Gateway Animal Clinic is Stupendously Awesome
by Bryan L.
5 cats, 12+years and never-ever-ever have we been unhappy. Our cats love, Dr. Bob (Glenn, Dom) and Dr Liz (Norman, Zoe) and Dr Kiera (Edmund). This is a great place and for those of you who are unhappy, keep in mind that this is a first come/first serve clinic for the most part and waits are part of the deal, but that is worth it for the quality care you get. As long as the clinic is standing, we will be going there.

I had to give it three stars because it is the only referall clinic n the area. HOWEVER, be very proactive with these Vets, they like to price gouge and I know of more than one instance where they have over-chemo'd animals and after the cancer was gone the animals died from the Chemo treatment. Just be very adamant what you want.

More than satisfied
by Heidi S.
We know our Sasha will like Dr. Abbey as much as our Satin did and we ourselves. Look forward to seeing her with our new dog and know she will get the best of care with Dr. Abbey, who could not have been nicer to us with the passing of our Satin.

5 star treatment
by Cindi M.
Gateway is a great Clinic, I received great care for my pet thanks to Dr. Abbey, she really cares about her patients and goes the extra mile to put owner at ease. I would recommend Gateway to anyone who wants great care, with experienced and caring veterinarian's, and I do recommend Gateway to my Friends and family members. It is nice to know you get great care, and the cost is affordable. I read some of the other reviews of negativity of the receptionists, but every time I was there they were very friendly, and nice. If you go to Gateway and there is a room full of people and pets and it seems like no one is being seen, that is probably because there is an emergency that needs to be addressed, so stay patient because I would imagine if it was your pet that needed the emergency care you would hope they would put everything on hold and take care of your pet. Gateway you vets are the best---do not change!!!!

Not Sure why they have a phone
by JP J.
I have been trying to reach them for two days now, the phone just rings and rings after you listen to all the prompts. They should change the name to "Walk IN ONLY Clinic, take a # and wait 3 hours!"

I am completely satisfied
by Candace T.
After reading the reviews, it seems there must be ONE VERY RUDE receptionist that pops in and out! I have never been rudely treated. Maybe it is because I am there to take care of business, not to make a new best friend. All I want is the basics from the receptionist and that is all anyone should require. Some people are so sensitive that if you don't tell them you like their hair and chat them up, they are offended. Forget the receptionist thing already!
The important thing is to have your pet seen by a qualified vet at a reasonable price and to have them put your pet at ease. That place is a love fest! You deal with the receptionist for 30 seconds and then you sit with all kinds of kind and interesting people with exceptionally good-looking and well-behaved pets. The time goes by pretty quickly because of all the comings and goings. The reception area is immaculate. My cat defecated because he is old and we had a long wait one day. I was going to take him into the washroom but someone immediately took him from me and cleaned him up and flipped the rug in the carrier so he wouldnt be uncomfortable.
The vets at Gateway are wonderful and caring and considerate of costs. That is more important than ever. Not only have I always received excellent and very loving care for my pets, I see the same thing on either side of me. So what if you have to sit there for awhile?
Anyway, as I said at the beginning, I am completely satisfied!

Dr. Abby is the BEST, the Receptionist Staff the WORST
by James B.
Dr. Abby Behrens, DMV is just wonderful she has a true calling for her profession, her love and empathy for my sick dog came shining through, she tells you step by step what she is doing, she takes all the time you need to ask questions, I just can't say enough or give her more accolades.
Now on the reverse side, the receptionist staff is beyond rude and just down right nasty, you come in, they do not even greet you, they barely acknowledge you, they are curt and nasty. If they hate their jobs so much they should leave, I hope Gateway will fire them and get people in there that will do their jobs with a smile and actually help people....

Docs are THE BEST-Reception Staff-THE WORST
by Kathy B.
I agree with all who have given Dr.'s Bob and Brian great reviews. We have been using their services for 20 plus years. They have taken great care of our dogs. They are knowledgeable and compassionate. The Reception staff leaves much to be desired. It is very rarely you are greeted with a smile (unless you are a friend of these ladies at the front desk-I have observed over many, many hours of waiting), they snap at you and are bossy; and do not even think of asking them how long you might wait-you'll really get some attitude. I understand it can be frustrating to work with the public, but if you cannot deal with that type of job you should not be working there.

