The groom and I met with Brian Wixey and Julie on Sept. 16, 2011 followed by the bride and groom meeting with Julie the next day, followed up by a very explicit email from the groom to Wixeys on Sept. 23. Based on this and numerous phone calls thereafter to confirm everything, it was very clear what we wanted. Unfortunately, we showed up at the reception to find the most PATHETIC looking display of (3) plain white cakes sitting flat on the table (no cake tiers or anything) and (2) platters of cake donuts displayed behind the cakes. Our order was for (3) smaller cakes decorated in our colors and displayed on varying tier levels along with cake donuts decorated accordingly and then a mixed variety of other donuts, all displayed together in some ??neat? fashion. We ended up with (3) plain white cakes, 60 cake donuts, and nothing else, and the WORST PRESENTATION EVER! Initially Brian expressed enthusiasm at working with the cake/donut theme and assured us it was something they could do very well. I can't explain how HORRIBLE it was. Wixeys gets high ratings for their pastries but make sure you google Wixey Bakery and read reviews posted on all sites as they do get POOR REVIEWS a lot of times on their wedding cakes. Usually the complaint is not about the quality/taste of the cakes, but that they get it ALL WRONG as far as decorating and presentation and cake flavors not being what people ordered. We went with Wixeys because they are included in the package cost where we had reception. We could have gotten a credit and chosen any bakery in the city, but after meeting with Brian and Julie we felt confident that there was no need to look any further; that they were up to the task of creating a beautiful wedding cake/donut presentation for us. I highly suggest that you GO ELSEWHERE for your cake so that you won't have the same disappointment we did! I'm the mother of the bride who paid for the wedding reception/cake, so I contacted Wixeys on Oct 11, 2011. Barb answered the phone and I asked to speak to Julie. She said Julie was with a customer but would be available shortly so I agreed to hold on the line. The next thing someone else picks up the call and I ask if it's Julie; person states she's Denise Wixey. I said that I was holding for Julie. She said Julie was not working that day and that she could help me. I said that I had just spoken to Barb who placed me on hold to wait for Julie to finish with a customer. Denise again stated that Julie was not working and asked what she could help with. I explained the above and she immediately became defensive and rude, and referred to the order sheet that she had in front of her. (Obviously during the time that I was on hold Barb had told Julie why I was calling and Julie got Denise involved who pulled the order prior to answering my call.) After a few minutes of Denise almost becoming irate with me, she told me to hold so I could talk to Brian. Brian was very nice and acknowledged that Wixeys had failed us as clients on a very special day and also stated that by their poor presentation they had missed the boat on the opportunity to showcase their products on display at our reception. Brian assured me that he would take steps to rectify the matter through some form of compensation. I followed this phone conversation up with a letter to Brian that I hand delivered the next day in which I attached a picture of the PATHETIC cake/donut display and a copy of the very explicit email. Brian indicated that he would no longer speak to me until he had spoken to the bride and groom to get their feelings on the situation. I explained that I was taking care of this in their behalf since they were out of the country and, ultimately, I'm the one who paid for the reception so he really only needs to deal with me. The groom did make contact with Brian; we??ve never heard back from him. I seriously urge you to reconsider if you are planning to use Wixeys for your wedding cake because YOU WILL BE DISAPPOINTED!

Denise and her team helped plan our Wedding Reception and it turned out great. Instead of the traditional Cake we did Cup Cakes and had 6 different flavors and to add t that we did mini deserts also. This was a huge hit at the party and I could not have asked for anything more. Everything tasted great and looked even better.

Thanks Denise you made everyone happy:))

Having recently moved from San Diego, I was looking for a great bakery to purchase my husband's birthday cake from. A co-worker suggested Wixey and what a great suggestion it was. I had a great coupon which helped lower the price slightly. The cake was absolutely amazing from the filling to the frosting. The ladies in the bakery are so friendly. I even purchased a cherry turnover for my husband and some brownies. I highly recommend them for any occasion!

Just walk in the door of Wixey's and you'll be transported back to an old-fashioned bakery with glass windows filled with treats. The cakes are outstanding - so good, my daughter has "Wixey's Frosting" on her Christmas list! Great service, great atmosphere!

If limited to only one thing I cherished about Toledo, it would be a Wixey classic doughnut, the one with the brown roll topped with a subtle smear of white glaze filled with oozy - not thick - red jelly. I've searched for a duplicate, and there is none. It brings back best memories of the fifties when I lived in the neighborhood. My son-in-law just brought me three boxes of them, 18 in count, 3 dozen in reality because each one is worth much more than 2. If you're in Toledo, don't miss Wixey's and their classic doughnut. The best.

I have been going to Wixey's Bakery for the past 25 yrs. and their desserts are just as good now as they were then. I order their cakes for every occasion and they are always a huge success. I would recommend this bakery to anyone who is looking for good homemade baked goods.

Truly, I have traveled all over the United States and Europe and currently live in Asia, and Wixey's is really the best! The baked goods are scrumptious, and the bread tasty and fresh. I worked for Wixey's as a young girl, and am very happy that it is still a family owned business. My husband, kids, and I look forward to our visits home to Toledo for many reasons, and my whole family knows that Wixey doughnuts on Saturday mornings is one tradition we all love! Their cakes for special occasions are still beautiful and delicious. Visit and enjoy, you will not be disappointed.

This in my mind is one the best bakery still around. It has been around for a very long time, and has a huge selection of cookies, pastries, donuts, cakes, and pies. The brownies and elephant ears are very good! Price isn't bad either and the entertainment book has 50% up to $5!

PROS: good price, good selection
CONS:
