Mama Santa is the kind of place you imagine would be in a small village in Italy. Their homemade pasta is just that, homemade, at lunch you can hear them cutting it in the kitchen. Recommend their Cavatelli, Meatballs and Antipasta

I think the pizza here is great. I'm not the kind of person that craves italian food all the time, but there are times when all I want is a slice of pizza...ok maybe two slices of pizza. Inevitably I end up getting pizza here. I can't give

When this thing came to my table, I must admit I wasn't very impressed with the way it looked, and I really wasn't expecting it to taste any better. By my second bite, I was hooked. I sat there and ate 6 pieces because I simply could not stop. I have had authentic New York Sicilian pizza and this is the next best (if not better) thing!

I drove from North Ridgeville because of all the accolades of Mama Santa's pizza. I was disappointed. The pizza crust was a bit dry, the toppings were fairly sparce and not even close to fresh...had to be canned/dehydrated/frozen. I left with a taste of Lipton's Onion Soup Mix in my mouth! After 2 pies, 2 Pepsi's, 2 beers, the total was $50.05 and I could of got better from Georgios, 2 12packs of Pepsi, and a 12 of adult suds for the same price and not had to squeeze my (already small) car into a door ding mill of a parking place or pay a tip.

That being said, the wait staff was top notch and attentive. Kudos waitstaff!

I'd pass on Mama Santa's....IMHO!

Pros: Traditional almost to a cliche atmosphere

Cons: Pizza quality that of a chain store

On faithful insistence of friends who are Mama Santa?s fans, I gave Mama Santa?s pizza three separate tries. Unfortunately, three strikes.

As an enthusiast who has tried thin crust pizza at over 100 purveyors (NO chains, please) in numerous states, I found Mama Santa?s pizza experience lacking in several key elements. First, their crust, sauce and cheese just lay limp and sloppy without integration to blend flavors. Second, the sauce is deficient of pleasing subtle spices, failing to entice my palate to the next bite. Third, the decor is badly dated, but no so as to be delightfully kitschy, just bad. Lastly, the service is, at best, adequate, absent of personality or charm that would draw me back. All this in an otherwise wonderful Italian area of Cleveland!

On a personal note to reviewer DeathDealer9: For a restaurant review site to develop and sustain credibility, it must include all critiques, even those that disagree with our own tastes and experiences. To do otherwise would be disingenuous. Similarly, to maintain integrity, the review site must reject obviously biased puff praise from insiders and false damnation from competitors.

May Mama Santa?s fans continue to enjoy what they have come to prize. As for me, I will continue to seek a better Cleveland pizza.

Cons: Limp, weak-tasting pizza. Hideous decor.

First off you Haters, Shut The F*** up. I've had the pizza many times there, and I Know its some of the best around. Key word there is Some; and by many i mean more then 50. Sorry to be so openly mouthy but seriously, all you supposed "pizza connoisseur's" give me a break; Just try and tell me that some of your favorite pizza you've had only once in your life. Not Gonna Happen. You have to have it more then once if not just to make sure. Point being, Try it again, Then again, a good judge takes in more then one perspective. As for service, in any place of business one should know that not every single server is going to be bright and jolly; and time frame, well if your there on a Friday Or Saturday, I'd like to see you serve people faster then them. Going back to you pizza connoisseur's just shut up pizza is pizza and not eveyone has your taste in it so don't try to speak for everyone, and stop f***ing posting that s*** like your some hot shot know it all.

Pros: If i could rename the Large pizza it would show up on the menu as "Delicious" THe rigatoni, spagetii and stuff are good too, all of witch are Cheep

Cons: Dumb customers Makeing STupid reviews

My husband I drove from Mayfield Heights to Little Italy (about 8 miles) to sample the supposedly best pizza in Cleveland. What a disappointment! I wish I would have read the above reviews before we set out for the evening. The crust was thin with a very bland flavor, a little dry. There was VERY little pizza sauceon it, so it lacked any flavor there. I ordered mushroom and green pepper toppings for 1.25 each. The mushrooms were canned and there were very few pieces of green pepper on it. The cheese they use is obviously a very cheap kind because as I am sitting here typing this, I have terrible gas from it! Our dinner was $36 (before tip) and consisted of 2 dinner salads (iceberg lettuce with shavings of carrot, 2 very small pitted black olives, 1/2 very small cherry tomato and bland italian dressing), medium pizza w/2 toppings (as above), mushroom fettucine (again, canned mushrooms), 1 glass of chianti ($6 and was good) and 1 glass of water. My husband enjoyed his fettucine dish dispite the canned mushrooms. Overall, it was not worth the drive for very mediocre food. We won't be back unless they revamp the food quality.

