Half Price books. I took in 21 new hardback books. After I received a $2.00 estimate (for all 21), I asked for my books back. Guess what, their employee actually kept 2 books and then lied about it. I called his manager who backed him on his lie. I will never step foot in a half price book store again.

I recently visited the Half Price Books store on Colerain Avenue. I am an avid reader and so is my daughter. She had a number of books that she had read and whose storylines and plots she had outgrown. She's a huge fan of the Mary Kate and Ashley series so she was looking sell her books to purchase new ones. Of the 22 books she presented, she was offered a whopping $2.00 for them!.. I was very suprised at that offering. They had similar books on the shelf for 5 times that amount. And yes, they were of the same series. Yes I was able to find great deals on hardback fiction novels for myself many of which were NY Times bestsellers, but must say was very dissapointed at how little used books are valued when presented for sale. I know they have to make a profit, but considering her books were purchased at a large book retail store at full price and were still in "like new" condition, I expected more that just the $2.00 she was offered.
So, if you're in the market for good deals on buying then Half Price Books is the place for you. For those trying to sell, this may not be the best place. You could probably get more for them at a garage sale!

I took 50 plus books into the store and they only offered me .50 cents. As they were looking over my books I walked around the store and I did see some of the books that I was trading in. Once I got to the counter and they offered me NO money because they were not valuable and they would donate them. I said to them you already have some of my books and you still are not going to offer me anything? Yes is all they said. I told them to keep my books (because it was way to many to take out of the store) and to keep their 50cents. I will never go back to the store again.

Half Price Books is the best. Most of their books are half off of their retail prices and then they have a whole bookshelf full of clearance books from $1.00 to $3.00. The store is very cozy and the staff if helpful.
PROS: excellent prices
CONS: Staff can't look up inventory for you, or look up authors and titles
