and you GIVE THEM PAIN MEDS. Well I took her January 18th 2010 to get her spayed, and I found her dead January 20th 2010. I tried to get a hold of him, because I was getting concerned about her, But OF COURSE he was at a seminar, and could care less. I called them and told them that she died, because she had an appointment to get her stitches out. ( Which your supposed to use disolving stitches to prevent infection!) And they were very unsympathetic, didn't even send a sympathy card, Which my other Vet did That I send my dogs too! If you want to get your bunny fixed i reccommend Cross Roads in Strongsville. THIS GUY DOESNT KNOW WHAT HES DOING. He put me through hell because of his carelessness with my baby girl. DONT TAKE YOUR PETS HERE. TRUST ME NO ONE DESERVES TO GO THROUGH WHAT I WENT THROUGH!

No repeat business I'd say find a better place

I can't believe what a horrible review that Catie G. wrote. Dr. Vago has never been rude in any way to me in all the years I have been going to him.First met Dr. Vago when he worked in the Cleveland Heights area. I know of no other Doctor who shows more compassion not only to our beloved family members but to their human parents. Dr. Vago is a very kind and wonderful person he has a high standard for the care he provides to his (clients) pets, he treats them all as if they were his own.If anyone is looking for that special, wonderful person to care for your family member(s) as if they were their own. There should not even be a second thought to coming to him, he comes highly recommended.

His staff is always been great with my pet children!

There aren't even enough starts to give or show how much he is well loved.

Extremely unsanitary and reeks of awful smelling pine seed. Over charged, at the drop of a dime. Music blasting in the background. Used items on my sick puppy then put the same objects back in the drawers for the next customer. Unbelievably rude, would NEVER in a MILLION years go back for a second visit!!!

You will not find a more caring vet in the city than Dr. Vago. Even before he opened his own vet office in Parma he became a trusted friend. He drove from the west side of Cleveland on his day off to help us out with our dog, Peri, who had suffered a heart attack. He picked up my sister at home and took her to the hospital with the dog. He did everything he could to save Peri. We will be forever grateful to him for the love and care he has given all our pets over the years. He has been our vet for over thirty years and has become a close family friend. Dr. Vago is the best!!!

Does anyone else think that it is weird that several different reviews were posted on consecutive days all in caps lock? I also had my pet taken here and at first, once I tried to disregard the general smell and grimy feeling of the office, I took a liking to Vago. After my second visit feelings started to change. As far as the fact that he has been in business for many years, that is fine, however; that does not discount the fact that his practices are less than ethical and suspicious. When I asked about a declaw he had his "assistant" who has no formal training to fetch their siamese cat. He showed me her paws and said they keep her there and she births kittens. Well, she never is loose so I am assuming she is kept in back in a cage because prior I had not seen hide nor hair of her and it is a tiny place. When I brought my cat home from a neuter he had dirt and litter stuck firmly to the neuter wounds, how is that sanitary? Vago thinks that by spritzing your animal with some tacky smelly body spray for people that he is adding a special touch. Save the spritz and use the money to buy some cleanser and keep your office and holding cages clean please! I also had problems that are similar to one of the first reviews that Vago never seemed to keep track of the records and never knew what had been done to my pet there. As far as these reviews go, it's all good and well that he "appears" to have loyal happy clients. Go take a vist to the office yourself and have a good sniff and look around at the "staff" and judge for yourself. Would you take your loved one to a hospital that appeared dirty and unkempt? Or smelled foul? Make arrangements other than what suits him and his time frame and see how that outward appearance of a down home grandfatherly type quickly turns to an obnoxious arrogant childlike performance. Reading reviews can help but you won't know until you truly see for yourself. Save yourself a headache and spend the extra couple bucks at a reputable vet.

I was having trouble with my female boxer having pups and called around to several Vets. No one would answer, even the simplest of questions, until I called Dr. Vago's office. He stayed on the phone for over 20 minutes answering most of my questions; then gave me his "emergency number" incase I needed him later that evening. As it worked out, my little Sheeba had 7 beautiful Boxer pups that night and I took her and the pups into Doc's place the next ,morning for their physicals and to dock the tails and do the dewclaws. Dr. Vago continued to be personally involved and about 5-6 weeks of age gave the pups their vaccinations. What I like about Dr. Vago is that he always gives me the (personal attention) that I really think is lacking in alot of other Veterinarians, he answers my questions, doesn't make me feel that I'm being rushed, and rarely looks at his watch during my time with him. I noticed that he has a nifty WEBVCITE, which is very interesting to visit....I'm listing it here, since I feel more people should be aware of such a great Doctor.
http;//dr.richardvago.tripod. whenever I leave his office, I always leave with alittle bit of learning!
GOOD LUCK ALWAYS DR. VAGO AND THANKS FOR ALL YOUR HELP.......