My sister came to visit one weekend and we decided we wanted really good pizza, and I had seen that Mama Santa's was always mentioned when people taked about great pizza in Cleveland, so we decided to try it. The crust was really good, super crispy, but the overall taste was just ok. Maybe the pasta is better (seemed to see more people eating it), but our food wasn't anything great. It was the some of the greasiest pizza I've ever seen, but that didn't seem to affect the taste for better or worse. The other big thing that bothered us was that they only give you one free refill on soft drinks, which are served in really little glasses. I don't drink a lot of pop normally, but I really like it with pizza, so I wasn't really a fan of that policy. Our waitress was really friendly, but the our impression of the service overall at the restaurant wasn't that great. We decided next time we'd just go to Donatos.

I'm originally from Cleveland but now live in Palm Springs, Ca. There is not one place that has homemade and authentic tasting pizza here in Palm Springs like Mama Santa's. I am forever dreaming of the pizza from there and everytime I return home I must have it!

The pizza at Mama Santa's is some of the best I've ever had, but our waitress was terrible. It took 10 minutes for her to take our drink order and another 10 minutes to bring the drinks. After my wife and I where clearly done with our pizza our waitress was no where to be found. We had to ask another waitress to find her, and when she couldn't they other waitress had to bring us our check. My advice is to get the pizza to go.

I was told this place had the best pizza in Cleveland. I was shocked by what I actually got. It was overcooked, even black on some parts. Even if it was fine the service leaves a lot to be desired. Service is indifferent to say the least. Everyone is pretty brusque and unfriendly, almost like they don't care if you come back or not. Don't worry, I won't. Soda is served in a small glass at $1.30 and no refills! It comes across as very cheap on their part. Stick with the free water they give you. To top it off they overcharged me when I used my debit card to pay.

Good pizza and manicotti. Stay clear of the lasagna. Decor a little tacky. Service is inconsistent- sometimes efficient and friendly, other times slow and a tad bit rude.

This place is actually very tasty. By no means upscale, but the pastas are fresh and the pizza crisp. The toppings on pizza are canned, or dehydrated onions, but with the homemade sauce and crust it comes out much better than expected- much better than any delivery joint.
We've had pizza, salad, garlic toast, and a couple of past dishes. All very simple but tasty, surprisingly so. And very inexpensive, a dinner for 2 with drinks is around $20.
The space has weird green, or flourescent lighting, and it's cramped, without windows, without much decoration, leaving a feeling of claustrophobia. But once the food comes nothing else matters.
Very casual, expect waits on weekends. Bottled beers (Peroni is good), and a small selection of wines.
I really like this place, the flavors and price are great. Its sickening people drop $11 or more a plate at sub par places like Olive Garden, when there are places like this, cheaper and so much more tasty.

I'll won't dwell on the negatives about the space others have brought up. Yes, the 2 person tables against the wall are not for the claustrophobic or large of build.

We purposely went at lunch due to the other reviews. The thing that ticked me off the most was, no soap in the bathrooms, just a half hour after opening. Don't they service it overnight?

Wait service was OK, but then they weren't busy. The pizza was good. I don't like burned food, so I was tempted to ask fro underdone as others mentioned, but decided to leave it in their hands, and it was fine. The cheese did appear a little dark, but tasted fine, and the crust was not burned at all.

The crust was excellent. The sauce was average. The toppings were good. The best in Cleveland? I don't see what was so special about it. Pizza is my favorite food, and I've eaten it all over the US. I've gotten pizza of this quality or better at many places in my opinion. I'd get it again if I lived close, but I don't. I won't make another trip for it.

We went to Mama Santa's because so many people in CLE seem to think it's "the" place for Italian/pizza. I can't imagine ever going back.

1. Service was incredibly slow although they weren't busy. However, we weren't in a hurry and just relaxed and enjoyed a beer while we waited. No problem so far.

