Unless you are a snub-nose, it does not get better than this one! Been sailing 65 years, and have seen a lot. Short and Sweet. Capt. Tony

The Edgewater Yacht Club (EWYC) is a full service club offering a unique blend of good facilities, strong membership, world class sailboat racing program, great location, and relatively low costs. For example, EWYC has been successfully hosting the annual Cleveland Race Week every June since the early 1970s. This event is described on the EWYC web site. It attracts over 1,000 participants. Race Week requires a tremendous amount of time, money, and organizational skill to host. No other yacht club in the Cleveland area hosts a sailing event of such complexity and scale.

Features of EWYC.

1. Ease of Access

Although it is located on the near west side of Cleveland, the club draws members from Akron, Brecksville, Canton, Chagrin Falls, Canton, Cleveland Heights, Eastlake, Gates Mills, Hudson, Mentor, Pepper Pike, Shaker Heights, Solon, South Euclid, University Heights, and other eastern and southern areas as well as Avon, Bay Village, Berea, Lakewood, Medina, North Olmsted, North Ridgeville, Strongsville, Rocky River, and Westlake on the west side. Of course many members live in Cleveland itself. The club is easy to get to.

2. Clubhouse

The clubhouse is not as fancy as a couple of others in the Cleveland area. However it does have a white table cloth dining room, a bar, meeting rooms, locker rooms, washers, dryers, and a patio with a view of downtown Cleveland. The Clubhouse is open for full service dining 11 months a year. The prices for meals and drinks are moderate.

3. Edgewater Park

The Club is right next to Edgewater Park, which has a nice beach and a fishing pier.

4. Pavillion

The Club has its own picnic area with a pavillion, grills, a childrens play area, and great views of Lake Erie

5. Access to Lake Erie & Harbor

From the time you cast off you can be on Lake Erie in less than five minutes. The Club's lagoon has direct access to the five mile long inner harbor of Cleveland.

6. General Facilities

The Club's website lists out the facilities available.

7. Summary

I have 20 years boating experience. I have visited 60 clubs on the Great Lakes, British Virgin Islands, California, Florida, Mozambique, New Jersey, Puerto Rico, South Africa, and Texas. All-in-all EWYC offers outstanding value for money!

Great club. While the club isn't as "upscale" as some of its local competetors, its a fine place to become a member of. The docks are outstanding, the bar fabulous, and its location cannot be beat. A real friendly crowd.