i CAN'T THANK THE DAY ENOUGH WHEN I FIRST MET DR. VAGO, MY DOG HAD JUST GOT INJURED BY A CAR AND ALOT OF VETS WOULDN'T SEE HIM WITHOUT A SUBSTANTIAL DEPOSIT, UP FRONT. WHEN I CALLED DR. VAGO, ALL HE HAD TO HEAR WAS "A DOG INJURED BY A CAR" AND HE JUST SAID BRING HIM IN RIGHT AWAY. MY WIFE AND MYSELF RUSHED OUR PET,"PETTIE" TO DR. VAGO'S OFFICE, BREAKING EVERY SPEED RULE IN TOWN. WHEN WE ARRIVED, HE HELPED US GET PETTIE INTO THE OFFICE AND HE GAVE A PAIN SHOT RIGHT AWAY. AFTER A PRELIMINARY EVALUATION HE DISCOVERED THAT PETIE HAD A DISLOCATED RIGHT HIP. HE EXPLAINED THAT AFTER SLIGHT SEDATION HE COULD GET THE HIP BACK IN PLACE AND TRUSS IT, ALONG WITH GIVING MORE PAIN MEDICINE. WE LEFT PETTIE OVERNIGHT AND PICKED HIM UP THE NEXT MORNING. DR. VAGO NEVER BROUGHT "MONEY INTO THE CONVERSATION" UNTIL HE CALLED US THAT NIGHT ...TELLING US THAT PETTIE WAS RESTING PEACEFULLY AND THAT THE SURGICAL PROCEEDURE WAS SUCCESSFUL AS FAR AS GETTING HIS HIP INTO PLACE AND TREATING MINOR WOUNDS.
I REALLY APPRECIATED HOW DR. VAGO WAS MORE CONCERNED ABOUT PETIE AND HIS PAINFUL SITUATION, THAN THE ALMIGHT DOLLAR...DR. VAGO WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN ALL MY LIFE? NEEDLESS TO SAY, WE HAVE FOUND A VETERINARIAN THAT HAS CAPTURED OUR HEARTS....

I FIRST MET DR. VAGO ABOUT A YEAR AGO AND THANK GOD I DID....HE HAS BEEN A GOD SEND TO ME AND MY LITTLE KITTY, SAMANTHA! HE DIAGNOSED A RARE FORM OF LIVER DISEASE AND THROUGH MEDS AND SPECIAL DIET WE KEPT HER GOING FOR ALMOST 7 MONTHS. AS TIME WENT BY SHE STARTED TO DETERIORATE AND WENT INTO DECLINE...DR. VAGO ALLOWED HER TO SLIP AWAY IN MY ARMS AS HE ADMINISTERED THE FINAL MEDICINE THAT WOULD RELEASE HER FROM THE SUFFERING...HE ALLOWED ME TO STAY WITH HER EVEN AFTER SHE PASSED, AS I PRAYED AND CRIED AND TRIED TO MAKE PEACE WITH OUR MAKER. I STILL RTEMEMBER DR. VAGO'S WORDS OF CONSOLATION, WHEN HE SAID,"PERHAPS THE PEOPLE THAT LOVE THE MOST ARE THE ONES THAT ULTIMATELY MAKE THAT FINAL DECISION TO LET GO." THANK YOU DR. VAGO FOR YOUR UNDERSTANDING IN MY HOUR OF NEED I WILL ALWAYS APPRECIATE YOUR KIND WORDS, GOD BLESS YOU....DONNA