2. The salad with house dressing was a small amount of iceberg lettuce with very little else on it. The dressing tasted bottled and bland. Not impressed yet, but we came for the pizza, so no problem.

3. When the pizza finally arrived, it was burned. Not just charred on the bottom, which I look for and like. The entire thing was brown and black. When we questioned the server we were told we should have ordered it "undercooked" if we didn't want it burned. What?? You're supposed to know that burnt pizza is the standard? And why would it be? Because....

4. The pizza tasted like burned food. Period. No cheese flavor, no sauce flavor, just burned food flavor. This, they get rave reviews for?

5. We talked to the host/owner (not sure which or both), who also told us we should have ordered it undercooked if we didn't want it black. This didn't make sense to me then and still doesn't.

6. They finally removed the cost of the pizza from our tab, which is the only positive experience of the night and was due us because we didn't eat it except to taste it.

7. Although we tried to approach the problem with friendliness and courtesy, we were talked to with disdain and disrespect.

Mama Santa's was the second-worst pizza I've ever had (the first was in college and tasted like things I'm too polite to mention here). I'd rather eat frozen pizza than go there again. We're continuing our search for good Italian food and won't waste our money at Mama Santa's again.

Although known for their relatively inexpensive prices, Mama Santa's is not the place to go if you are use to decent customer service. I have gone to Mama Santa's on several different occasions, and the sevice is consistently poor. First of all, Little Italy doesn't quite accomodate those who drive, thus parking is always a hassle. Second, expect to wait a long time to be seated, which is especially true on Friday or Saturday nights. When you finally get seated, it might take a while for the server to come to your table to take your order, and when he/she comes to your table, be ready to place your order immediately, or else you may not see your server for quite a while. The food itself, which also is slow to arrive, is o.k., but is no where near stellar and certainly not worth the aggravation, for there are many other better Italian eateries in the area, especially for pizza, which for some strange reason (other than price) they are known for. The atmosphere of the restaurant itself is small and very dimly lit (on purpose?), similar to an old house's cellar. Finally, in order to leave and pay for the meal, you have to be very aggressive in flagging down the server to get his/her attention to get the bill. Overall, given the quality of both the food and service, I would strongly not recommend Mama Santa's, unless you enjoy waiting a long time in a dungeon-like place for average/sub-par food.

Mama Santa is definitely a good value. The prices are cheap and the food is decent. The previous poster called it a "small and intimate" restaurant, but really it would be more accurate to call it "cramped and cave-like." The tables are packed tightly together and there are no windows. But no one goes to Mama Santa for the atmosphere or service. If you go expecting cheap pizza and pasta, you won't be disappointed.

Like the title suggests, people seem to love one or the other of these rival pizza shops in the Little Italy neighborhood. For me, Mama Santa is the winner...hands down!!! I have tried Valentino's a few times and found it to be drastically overpriced considering it tastes like frozen pizza. If you like the bland, flat, stone oven type of pizza, you may be happy. I'll eat anything and I LOVE pizza, but Mama Santa's sauce makes this a no contest. Plus, Valentino's is more than double the price for a large pie. While the service is typically unfriendly at Mama Santa, especially the girls behind the counter...you'll be happier with the food.

Don't believe me??? Case Western students have created an online group on Facebook entitled: "Mama Santa's Has Taken the Place of Religion In My Life." Yes...it's that good!

Mama Santa's is a prefect example of why you can't believe everything you read! It was the worst Italian food we have ever tasted! We LOVE good Italian food & we're not some picky yuppie couple that only eats in 5 star restaurants. We've eaten some great food at places many would consider a dive. And we take these reviews seriously. When the food & service is good we say so & do same when its bad.

When planning a trip to Cleveland we saw a chance to enjoy some fine Italian dining. More research showed that Mama Santa's had received many awards & rave reviews. Our advise for visitors to the Little Italy section concerns parking. For $2 plus tip use the valet parking.

We arrived at 7:30 and found a line but got a table for 2 in about 10 min. Not bad. We both decided on Lasagna & had to wait about an hour for our meal. But we hoped the good food would make up for the wait. The first problem we noted while waiting was that our meal didn't include a salad. Our waitress had failed to mention that when we had ordered. No problem! We had read that Mama's was known for MONSTER sized platters of pasta, spaghetti, ect. WHAT A JOKE! When the waitress set our meals down, we looked at each other like "What the heck is this?" There was a thin layer of lasagna about 4" x 6" and a basket of plain, dry French bread. No tasty garlic bread in this joint.