Great Experience
by Cindy L.
I was referred to Gateway by a friend. I had previously been using a very pricey suburban vet, but was displeased with their lack of customer care and the diagnosis they had given my dog. My dog was seen by Dr. Bob and he listened carefully to my concerns while he examined my dog. He quickly diagnosed her condition (correctly) and helped her along the road to recovery. One of the things I respect most about Dr. Bob is he truly had the best interest of my dog in mind. He walked me through every stage of the process leading up to surgery and maintained excellent communication when we encountered some difficulties with surgery due to the nature of my dog's breed. The surgery was a success and I will definately continue to go to the clinic for future services. I must also mention that the facility is clean, well maintained, and the technicians and receptionists have always been pleasant and helpful in person and over the phone.

The Best Around
by Cindy C.
Vets. Brian and Bob have taken care of my Dog (CICI) and Cat (Kikher) their whole life. Cici was a black lab and both of my loving vets. helped Cici to live a full life of 16 years. They made sure that she was able to walk and live without pain. She would play with you up until her last day. They are the best vets. around.

Couldn't ask for better care
by barbara r.
I cannot believe all the negative reviews for the Gateway receptionists! Are you kidding me!My animals (all of them) have been patients of the Gateway staff for more years than I can count. Cats & Dogs, old and young. It doesn't matter, the staff treated us so well and the doctors are so knowledgeable I would be grateful to find a "human" doctor that I could go to and get the superb treatment that my animals do. I have had a puppy with parvo and less than 15% chance of survival that just turned 4 years old, to old St. Bernard and Rottweiler that were so humanly treated in their old age it makes me jealous that I will not find any human care to equal it when my time comes. I have even rescued a small puppy from horrible abuse, being dragged by a jerk on a bicycle down a busy street, all its pads were scrapped off, and all its toes on the right paw broken. Gateway took care of this dog, treated and healed her, gave her all her shots and spayed her without asking me for a dime, I then fostered her until we found her a good home. How much more can they do? As far as I am concerned there is no better place on this earth than Gateway. It's a little bit of heaven on earth. And lets not forget the Noah Project!!! We can all help them by donating to the Noah Project. Every time you take your pet for care and pay your bill which we all know is very reasonable, leave a little extra for the Noah Project so they can continue to care and treat neglected and abused animals. Thank you Gateway, Dr. Brian, Dr. Bob, Dr. Liz and the entire staff. Including the receptionists THANK YOU ALL!

Whole staff is great!!!
by NICHOLE D.
The doctors and entire staff are great at Gateway. At some points of the week it can be extremely busy, but the wait is worth it!! I personally have never had any problem with the receptionist. They have to see all these people before the doctors do and ive seen how rude and impatient the clients can be. Its a walk in clinic so I believe clients should expect the wait unless its an emergency. Gateway does not turn you away unlike other suburban clinics. They have always been there for my pets and I in out time of need I would recommend Gateway to everyone!!!

Good for routine care, not for real problems!
by Jessica M.
I started going to Gateway when we found our kitten. He was wild and had an eye infection, so he needed shots and some eye treatment. Gateway was good for that. But a few months later, he got really sick. It was right before the news came out about the bad cat food from China and now I think he might have gotten some of that. Anyway, they did a lot of expensive tests and they couldn't figure out what was wrong. On Friday morning, they told me to wait over the weekend and see what happened. But my 4 month old kitten had eaten or drank in 3 days! I told them that and they said all I could do was wait it out. I was afraid he wouldn't make it over the weekend and the vet there really didn't seem to care at all. A family member recommended a vet that had helped her cat and we got into the other vet that afternoon. That vet had my cat eating 15 minutes after we walked in the office and he got steadily better under her care. I don't think he would have made it if we had relied on the advice from the Gateway vet.
Gateway has good prices, so for routine care like shots and fleas and stuff, its a good place. But if something is ever seriously wrong with your animals, go somewhere else. The vets there don't take the time to really treat animals with unusual or hard to diagnose problems, in my experience.

