On 1/25/12 I visited this Sparkle that I have been shopping at for the last 20 years. They had packs of veal patties advertised for 1.79 a pack. My four year old loves these so I went there to buy some. When I got to the shelf I noticed that all of the veal patties behind the sign that read "1.79" were gone. The chicken patties were there, the chicken nuggets were there, etc... as I started to walk away, I noticed that in a nearby meat case they had 2 packages of veal patties combined into one package for 5.00 a package. In other words, they had 2 packages of veal patties for 5.00. Apparently they had taken all of the veal patties from the 1.79 shelf that they had on sale, and repackaged them into packs of 2, to sell for 5.00. Hmmmm...... so in other words the veal patties that were on sale for 1.79 a pack could now be bought in packs of two for 5.00, which would then make each veal patty package 2.50 instead of 1.79 for a difference of .71 cents a pack, therefore I would have to pay 1.42 more for 2 packs combined versus if I just bought two packages separately. To me this seemed to contradict the sale price of 1.79 a pack! The two boys working in the back told me that they had no idea why this would be and so I asked them if they could please find out. They told me that they are choosing to sell them combined for 5.00 and that I could not have them for the sale price. When I went to check out I saw the manager standing up front at customer service. I walked over and began to ask him about the veal patties being on sale, when he stopped me in the middle of my sentence to tell me, "I am the one they called to ask for you about the veal patties and we are not going to sell them to you for the sale price. We are selling them combined so you can either buy them like that or you will have to wait until the truck comes in tomorrow and get the individual ones on sale tomorrow or the next day." Correct me if I am wrong but I do believe that customer service does not seem to be of much importance in this store. All I wanted was the veal patties for the sale price that was advertised, but instead I was treated rudely and told I could not buy them at the sale price even though they had the product in the store to sell. This was just the icing on the cake. One month prior to this, my family was in the store shopping. I was almost ready to check out when I realized that I had forgotten bread. My husband waited up front while me and my 4 year old daughter went back to get the bread. In the meantime, a different manager from the one last night came up to my husband and began questioning why he was in the store. He asked him if he was in there shopping or if he was waiting on someone. Let me note that my husband was wearing work clothes, which apparently made the manager think that maybe he had just come in to get warm? was a homeless person? I really don't know why my husband was questioned but my husband was quite embarrassed. This seemed to be discrimination due to how my husband was dressed. Clearly these managers in this store need some classes on how to provide customer service without insulting their customers who have been shopping there for 20 years. This behavior is ridiculous and I have learned my lesson. When I go to Rulli Brothers and Giant Eagle, they go out of their way to help me if I need anything at all, so that is where I will be doing my shopping from now on. Oh and just for the record, I am a 41 year old professional woman (registered nurse) with a 4 year old who goes to a very prominent school in the community, so I know a lot of people, people who will hear my story. Maybe when this store loses business they will learn some customer service skills.

This is one of the best full service grocery stores in this area. The selection of fresh produce is fantastic. The meats are also fresh and good. The shelf goods are all equally as good quality. And the prices are very reasonable. One thing I love about this store is that they don't limit you on the quanties you can buy of their on sale items. And when you are done shopping, they take your purchases to your car and load them in for you. What more can you ask for from a local grocer!!!