We were expecting layers of lasagna noodles oozing cheese, meat & sauce with every bite. Saying it was 1 1/2" thick is probably overstating it! Its hard to describe the taste as there just wasn't any. Just a bland tasting pile of mush with a sauce that was equally as bland. Any meat was ground so fine you couldn't taste it. Same with the cheese. It reminded me of the nasty lasagna you would get in one of those cheap TV dinners.

2 lasagna dinners 1 iced tea & 1 Coke = $22.00. And that doesn't figure in the tip & parking. Or the fact that we had to stop at McDonalds later that evening as we were still hungry!

Thank you to the fans of Mama Santa's...This visitor was craving good pizza...Got on the internet, found reviews of this place...Found the place after taking a couple of wrong turns, got lucky and got a parking space in back...Walked in and proceded to "eat silly"...I do love pizza, I was so tempted to order an Extra Large Pizza, and then take 3 more back to hotel...The crust, sauce and the service was phenomenal...If business takes me back to Cleveland, I will be back to Mama Santa's, first I will starve for a week; so I have more room in my belly...

Mama Santa's is, by far, my favorite restaurant. When I read the negative reviews I just don't understand. It's true italian food and it's a great value too. I don't get down to Little Italy very often, but when I do you can bet you'll find me at Mama Santa's!

Went to Mama's for our daugthers fourth birthday lunch on a Saturday. We were seated right away and had wonderful service and great food. Ordered pizza (awesome), spaghetti (great sauce) and chicken cacciatore (touch dry on the white meat, but great flavor overall). GREAT place for kids. Would recommend to anyone with kids. Now I know why they are rated best pizza in town. Try for yourself!

I live in Little Italy and you could not pay me to eat at Mama Santa's! The service is beyond lousy. Once I ordered a salad, and for a little flavor, they threw in an ant. Yum! Of course the miserable people that they are, they did not even offer to take it off the bill. The pizza is so loaded with grease, I always get diarehha after I eat it. Finally, I tried the pasta there. I threw up after I got home. The sauce was burned and I think the sausage was undercooked. When I walk by Mama Santa's, I always chuckle at the fools waiting in line to get into the place. There are a few other places in the neighborhood to get pizza that won't give you the trots and the staff will actually be nice to you! Keep walking get out of line, so not worth the wait! Oh and the staff need to stop stuffing ballot boxes when it is time to vote for best pizza in Cleveland.

10 years ago when I was in college in this area we would walk miles to get this pizza. Now, I'd drive miles to get this pizza. The ambiance of Little Italy is always a treat, and this pizza is really the best this area has to offer. The prices are not outrageous, and the service is nice.

The first time I went to Mama Santa's, I had heard all of the hype, and after I ate the pizza, frankly, I was less than impressed. In fact, I wasn't sure I liked it at all.

However, after repeated dinners and pizzas, the Sicilian taste has really grown on me, and it's one of my favorite pizza joints now, and certainly one of the cheapest. Give it a try, and I can't imagine you'll end up being disappointed. As an ajoinder, the pizzeria atmosphere is great for the kids.

After hearing about the award-winning pizza, I expected something great, but I was sorely disappointed. The service was unattentive and it took nearly an hour for our burnt pizza to arrive.

It's cheap; you get what you pay for.

I've had Mama Santa's pizza on more than one occasion and I can not understand why it wins Best Pizza year after year. They must pay their employees to get on the computer and vote for it. I've tried cheese, pepperoni, sausage, deluxe. No flavor. The price is reasonable, but there's no taste. The sausage...blech. Maybe an onion and mushroom would be ok, but I don't even like the crust. Well anyway, you can keep voting for this pizza every year and embarrass Cleveland pizza parlors everywhere. I'm still in search of the perfect pizza.