good care, bad reception
by Matt J.
We brought our dog here because we heard great things about Dr.'s Brian and Bob. Our dog needed surgery for a luxating patella. The cost at gateway was going to be about a third of what it would have been at the orthopedic surgeon our regular vet recommended. I met with Dr. Brian and he is great. The surgery and subsequent recovery went great. The ladies at the front desk, however, were rude. There was a dog in pain that was yelping. The owner was told, "if you can't get that dog to shut up, then you need to take it outside." I understand that waiting room can be a stressful environment, but people and their ill pets should be met with civility, if not sympathy. So, Dr. Brian was great. I will come back to Gateway if my dog needs anymore intensive procedures, as the prices really are surprisingly low. But I will continue to take my dog to Big Creek Pet Hospital for shots and checkups. They are very kind to both pets and people.

Why has everyone forgotten about Dr. Bob????????
by Donna M.
Dr. Bob is the sweetest, kindest most loveable person in the entire world. He truly, truly cares deeply about all the animals he treats and has a heart that can't be beaten. He is an angel sent by God. Anyone care to disagree with this?

Best Vets, Clean Office
by Anne D.
Debra couldn't be more wrong. I've been taking my animals to these vets since Dr. Brian was in the OLD APL nearly 20 years. They are compassionate, conscious of money concerns, patient with cranky older dogs.
All the vets are great, as are the attending staff. If the ladies at the front desk get cranky occasionally, maybe it's because the waiting room is always crowded since it's a walk-in clinic. You do usually have to wait, but it's worth it.
Also, the waiting room/lobby is kept exceptionally clean, as is the entire facility.

It used to be good
by Debra S.
I've gone to this vet for 15 years - since it was located in the APL. I can't take it anymore - I've left for a new vet. The ladies up front are notoriously rude and frequently incompetent. If you don't come in with your animal and sit in their overcrowded and filthy lobby you get nothing. I've been trying to get an antihistamine added to my dog's recurrent ear infection drug array and it seems the only way to do that is to sit through the excruciating walk-in process even though she was just seen recently. You can no longer make an appointment - you must be seen by walk-in - which can mean a two hour wait. I left a written request three days ago, but this is no good either.
I give up. I'm going to have to drive 15 miles out to Lakewood.

Great Care- Reasonable Prices
by Anonymous
I am constantly amazed by the caring staff at Gateway. I have been taking my cats (3) and dog (1) there for well over a decade. They are always able to help and provide excellent care. Although it can be busy at times- you really can't beat being able to walk in any day and get in to see the vet. I would definitely recommend Gateway- I still refuse to go anywhere else, I moved an hour away and still take my pets there.

DR. BRIAN IS THE BEST EVER VET
by Lee W.
I have been going to Gatway Animal Clinic since there were located in the APL building when I was a young teen and I am 36 and still going to him. He is the best ever vet and I will not ever see anyone else but him. I seen a review on the secretaries and I do have to say they are always so busy and going going going so it is hard for them to always be so great but I have never had a problem and the one time I did I spoke with Dr. Brian and have never had a problem since. He is not only the best vet ever he is also a very nice and caring person. I have rescued many animals and he has always been the one to care for them. I am a firm believer that if Dr. Brian can't help NO ONE CAN! Give Dr. Brian a chance you can request what ever Dr. you want so when you go in ask for Dr. Brian to be your vet. He is so popular so know that sometimes he will have emergency surgeries and you might have a wait could be a hour or more but it is so worth it. The other doctors that are there are good to my second choice is Dr. Bob but I only go when Dr. Brian is there unless it is an emergency. GO AHEAD GIVE HIM A TRY!

