A week before Christmas, we took our 1-year-old Siamese cat to the St.C. Animal Hospital for a couple minor problems. She had an eye infection and a sore on her neck that we'd been having problems with due to the fact she'd scratched it back open a couple times.

We received eye drops for the infection, but the doctor told us he was going to give her a shot to help the scrape on her neck heal. He did -NOT- tell us exactly what he was giving her. For the next week, our cat slowly lost energy. She was lethargic and no longer played, where before she'd been more full of energy than any animal I've ever known. It was hard to ever get her to sit still.

The day after Christmas, she died of a massive blood hemorrhage. Her blood clot had broken up and got caught in her bloodstream. We had to rush my mother's companion, in severe pain, to another hospital that morning just to have her put down. It was the only option at that point as she was beyond helping. It really tore a hole in our family during the Holidays.

What caused it? The fact that the vet working at St. Clairsville Animal Hospital gave our young cat STEROIDS, which is a huge red flag for any animal owner (especially cats!). He DID NOT warn us or the possible side effects. He DID NOT warn us of the danger it can pose to felines in particular. Our loss would have been completely preventable had there been any semblance of professionalism or accountability at this supposed place of business.

In short: Find another place to take your pets! This one isn't safe! Always make sure your vet explains EXACTLY what he's doing for your animals.

A month before Christmas I started to try and find a kitten as a Christmas present for my daughter. Somebody put me in touch with St Clair Animal Hospital as they heard they had some rescued kittens which needed homes. I rushed over and met our future family member who had received all her shots and also been neutered and then they very kindly agreed to board her for me for free for three weeks until Christmas. In the end I received all these services for a $50 adoption fee. We couldn't be more pleased with our beautiful kitten who was so obviously loved and taken great care of whilst she was with them. We will be forever grateful for what we see as a great gift to our family. I have only ever dealt with the office staff but have always found them very helpful and courteous.

I decided to write a review after searching the internet for all the local vet's numbers because I am calling to compare prices (as long as quality is not sacrificed) for our cat that needs a specific surgery. I was puzzled to see this vet had an overall high rating. I have helped many people/friends in my area spay or neuter their
pet(s) to help ease the continuing problem of overpopulation, and sometimes I will take in an animal in need...get it fixed and back to health then find her/him a good home. I've used many of the vets around here and most are great, caring and do a wonderful job. St. Clair Animal Hospital is not one I would recommend. Initially, I liked them when taking a dog in to get spayed but the next time I used them for a vet-check on an ill, emaciated stray, I found them to be rude and insensitive. I went in for a prescription with the purpose of using it at a highly reputable online pharmacy. They botched up the prescription and were extremely rude to the online company also. The company was shocked and told me they had never had a veterinarian act that way before. Please note, this was not the staff but the vet and his wife whom at that time (and may still) worked there also.

Needless to say, I had that particular dog spayed and treated at another vets office, and happy to say we found her an absolutely wonderful, forever home that keeps me updated on her status. Just thought I should give my experience because I wouldn't want the same thing to happen to someone else.

STAFF VERY NICE AND ACCOMMODATING but the Vets are arrogant. Vets need to understand they are treating a family member and stop being rude!!

They are amazing. I drove over 50 miles to take my pet there. I found out she had cancer and did everything they could to make it easier. They allowed me to say goodbye and hold her as they gave her the shot. They also gave me the option of whether or not to take her home and bury her. Then they made a clay pawprint of her with her name and the year on it. They also sent a sympathy card. They are absolutely great and I would take any pet there.

Myself and my family has taken our pets here for atleast 20 years. We've never had a problem and the prices were always fair.

Infact, last year I drove from Columbus, Ohio to this vet to take my dog to be neutered and to fix a hernia he had. This spring my girlfriend and I took our dogs there for their yearly checkup's.

I much perfer this vet to any of my local vets that I've came across.

Recently my daughter's Guinea pig became injured. We called this hospital because it is close to our home. They basically laughed at the idea of having someone look at our pet. They rudely told us we would have to find someone who deals with exotics. When we asked if they knew of someone, we were told there were numbers listed in the phone book. I found this person answering the phones to be cold and harsh. Were we the only ones that have ever called wanting to have a guinea pig looked at? I understand if they are not knowledgeable in that area, but there is such a thing as compassion. If I was in that situation I would make sure I could refer that potential customer to someone who deals with those kind of animals.I actually did find someone at a place called New Horizons in St. Clairsville and they couldn't have been any more helpful or courteous.

If you need to get your pet in for an appointment, they fit you in right away. The staff is very friendly and helpful. They are very kind to your pet, and take very good care of them. The doctor is very friendly and up front with everything. The place is very clean. They also have a pet store on premise and also do boarding for many animals.

My little friend (dog) has been going there for at least 6 or 7 years. Has had major surgery and came out just fine. I trust in the vet and know he has the experience and skills. Like everyone who works there, they are friendly. The prices are reasonable.
