Fifth Third Bank is not a good place to put your money
by Rhonda R.
We are struggling as we have lost income. Our car and mortgage payments were late by a couple of months. We were struggling to get back on track. When Fifth Third bank called about the car loan they said that payment needed to be made that day. I explained to them our mortgage payment needed to come out this time and the car the next time. When I went into out checking later that day they had debited our account for that payment anyway. That put our budget into a tail spin and they said when we called they had the right to do that. It's almost like when your struggling they kick you when your down. When I spoke with an agent a few days later she said he shouldn't have done that the car payment wasn't even 30 days past due.
The bank in our area the employees are not friendly, they rarely smile when your there. Oh they say all the right things like thank you for your business and can I help you with anything else. But when your struggling they are not there to help you out. I have read quite a few reviews elsewhere on Fifth Third Bank and they are not good ones.
So beware when using this bank. We have since changed banks

I Don't Trust My Bank
by B H.
After paying 5 times the appropriate cost for checks I contact 53 to ask them why the check fee was disclosed to me before my account was charged. They said their site redirects to a third-party vendor and they cannot be responsible for the third-party vendor. Hmmmm.....Very interesting response. They pick the vendor that I am redirected to on their site, the vendor does not disclose fees until the charges come out of my account, and 53 has no responsibility for the shady business practices?? I'm not sure what world they live in, but I'd like to think i trust my bank not to redirect me to a vendor that screws 53 customers. I wrote a letter to the President and CEO of 53 and got a reply from one his assistants basically reinforcing my poor opinion of the company. I foresee them being sued, again, for violating consumer protection laws. What a shame that in this day and age, after all that has happened in the financial sector of the market, we still have to worry about being ripped off by our own banks. Buyer beware if you choose to business with 53.

Terrible Customer Service and Unfair Fees
by Stephanie R.
I realize most banks are like this, but after 10 years as a customer at 5th 3rd, I've gotten tired of their constant policy changes--which all involve new ways to screw you out of your money with fees. Subtracting pending charges before actual charges. Daily overdrawn fees, no matter what the circumstance. Unwritten guidelines on when and if they do reverse fees for you. It's all random and depends on who you talk to. Don't bank here, for your own sake. They've also been showing up on lists of banks that are on shaky ground and near collapse. Don't take chances with your money and try somewhere else.

Money Leechers
by xeraphim w.
Please tell me you are joking.
Fifth Third Bank has got to be the worst customer service I have ever received--and that's saying something. The manager is nice up until he sees your monetary balance on the computer screen and the workers try to grub out of your account any chance they get. The investigator is right on the same page with every other staff member: If something "goes wrong" with your account, you can sure as heck bet that you will be fighting head and neck for your money.
Personally, my account has been stolen off of not once, but twice. The first time I was making a deposit and the teller tried to cheat me $1,000. After getting into my car and giving the slip a quick glance (you should /always/ check to see that the balance is correct) I realized it was a grand off and rushed back in to have it fixed.
The second time I was making a check out to myself. I made the very very bad mistake of signing and preparing everything beforehand. It's a bit personal to indulge into but I changed my mind and made it out for $5,000 after figuring that $3,000 wouldn't be enough to cover my daughter's out of home costs. I went into the bank and had the teller count the total as I always required and he said: "$5,000 for ya ma'am."
A few days later I receive a letter saying I've overdrawn by a little over 2,000. Turns out that money-grubbing bastard decided to keep the $3,000 for himself. I was unable to get my money back because the investigator refused to let me view the tapes--only giving me a few screencaps that were unfortunately, headshots.
Needless to say, I closed my account a.s.a.p. and am glad that I did. I just wish I'd done so sooner...
