Med Vet Associates is an expensive, but fine pet hospital. When my vet referred MedVets for surgery for our cat, I found these reviews on-line, and was surprised by the negative comments. I also talked to several friends who had used MedVets, and they all pretty much said it is a great place, but expensive. Yes it is expensive, but I've never dealt with a hospital, pet or human, that has not been expensive. Because my pet's was a referred appointment, there was no stress of an emergency, and for that reason, my experience was probably "easier." I got to meet three doctors, who explained the surgery, that it was not absolutely necessary but would be better, and gave me the options. All that for a $126 visit. They told me up front what the cost of the surgery would be if I chose my cat to have it, and what all would be involved. They left the decision up to us. We left, and then decided, knowing the expensive cost up front, to have the surgery. We were told the followup visits would be part of the explained cost, which they have been. Overall, we have been very pleased with MedVets, even with the expense of the surgery. Yes, we wish we had pet insurance like we have our own health insurance. Our cat's surgery was not cheap, but it was less than 1/3 the cost of a biopsy I had earlier this year, but my insurance covered 98% of that cost, while we had to cover the entire cost of the pet surgery. Cost is relative.

We've had three cats and a dog treated at MedVet for the following (1) heart murmur (cat and dog), (2) surgery (dog ACL), (3) opthamology (dog dry eye), and (4) neurology (dog with syringiomyelia/occiputal malformation)--plus several emergency visits. We have never been disappointed in the care they have received. The allergist did not recognize that our dog had occipital malformation, but that's not his field of expertise and we don't blame him for that. Our dog also is currently enrolled in a beta blocker drug study for his heart murmur (mitral valve prolapse) and continues to get excellent care. We are both retired and MedVet is one of the reasons we have decided not to move to the Pacific coast. I tend to wonder if the complaints I've read on here are largely the fault of the pet owners. No, they are not cheap--but if cheap is all you care about, don't go there!

My cat has had respitory issues since he was a kitten. Last year he was diagnosed with a sever heart murmur. I was sent to MedVet as a referal for cardiology. It is a 2 hour drive for me and is EXTREAMLY stressful for my cat. He screams for the entire drive. Once we arrive I am greated by freindly staff who are willing to call me on my phone while I sit in the car, because me and my care are exhausted from he drive. I never have to wait for a long period of time. It upsets me very much to leave my cat and the staff seem to be very understanding and caring. I like the professionalism of the staff and Dr Linda. There is no cure for my Mac, but they continue to try medications and to keep his breathing easy.
As far as the cost goes, yes, it is expensive and I feel that my Mac is worth every penny. The first time was more expensive because he was a new patient. The second time was much less, but even if it wasnot cheaper, I would have spent the money with love.
I think the MedVet family is well worth the cost and are kind to my Mac. Being responsible for an animal is not always cheap or easy. Mac loves me unconditionally and make me laugh daily. Thank you all for your help with Mac.I have not been to anyother major center to compare too, so thats why only 4 stars.

medvet saved my dogs life and would go back again! People complain of cost, but do you really feel your entitled to free or low cost treatment? That is the risk of owning a pet, they get sick and you, as the owner, are responsile for their care. You think it should be free? They offer financing from two large finance companies, which can be used at other places. Medvet and their staff are top notch!!

My dog was taken there late at night with a broken hind leg. That was Feb. 9th 2009. As of July 2009 and $7000.00 and up, they did a terrible job. He will most likely have to have his leg amputated or put to sleep. They make promises and then dropped us as clients. Oh yes we paid in cash.

I went to Med-vet Animal emergency when my Great Dane twisted his stomach . The staff at Med-Vet seem to really be concerned with my pet. The night we arrived, my pet's stomach was really big and he seemed to be in shock. The lady at the front desk called for someone to get my dog out of the car and was taken immediately to the back on a gurney. After he had surgery that night, i met with the emergency surgeon and made me feel calm and made sure to update me until my dog went home from ICU 3 days later. I truly believe that they give good quality care. The day i picked up my dog, they sent me home with release instructions, pain medication, and the doctor called me to check on him once we got home. My dog seemed to trust them too!
Evertime that I went back to medvet, I would only wait a few minutes and then they would come out for my dog. Then the technician will come out to greet me and take him back first to take his stitches out, then you are taken back to an exam room where you wait for the vet to arrive and talk to you about the recovery.
They also have complimentary coffee, and a nice lady that walks around checking on everyone while you they sit in the waiting room. There is also helpful information brochures around for you to read.
Overall, it's always been a pleasant experience whenever I've needed to go to MedVet. My dog seemed pleased too. Thank you to everyone at MedVet and for saving my dog from dying. I owe you his happiness.

my dog was sick for something he ate so i took him in thinking it would not cost much, boy was i surprised it would cost $1700 for overnight care and tests and told he would die if he did not stay, not having the money took the dog home after a couple of hour of being there, costing $520 for test and lab work which I never received the results and my dog was back to normal the next day

Last year my dachshund was diagnosed with a blood disease. After my local vet seemed to botch one visit up with the next, I ended up driving her to Ohio State University for her treatment. Unfortunately, she had a relapse over the weekend and I was unable to find a hospital equipped to do a blood transfusion.
This is when I met MedVet. The doctors did everything they knew how to do but her little body was just not up for it and they called me to tell me to come immediately.
Despite the cost that I 've read on so many of your posts, I ask you what is the price of your dog? How much should it cost to have a facility that is open 365 days a year with a 4+ years in addition to a doctorate degree trained doctor waiting to take care of your beloved pet? A facility that is equipped to do absolutely everything can't be cheap. How much precious time is wasted going from vet to vet to get this test done orwait on that test to get sent away to have the results days later? This sort of time isn't wasted at MedVet because they do it all right there and my dog didn't have that kind of time.
I would have taken out a second mortgage to save my beloved dog because there is no price tag on loved ones in my book. Believe me, I could have bought a used car for the cost of our bill. I'm not complaining because I know that facility saves many many lives and brings so much happiness to the families of the animals they are able to save. I feel awful sorry for everyone who took the time out of their shallow lives to complain about the cost of taking your vet to a state of the art Animal Hospital. Maybe you should find a better way of spending your precious time on this Earth instead of complaining.
Thank you MedVet for your facility. Thank you to the Doctors and staff who have to put up with people who don't want to pay up front because they probably never would have otherwise when they walked out the door. Thank you because that is keeping the cost down for everyone.

I am in from out of town so no regular vet. My dog was just diagnosed with a blood disease so every vet i called pointed me in the direction of medvet but i was warned of them being expensive having a very limited budget.$500 dollars later in just tests and a couple of meds later they wanted me to hospitalize her overnite. Not being an option seems how I had to apply for their credit card to pay the visit already at 21% interest which by the way can only be used at their facility.I took her home and was told their in house lab would not be able to get me results for a few hours and would be called as soon as they were done. Next day still no call. 24 hours later and 4 phone calls later the vet finally gets on the phone says she tried to contact me but my phone was disconnected.(all 3 numbers i left her). Also when I tried to get questions answered and files faxed to a different vet, it was a holiday weekend so guess what i got....... My advice, make sure your pet doesn't get sick on a holiday weekend.