WELL FOLKS

THE PIZZA AT MAMA SANTAS IS GREAT BUT WHEN ITS BUSY IT TAKES A LITTLE LONGER. SO WHAT GET OVER IT THE PRICES ARE A BARGAIN THE HOME MADE PASTAS ARE FANTASTIC. WHY NOT SIT BACK AND ENJOY LIFE A LITTLE BITE WHATS THE RUSH. YES THE SERVICE IS SLOW AT TIMES SO WHAT. SURE U CAN GET BETTER SERVICE SOME WHERE ELSE. BUT HOW IS THE FOOD AND HOW MUCH DOES IT COST. IF U WANT 4 STAR SERVICE GO TO A FOUR STAR RESTURANT AND PAY FOUR STAR PRICES. ITS LIKE THEY SAY IF THERE IS NO LINE THE FOOD MUST NOT BE VERY GOOD.

I have been all around the country and when I moved to Cleveland I heard how great their pizza is, and when went, I thought it was terrible. I've worked in the food industry for many years, so I did give it a second and even a third chance. I would rather eat a frozen pizza at home. I have eaten at most of the pizza places on the top 10 and would reccommend any of them over Mama Santa's.

Mama Santa's is a staple in Cleveland and for good reason. The pizza is sicilian-style and amazing, probably because of the care these people put into making a delicious pizza. Does that mean you'll wait 20plus minutes for the pizza to bake? You bet- but it's well worth it. While you wait, order an appetizer or one of the tasty seasoned salads. Combined with the bread you'll receive, it'll tide you over. I've been going here for several years- since I began college in the area. Great for discerning college students on tight budgets, but delicious for all!

My one and only experience with Mama Santa's was pretty lousy! I expected a long wait, but while my food came in a fairly reasonable amount of time, my friend's pizza never did! When we asked about the pizza, the waitress was surly and rude, then she failed to come around at all. We waited a full 35 minutes after MY dinner arrived (which,by the way was mediocre at best) before calling the whole thing a wash, paying for the food we actually got, and leaving. Will probably not go back.

Mama Santa's located in Little Italy in Cleveland is always busy for a reason - the pizza is excellent, the pasta is wonderful, and the prices can't be beat. They do a huge carry-out business, particularaly when the Browns or Ohio State has a big game, so I don't recommend dining in during those times (we did once during a huge OSU game and waited an hour for our pizza).

PROS: food; price
CONS: slow service during busy carry-out times

The one knack people have on this place is the service, well deal with it. The last time I was in the joint I waited only 20-25 minutes for my food, and a little longer for the pizza, and thats because it was a Friday night. The majority of bad reviews I read are normally from people from the Westside, and I mean the far Westside like Westlake. What do the majority of these yuppies know about real Italian food, not a darn thing. For someone to say that the atmosphere is lacking, well then you obviously have never been to a real Italian Ristorante in Italy. They are not these lavish stuffy, snobbish type places you are all used to. The food at Mama Santas is eccellente.

My husband and I love to visit the Little Italy section of Cleveland, and Mama Santa's is a must stop for us each time. The restaurant is small and intimate, everything is excellent right down to the warm bread at the beginning of each meal! The food is wonderful, the staff is always friendly and quick with service, the prices are very reasonable. Mama Santa's is a great value for your money! Highly Recommended!

Mama Santa's has the best food in Little Italy, hands down. The homemade pastas are amazing. The pizza is very good and the wine is good and cheap. But, it's a neighborhood place, and it's definitely not for everyone. Some people expect a wider selection of beers, and a brighter interior. I like the "home-like" atmosphere of Mama Santa's. But some people won't appreciate it. The waitresses get busy as does the kitchen and people dining there should expect it to get busy and to do a bit of waiting. If that's not your scene, I suggest you try a chain or a different restaurant. But, if you're looking for fantastic food at an inexpensive price, and you don't mind the wait, consider Mama Santa's. It's not highly rated because of the atmosphere, but because of it's incredible food and value.

We have been to Mama Santa's many times over the years. I have to say that overall, they use to be much better than they are now. Recently we took our children there for dinner. The pizza was so hard and black on the bottom that my two year old would not have even been able to chew it. The waitress was slightly annoyed that we asked to send it back. The second time around the pizza was much better. My husband's pasta was average. I love the area and think Mama's is a nice place and I take no joy in giving a lukewarm review. I just prefer Trattoria.

after a very long 45 min wait, the pizza looked and tasted like burned carboard! After leaving it pretty intact except for 2 small leftover bites...the owner claimed it as his own dinner and that it was the same wonderful pizza as always. BULL.....I have eaten there since the 60's when it was the best....shame on me...how dare I complain. Hey, I even put up with the lousy service all of these years.
