My husband and I used Pillar to Post in Hillard, OH (Tim Buell) after he was referred to us. We were purchasing our second home and wanted to make sure we used a reputable inspector to insure if anything needed replaced or fixed we could bring them up with the sellers prior to closing and we wanted to make sure there wasn't anything that would be deal breakers (huge repairs) before purchasing the home. As everyone knows, when you're buying a house you're faced with a lot of expenses so having a certified inspector come out and inspect the new house was a no brainer for us. We did this with our first house and the inspector saved us a lot of money by having the sellers fix acouple things before we agreed to purchase the house. The $500+ dollars for the inspector was not an issue as peace of mind was more important to us.

Tim Buell came out, inspected our house, gave us a professional report. He answered all our questions and we thought he was great. We took the report, read it and found acouple things that we thought needed fixed before we'd close on the house. The seller fixed the items and we thought everything was great. We closed, and moved into our new home. After acouple days of being in the house, we noticed acouple hair line cracks in our showers (master bath and guest bath). Since they were small and the inspector didn't mention them in the report (we checked twice to be sure) we thought we'd do a simple repair our self using poxy. After the simple repair didn't work, we thought we should probably get this checked out by a professional as both bathrooms are on the second floor and we didn't want to deal with leaking. After having certified professionals come out, they said both showers would need repaired, including having a whole new bottom built using two layers of fiberglass and poxy paint, resulting in a charge of $525. We called Tim Buell and he said he'd come out to re-inspect his work. He said he didn't take pictures of either shower because he didn't see anything wrong in the original inspection. After coming out, he saw the cracks and told us basically they weren't there before when he inspected it. We just bought the house, so why would we do something to cause the cracks? And, I find it hard to believe that a certified professional inspector didn't see something that needs a whole new bottom of the shower including two layers of fiberglass.

We were in shock. We are honest people and know everyone makes mistakes, in this case Tim missed the cracks. Tim told my husband he would "start the process" whatever that meant. So we left him several messages after the professionals came out to fix our showers to see if he'd financially help with the costs to have them fixed. We didn't ask him to pay the full amount, however, after we paid him over $500 to inspect our house and because he missed these errors, we now have to pay $525 to have them fixed, therefore we thought he should at least cover some of the costs. After several unanswered messages, we received a letter yesterday stating he will not cover any of the costs. We were very disappointed and didn't think he handled this situation in a professional manner. His company is certified and E&O insured to cover themselves if they make these errors. Although we believe he was responsible for the mistake, he refuses to accept responsiblilty. I would NOT recommend using his services for your next home inspection as he might miss some major things and it will cost you money in the long run.