I CAME UPON THIS TESTIMONIAL PRINTED IN MY E-MAIL AND THOUGHT THAT I WOULD SHARE IT WITH THE MANY FRIENDS AND CLIENTS OF DR. VAGO'S. "HI, THIS IS KRISTIE COSTA AND I WOULD LIKE TO MAKE A TESTIMONIAL IN HONOR OF DR. RICHARD VAGO....MY FIRST MEMORY OF DR. VAGO WAS WHEN I WAS SEVEN (I AM 34 NOW). THE FIRST TIME MY FAMILY ENTRUSTED A BELOVED PET TO HIS CARE WAS 31 YEARS AGO AND THAT WAS MY GRANDPARENTS, WHEN THEY BRED THEIR MALTESE SISSY. THE LONG LIST OF PETS DR. VAGO HAS TREATED ARE: SISSY, TASSIE,CASPER,TEDDY, BENJI, BINGO,, TWEETY, FONZIE, GONZO, RIZO, COPPER, AND MARSHALL.
MY AUNT HAS TAKEN ZAV, MERLIN, AND 5 CATS TO DR. VAGO FOR TREATMENT, HER STEP-DAUGHTER HAS BROUGHT 9 CATS AND MY SISTER BRINGS HER DOG. WE HAVE SEVERAL FRIENDS AND NEIGHBORS THAT HAVE STARTED HAVING DR. VAGO TREAT THEIR PETS; I LIST THEM BECAUSE IT IS AMAZING THE AMOUNT OF ANIMALS HE HAS SEEN IN MY FAMILY ALONE. I USED TO LIVE A FEW STREETS AWAY FROM HIS OFFICE AND NOW LIVE IN BRUNSWICK. ALOT OF MY FRIENS OFTEN TELL ME TO GO TO ONE OF THE LOCAL VETS AROUND THE CORNER FROM WHERE I LIVE, I ALWAYS RESPOND BY TELLING THEM THAT I WOULD TRAVEL FROM CALIFORNIA TO CONTINUE TAKING MY PETS TO HIM. I BELIEVE THAT DR. VAGO IS A BRILLIANT VET, LET ALONE A WONDERFUL HUMAN BEING. HE IS VERY KNOWLEDGEABLE IN HIS FIELD AND CONTINUES TO ATTEND SEMINARS AND KEEPS UP ON THE LATEST TREATMENTS. HE GIVES OUR ANIMALS DIGNITY AND RESPECT AND TREATS US THE SAME. LIKE I SAID, I WAS ONLY 7 WHEN I FIRST REMEMBER TAKING OUR MALTESE TO HIM. I STOOD IN THE SAME OFFICE AS TODAY, BARELY TALLER THAN THE EXAM TABLE, ADMIRING
THE PICTURES OF HIS CHILDREN ON THE WALL. AND NOW WE SEE PICTURES OF HIS GRANDCHILDREN... HIS GRANDFATHER, ALSO A VETERINARIAN WOULD BE EXTREMELY PROUD......THANYOU DR. VAGO FOR ALL THOSE YEARS OF CARING.
SINCERELY, KRISTIE COSTA

I thought that I would just take a moment to commend Dr. Richard Vago for the great job he did in saving my soulmate and life -long companion Jake. My buddy was dignosed with a rare type of skin tumor that 3 other vets refused to operate on and reccomended that I put him down...I was referred to Doc Vago by my brother in law as a court of last result...I made the appointment and after Doc did an exhaustive physical, he told me that if Jake was his dog, he would give him a"fighting chance" to try and beat the odds against
this insidious cancer...Doc operated and sent in a biopsy...Jake came through the entire ordeal with flying colors and the pathology report showed that the entire tumor mass was removed cleanly with no cancerous borders...Jake just turned 13 years old and we had one of the best birthday parties for him, I'm just sorry that Doc couldn't attend...but I know his spirit was there...Thank you forever Dr. Vago for giving my
buddy the same chance at life that you would give your own..I sometimes wish I would have come to you sooner....thank you from the bottom of my heart! SCOPPS

The whole place smells like dirty animals and cat urine. I brought in my cat at 8 weeks of age for a worming and his first series of shots. I set up an appointment for the cat to be neutered a couple of months later. I told Dr Vago that my cat was a male on the first visit. When I called to set up the appointment for the neuter he said he thought the cat was female. I reminded him that no, it is a male. When I showed up for the neuter he said, oh you're here for your spaying...umm no for a neuter I said again this is a male cat! I had my cat wormed 3 times there and treated for an eye injury. I stopped taking my cat here because Dr Vago seemed increasingly more incompetent and acted almost senile and I did not trust him to take proper or decent care of my pet. I got a postcard for a checkup that had been used and reused and had my name pasted on it over three other peoples names/addresses. My cat is now 2 years old and I moved out of state, I needed my records to have him treated by the vet here. He would not release my records and was extremely rude and mean. I had the new vet call him after he hung up on me and he told the new vet I hadn't even been there in three years and he "deactivated" my records even though I have receipts dating just one year prior, plus my cat is only 2 yrs old, you do the math. I called back several times saying that all I needed was for him to put my records in an addressed stamped envelope that I would send him. He said I missed appointments and he wasn't obligated to do anything, and the new vet said he could tell he was lying because he kept saying different things and putting him on hold. My new vet said there is no reason that he should not have my records and was shocked and appalled at his behavior. A friend had a dog treated by Vago that never got better, a second opinion confirmed he wasn't getting proper care the dog soon after passed away, the damage had been done. Please keep your pets away from this man!

I know someone who used to work at this place, and I have heard many horror stories about the Doctor taking poor care of animals and trying to rip off customers financially. Please be very careful if you decide to take your pets to this hospital.