Kind and Loving Doctors
by Courtney K.
I recently had to move abruptly (due to husbands employer) to Fort Lauderdale, Florida and I had to leave my 2 cats with a family in Cleveland while my husband and I found a house and settled in. A few weeks after we arrived here I received a phone call from the Cleveland Police department that my cats were involved in an abuse case and have passed on. I was absolutely devastated, they were my babies and I never intended for them to be away from us for more that 2 or 3 weeks. Then just last week, almost 6 months since I was informed that my cats had passed away, I received a phone call from the wonderful vets at Gateway. One of my cats had been brought in by a Good Samaritan and she was identified by her microchip. She had unfortunately sustained extensive injuries because she was hit by a car but they provided her with excellent care while they were trying to get in touch with me. Unfortunately her injuries were so extensive that her prognosis was poor and she was humanely euthanized. I cannot express my appreciation for the kindness that the doctors showed for me and my family. I take great comfort in knowing that she was not in pain and was in loving, caring hands her last few days. I am a registered veterinary technician and I have worked for 3 veterinary clinics in the Cleveland/Akron area and Ft. Lauderdale. I just have to say that not one clinic that I have ever worked at would have provided the care that they did without payment prior to care, even if the owner could not be contacted immediately (which is what happened in my case). I would definitely recommend Gateway to anyone in the Cleveland area that is looking for a caring and professional veterinarian, they are absolutely amazing.

Thankful for Gateway!
by Anonymous
I adopted my first kitten from the animal shelter on brookpark in parma, but took him to gateway because the great location downtown. I was thankfully suprised of the service. The vets are absolutely amazing, extremely concerned and although pressed for time you wouldnt know it. Suprisingly it is nice to have it as a walk-in clinic without the emergency clinic feel, very convenient yet very clean and professional. I absolutely love gateway and couldn't ask for better vets! I especially recommend DR. BRIAN! Although they are all wonderful. My cat has had it horrible since his surgery at the shelter in which I found him. He was released same day, and in a miserable amount of pain, and two weeks later, he has yet to heal. I recommend taking your pets to gateway INSTEAD of the shelter you get them at. I regretfully made the mistake of not taking malcolm to gateway for surgery. But am thankful gateway is concerned with making him all better!

Been There for Years
by Elizabeth E.
My family and I have been going to Gateway to see Dr. Brian since before I was born. I have taken at least 9 cats of my own to this clinic, and we have always been treated with care, respect, and love. Dr. Brian makes an effort not only to remember our names, but also to ask us about our family and take care of our pets like his own. I would never go anywhere else.

Excellent Vet(s) but Rude Receptionists
by Kelly K.
I have been taking my pets to Gateway for several years but always the same issue - rude receptionists. I should have never gone back after they neglected to contact me regarding my cats ashes. Had I not called they would have thrown them away and they had the audacity to reprimand me as if I didnt want to pay for the cremation. They then found in their file no one had called me and the bill was prepaid. I figured it was a mistake and decided to give them a second try. But that general attitude never changed and today was the last straw. I inquired about the wait time and was instructed there was one person ahead of me. With no place to sit I had to stand at the counter. Shortly thereafter the person ahead of me also inquired about the wait time and was told the doctor was in surgery. Puzzled I wasnt told the same I questioned the receptionist and she actually asked me for my name, again. Mind you I had never left the counter and had already given it twice. I smiled, complied and told her I couldnt wait for the doctor to come out of surgery because I was on my lunch break and would be back. She denied making the comment and proceeded to try and convince me. It is a walk in clinic, I understand there is a wait, that isnt the issue I was being treated like an inconvenience and being lied to. I am a good paying customer and have taken over six animals there and this is how you get treated? Not again. Sorry Gateway but until your front desk is a great as theVets it just isnt worth it. I also live in Tremont and make a point of supporting local businesses so this makes the situation very unpleasant.

Took very good care of my dogs

I have 2 dogs who are basically my children and I searched for a good vet as a parent would search for a good doctor for their human children. I was very happy to have found Gateway. They took very good care of my dogs and treated them with gentleness and kindness. They were always very accomodating with appointments and my dogs have received nothing but top notch care from them.

We used to take our cat to Gateway Animal Clinc before we moved. We were worried we wouldn't be able to find such a great place - it has everything you want in a vet. Reasonable prices, immediate openings for emergency appointments, not a long wait for regular appointments, reminders to make an appointment, and really caring and knowledgeable vets. If you're in the area and have a pet to care for, Gateway Animal Clinic is a great place to go.
