There are a few things I really like about Indian Oven.\r
\r
1. The food is outstanding. I have been to two other "Indian" resturaunts in Columbus and found IO to do a fantastic job delivering great food.\r
\r
2. The staff is fantastic.

I have been eating here since the mid 90's when it was at it's previous location. I have had every item on the menu multiple times. I have eaten at every other decent Indian restaurant in town. Some are close but none compare in consistency and quality or atmosphere.

I've recommended it anyone I know looking for Indian food and will continue to do so as long as they are in business.

The owner goes out of his way to make personal connections with everyone who comes in. There are some other nasty post on Citysearch about him and the restaurant that are obviously from angry or disgruntled people. It's sad to see others try to knock someone down when I know how untrue the statements are. These are cowards that should be looking to resolve their issues in person vs. cowering behind a computer and trying to ruin someone's reputation and business with their keyboard.

Can't say enough good things about the restaurant.

Most, if not all, upscale restaurants will not do separate checks for large parties, and shouldn't be expected to. Tacky.

The Indian Oven has amazing curries and fabulous naan. The portions are amazingly large. I have never been able to finish one. Absolutely authentic, and very consistent. The friendly and knowledgeable staff have always been more than adequate.

I have never had a bad experience there, lunch, dinner or carryout.

Have tried this restaurant a few time over the years because other recommended it. My only suggestions being - there are better Indian restaurants in town - eg Taj Palace, Bay Leaf, Udipi among others.

Feel sorry for the ones who love this place. They need more exposure or maybe they are being paid to write this review.

This place is great, takeout is excellent. I highly recommend the platters, both the vegetarian and non. The Navrattan Khorma is divine.

Because of the location, we make the mistake of giving this restaurant "one more try" at least once every 6 months. The meat is always dry. The chicken looks and tastes like it was purchased in pre-cooked packaging. Considering the high prices that they charge, you would think that everything would be made fresh. Half the time, we don't see the ingredients that are listed on the menu in the actual dish that is served. We won't be fooled again by the convenient location and will make the extra trek to eat at a good Indian restaurant.

My boyfriend and I eat a lot of indian food, at LEAST once a week. This place stinks. Let's start with the good things. The service was good. The hostess and servers seemed pretty nice. The restaurant seemed classy, but is that really needed with an indian restaurant? For the drinkers, there is also a pro-looking bar there.
Now onto the bad.
The Papadum was stale.
The food came out WAY too fast, which led us to believe our food wasn't actually cooked to order.
I ordered something that supposed had like lentil beans, onions, tomatoes, etc. in it. It sort of tasted like they were in there, but when i actually looked, there were just lumps of... stuff in it.
Food wasn't spicy enough. My boyfriend ordered extra spicy and i ordered spicy... we had to get extra chili powder.
The rice became mushy when mixed with the curry.
The naan felt like it came from the microwave
They charged us for extra rice. $2.50 extra per order! So it was 5 dollars extra for the both of us. I don't think we've been charged for rice at any other restaurants before.
The food wasoverpriced for the quality.

Don't bother with this restaurant. You'd have a very easy time finder a cheaper and more authentic restaurant than this place.

Indian Oven Review:

Bad
The food is not upto to par. Its not really a Authentic Indian Cuisine. The owner as well as the cooks are from Bangladesh. One thing which least impressed me was the rates. They are just in the business to make money. I have been to Indian restaurants all over the US as well as in London. The food is Average! But at the same time the Prices are just overrated.

Good
The service is good. The decor is modern looking. Established in the hear of downtown - safe place.
Looks better then most average Indian Restaurants.

Bottom line is Indian Oven is over priced. Food is not authentic Indian. Rest is upto the folks who would like to try something different and pay an exorbent rate for food which isnt the best in town

The owner's disgusting ! drunk & smelly only outdone by the nasty food he serves.
Murad is his name, ripoff is what he specializes in !
I saw him empty half eaten chutney from another table into the common chutney container in the kitchen , HEALTH CODE VIOLATION!
all dishes have the same curry base throw in the quick meat and voila food's ready, bottom rung food & taste.
The servers are courteous and friendly, nice decor and atmoshphre.
BUFFET definately overpriced for LEFTOVERS FROM LAST NIGHT ! totally worthless.
But way overpriced for NASTY JUNK FOOD!
Avoid at all costs, Columbus has many nice tasting Indian Restaurants AVOID THIS ONE IF YOU VALUE YOUR HEALTH AND PALLETE.

*WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE*
My friend is becoming a future bride and 12 of us (bridesmaids, siblings, friends) decided to go to Indian Oven tonight. We ordered the food, had our water's filled, everything was fine. I admit the atmosphere was pleasant. The food was tolerable, although some of the people did not finish their meal because they did not consider the food tasted authentic. We recieved our bill and a man at the register did not separate our checks. Everyone had to get up and go up to the register to pay for their meals separately. The man at the register was very rude, very disrespectful, and did NOT care about the customer. I quote "We do not have to say sorry to the customer" or "hm, well we usually have quality customers!" Unbelievable. The bride looked at the man at the register completely speechless. Thank-you Indian Oven for giving us a wonderful experience of disrespect and horrendous customer service.

The prices are expensive. Do not go to Indian Oven. If your friend is planning on having dinner at Indian Oven, advice him/her not to go. Not worth the trouble and not worth arguing with the manager because they will not apologize and nor will they (manager, waiters/waitresses) respect you. Ever heard of customer??s come first? Give customer??s respect no matter what? I guess not.

Food is one of those things I won't think twice over spending large amounts of money on it, so long as it's good. Unfortunately Indian Oven's buffet + Mango Juice wasn't worth the $14 bill and tip. For me, a buffet consists of a wide selection of the restaurant's style and ethnic taste and should be a focus for the owner. Instead, the buffet appears to be an after-thought, tucked away in the corner with only 3 curry dishes and some chicken & rice, all of a similar bland palate leaving those desiring spice and flavor wanting more.

The owner should have had a solid concept for the food and recipes before he spent so much time picking out the lighting and glass.

All of it topped with only mediocre service means I will be looking elsewhere to fulfill my Indian cravings.

I travel alot and frequently seek out Indian 'cause it's one of my all time favorites. This was the worst I've ever had: 1. Papadum (grattis) was stale (soft). It's supposed to be crispy and was not served with a plum sauce which is traditional. Veg samosa was dry and basically stuffed with 99% potato, and not spicy at all. Lastly, the Murg Makhani was horrendous. The sauce tasted like a can of Texas Pete's Chili sauce. Very vinegary and salty (uck!!!). And the "tandoori" chicken that was served in the dish was cubed and dry. I asked for the sauce to be "medium" hot. Waitress warned me that it would have a definite kick. Well, there wasn't even the SLIGHTEST hint of hotness in this "medium" hot dish. This wasn't even what could be considered "mild". And cubed chicken?? Come on. That's the worst possible food presentation... The only positives were the attentive staff, Kingfisher beer and the basmati rice!! That's worth 1 star.

I came here with my family for a birthday celebration. It was the worst. Since it was a Sunday night, I have the feeling that they served us leftovers. The food was crusty, cold and simply gross. Normally I would be upset by the small portions, but thank god the portions were small, otherwise the heartburn would have been much worse. I ate only because I was starving.
The prices were ridiculous considering the small portions. I'm not sure if they do this at every Indian restaurant, but they charged for the bread (nan) which was the only edible thing there was so we ordered a bunch of it. Believe the bad reviews about this restaurant and don't do what I did- pray that the good ones were true. The owners probably wrote them!!!

What a disapointment...where do I start? The decor is not very fitting for an Indian restaurant and makes the place look and feel more like a Chipotle. We ordered the appetizer but it took forever to get this to us. The waitress explained that our order "got lost in the shuffle". We ordered the Tandoori Combo Platter, which was a plate full of Tandoori Chicken and Shrimp. It was ok, but not like the description at all. The food was so dry that we had to order a plate of dal makhani because we needed something with gravy. What a mistake!!! The dal makhani tasted horrible--more like old, watered-down, lentil soup. (I'm Indian, i've been eating this food since i was born and have never tasted dal makhani so bad). As if this wasn't bad enough, the restaurant charges $1.50 for a side of "Mango pickle". This is a standard side dish that should come with every Indian meal (we also had to ask for some lemon, which should also come with the chicken). As a comparison, this would be like Taco Bell charging for its hot sauce. Ridiculous. So all in all...bad decor, bad food, bad service, and overpriced. I'd stay away.

Oh, and if you do choose to go, make sure you have plenty of pepto-bismol handy at home...you'll need it. :-(

My wife and I love Indian cuisine and Indian Oven did not disappoint. I actually lowered my standards upon entering the place because it did not feel like normal Indian restaurants. I am use to seeing an all-Indian staff which this place did not have. At first, I wasn't expecting too much but I was very impressed with the food. The Samosas were some of the best I have had in the Columbus area. I ordered Lamb Spinach and my wife ordered Mughal Biriyani which left both of us happy with our order. I ordered my dish, hot, which was against the advice of the waitress but it was about perfect. Not too spicy where I have to drink water after every bite but it was spicy enough to leave a desire for ice cream to curb the feeling on my lips and tongue.