Dr. Richard Vago is the most compassionate vet this side of Heaven. Not only does he care about the animals but he loves the people too.
Recently I had to have my 14 yr old dog put to sleep...He was very caring and tried to make my family as comfortable as possible and made her last moments here on earth dignified. He knew how much she meant to our family and how devistasted we were. I have 5 dogs and 5 cats...they all see Dr Vago. He shares in our times of joy with our pets. Our dogs Faith and Hope he has seen from puppyhood and loves to watch them grow...he shares in our amazement as to how fast they are growing and knows how much they are loved.
He is very dedicated to helping the animals..he is in this business for the animals and not the money.
I have read a lot of reviews before choosing him to be our family vet...a lot good and some bad. To the bad ones I say...shame on you! If you dont like the vet then take your animals somewhere else. To the ones that gripe about the cost., I say how can you put a price on a life? If you want a compassionate vet who goes beyond the call of duty, Dr Vago is the man to take your pets to. I think he is reasonable in his prices but even if they are to high for some people...Did you ever hear you get what you pay for? Money is not why he does what he does...he does this because he is an avid animal lover that truly cares about our pets. I for one refuse to watch him be bashed! If you didnt like your family doctor, you would keep looking until you found the right one for you and if your pets mattered to you as much as you claim they do, you should do the same thing for them instead on waiting time online trying to bash a caring man. Everyone is intitled to an opinion..I think Dr Vago and Penny are the best Cleveland has to offer!

Our pets,
Destiny, Tank, Gabriel, Faith, Hope, Disco, Gypsy, Electra, Xanadu, & Oreo.
Thanks Dr V for the wonderful way you care for our pets and for us!

I've just recently gone to Snow-Ridge Veterinary Hospital and what a breath of fresh air....I met Dr. Richard Vago for the first time and was very impressed. His office is clean and he greets his clients with a firm hand-shake. He dresses very professionally and some- how manages to put the "even new client/pet" at ease. I was really impressed in how he explains things...not using big words or certain expressions that are so technical that one often feels somewhat inferior ...he certainly doesn't try to "SNOW" the client as some previous vets have tried to do. I actually left the office with a great deal of learning after Dr. Vago made the diagnosis with my pet Scottie and prescribed medication. Thank you Doc Vago for all that you have done and I certainly will be back! Frank M.

We have been taking our pets to Dr. Vago for over 25 years. We have had nothing but positive experiences with him and his staff. Our 3 dogs and 1 cat have been provided with loving and skilled care. Our oldest dog was 10 when we took her to Dr. Vago for the first time after another vet said we should plan to put her down soon. Dr. Vago gave a full exam and ordered testing. With arthritis meds and a special diet the change in her was dramatic-she was playing and taking walks and was her old self again. She had another 6 good years because of Dr. Vago's diligence in monitoring her condition. When the bad days outnumbered the good he was as gentle and compassionate with us as he was with her. She died in our arms and he was there as much for us as he was for her. Our other dog which we had at the same time had similar testing and her own meds and diet changes. She also had a full life and died of an aggressive cancer a few months after the first dog at 13 (probably from grief from the loss of her buddy). She went in for testing and he had to keep her over night. He stayed with her. The cancer was farther along than I realized. In the morning he kept calling me (I didn't have call waiting) and when he finally got through there wasn't enough time for me to get there he stayed with her until the end. His waiting clients understood.
Our last dog was 16 when he passed away and was under Dr. Vago's care all his life. From normal checkups to life-saving surgeries, our Pup got the best care I could imagine. He also had regular testing and later on meds and special food. Dr's skill and knowledge provided a long, happy life.
Our cat is 6 and I know she'll have the same long full life as the others.
Our pets are our children and Dr. Vago treats them as such. Is he more expensive? I don't know and I don't care. What I do know is our dogs had quality lives to the ages of 16, 13, and 16 and that doesn't come without outstanding veterinary care.
This is my first post.

Cons: Talks fast sometimes

Horrible. When you first go to him he tells you how he and his wife decided to stay in Parma instead of higher income area, basically to help the lower income families. I think he's planting the seed in peoples minds that he is cheaper. Initially you think he is cheaper until you realize he charges for everything, even follow-up visits. He won't write a perscription, he wants you to come to office to get it where he charges 21/2 to 3 times more for it. He evedentily doesn't keep records because you always have to remind of what he did and he never seems to have your pets folder When I got sick of him and his practices, the clinic I wanted to go to tried to my cats records from him and he was impolite to them and then lied and told them he didn't do tests on my cat.. The office is small, dark dingy, there is only Dr. Vago and his assistant and they are only there about 19 hours a week. Total incompetent.
