From January through June 2013, I had substantial work done by McCluskey on my 2002 Prizm, much of which involved the electrical system. On June 21, the car broke down. McCluskeys technician claimed this was due to another electrical problem.
I was charged $845.75 for six hours of labor to check the electrical system and replace a circuit board. The car was in the shop for a full week during which time I had to rent a car. While the car was in the shop, I was unable to get straight answers about what the problems was or when the work would be finished. I was planning to drive to Virginia on June 29 and repeatedly asked McCluskey to do a safety check to ensure that the car was safe to drive. On that day, the technician assured me the car was safe, but while driving to Virginia I found numerous problems that did not exist before McCluskey worked on the car, including a broken headlight, non-functioning dashboard illumination and warning lights and dangerous handling due to vibration in the steering. I was unable to continue driving after dark. In Virginia, I took the car to a shop I had patronized when I lived there. The owner of the shop informed me that the electrical system had been badly damaged by an incompetent mechanic. I had to pay $1027.49 to repair the electrical problems caused by McCluskey and additional repairs related to safety issues that had not been detected by McCluskey. The owner did not charge me for approximately ten hours of work he did on the electrical system to correct these problems. Shortly thereafter, on July 12, the car developed the same problem which it had on June 28. I took it to another repair shop in Cincinnati, which correctly diagnosed the problem as a bad MAF sensor. The car has been running fine since then. He assured me my car is in good enough shape to drive to California. Essentially, McCluskey messed up my cars electrical system, charged me $845.75 for unnecessary work which made the situation worse and failed to diagnose the real problem. Instead of getting service at McCluskey, my car was suffering abuse at the hands of unskilled, incompetent mechanics.

The cost has been substantial: in addition to the money wasted at McCluskey, I have now paid the other repair shops nearly $1500 to correct McCluskeys mistakes and fix safety issues they did not detect, and have received an estimate of nearly $2000 for the further repairs to complete.

However, on August 19, the president of McCluskey Chevrolet has contacted me and has acknowledged my dissatisfaction with my experience. He has agreed to fairly compensate me. McCluskey Chevrolet has acted in good faith to satisfactorily resolve this situation and I no longer feel wronged.