My wife and I went to the Indian Oven for the first time for dinner last night. The ambience was bright and cheery, and very upbeat. The service was impeccable. The food was very authentic, presented very well (in a rather short order to be exact), and the extremely good. The overall experience was outstanding. Everyone who enjoys good Indian cuisine should definitely give the Indian Oven a try.

I eat indian food EVERY day in NYC. Let me tell you, this isn't indian food.

I ordered a dish that was to include spinach or mustard greens in it, that was to be the main ingredient, along with indian cheese. I wasnt even sure if they put the mustard greens in it. I expected it to be green in color, but it was red--VERY strange and totally different from the norm. I think the cheese was improperly prepared, probably not properly cooked.

I asked for the dish to be spicy, because I can handle alot of spice. They made it spicy to the extent where I couldn't even taste the food. Sure, I ate it all, but that level of spice just over powered the food, but perhaps that was okay since in actuality, maybe it covered up the real flavor of the food, which was pretty tasteless.

I have been here numerous times, because I love Indian, I am new to Columbus and we live really close to this place. The service varies, when I have noticed the service is better when dressed in a dressy casual attire. I don't like the fact that I ordered the vegetarian platter and needed more rice and they charged me for that. Sometimes the spices seem "off" like it is just super hot without the savory taste in indian dishes. Now I have found other Indian restaraunts I prefer and will probably not be back.

My wife and I have ordered takeout from here more often than I can remember... dining there has been wonderful, too. While the price may seem a bit higher than others, the portions and quality make up the difference.

The atmosphere is great and service is always terrific.

We've dined here several times and I think that the owner has done a good job of tapping into "neauvou" indian cuisine: not real indian, poor integration of spices, small portions and relatively overpriced.

While we enjoy fine restaurants, I am not overly impressed by this establishment or believe that it is worth the price. The ambience is, indeed, nice and it's nice to have a full bar, but again, not enough to compensate for the very average cooking.

This is the first indian place that I thought was very bland and the first time I've ever been served pita bread, which was poorly attempted to be passed as roti....

Indian Oven is unlike any other restaurant. My girlfriend and I have gone a couple times to the restaurant and many many times before they moved to Main Street. During our last two visits we had the lunch buffet and they were both grrreeat. Although the buffet is a little pricey, we were very satisfied (thanks to the very attentive owner who always makes a dining experience at Indian Oven very pleasant!)

From it's humble beginings in the Campus area, the Indian Oven is a staple of "comfort food" for me and my family. The new location offers a well-stocked bar, attentive service, eccletic ambiance and (as always) freshly prepared, delicious authentic Indian food. Must haves: vegetable pakoras, Dall soup and the chicken mahkni. Goes great with a Grey Goose Cosmo!

My friends and I have been loyal followers of "the lovin'" since the early days at Patterson and High. Back then, Murad used to wait every table in the restaurant himself! The food was great then and it is great now - except now, he has a splendid new location and a full bar.

You will be blown away by the atmosphere - which does not by any means follow typical Indian restaurant decor. Murad is always walking around talking to people making you feel welcome reminiscent of a custom you would happen upon in a family-owned Italian restaurant in New York City. You will find something truly unique and worthy of attention at Indian Oven. I highly recommend it. We always keep an eye on the menu at indianoven.com and sometimes even get carry-out! Mmmmmmm...

You will find something truly unique and worthy of attention at Indian Oven. I highly recommend it. We always keep an eye on the menu at indianoven.com and sometimes even get carry-out! Mmmmmmm...

Pros: Great food, Great atmosphere, Off-street parking

.

This is a nice restaurant but the food is not the Indian that I like. I don't know if it is from a different region or was not authentic. It was good food but it wasn't really my idea of Indian food. It was a little overpriced and the drinks are VERY expensive. However the decor is wonderful.

Had department christmas lunch today - all diners were very pleased with taste of food and level of spiciness. (One diner said "It's refreshing to go to a restaurant that actually makes spicy food when you ask for spicy food!") Buffet was very good - 2 meat dishes, 2 veg dishes, rice pudding; naan pan was constantly being refilled. Other diners were pleased with their dishes and all were full and satisfied.

The food was anything but authentic Indian. Prices were high and portions were very small. The only good thing about this place is the Decor.

I have dined at Indian Oven several times, and each time, I have a fantastic meal. The owner is friendly, greeting each customer and then checking when the meal comes to ensure your satisfaction.

The selection was adequate, and I feel reasonably priced. The location is in an up-and-coming part of town, sure to be booming in a short amount of time.

First time visisting this restaurant...the atmosphere was OK...but the food was not what I expected. One of the dishes I had ordred, was the Alu Gobi, and the potatoes were not even cooked...Once was enough for me...will NOT be returning.
