Before going to Italy and truly tasting the difference in the way they prepare their authentic, fresh dishes, I would have given Trattoria 5 stars. By comparison now, I am much more critical of Italian food and see that what this place lacks in authenticity and creativity they make up for with sizable portions and great prices. I take my less discriminating in-laws here, and we all have a good time. I have never had poor service here, either.

I enjoyed an evening at the Trattoria this summer. We had a nice family dinner and it was absolutely delicious. I had the chicken parmigiana and tira misu for dessert. The prices were reasonable and they had a great menu selection. The waiter was outstanding and there was not a long wait. They also served the best Sangria I've ever had. I can't wait to go back.

This place is consistently awesome. It is not the ritziest place in the world, but that's the only reason I didn't give them 5 stars. My family I have been going for years. I've tried all the restaurants in little italy and this one has no competition. You see the same staff there year after year. That's proof they are good fair people and their product is awesome. See the line out the door on the weekend. The prices are mild, between $8 - $15 an entree. The gnocchi is unbelievable, Rachel Ray said the eggplant parmesan is better than most in Rome. Check out some of their recipes in her cookbook; as she did a show live from Trattoria. I would recommend this place to anyone. However, if you go during the feast, don't expect the same food. They have a totally different skeleton menu. I guess you have to when 30,000 people visit in one weekend.

Pros: always provide parking, great food

Cons: can be busy, make a reservation

This past weekend I took my wife and in-laws (from la Sicilia) to Trattoria. I've been to this place four or five times in the past two years, and the food has always been excellent. However, I am highly disappointed with my last visit. Whereas the place was clean and the service was up to its usual high standards, the food was a low-grade knock-off of real Italian cuisine. I ordered the veal cutlet, which comes with a side of pasta. The cutlet came to my table cold and floating on a sea of grease -- more like a deep-fried hockey puck than an edible entree; the pasta was quite undercooked, and the sauce tasted of a tin can... acidic, metallic, and unseasoned.

My father-in-law's eggplant and sausage sandwich was better prepared, but the eggplant was bitter and undercooked.

In short, what had been one of my favorite restaurants served food that wouldn't make it at the Olive Garden.

What the hell happened to this restaurant? Were they saving their real food for the Feast of the Assumption? Or, have they cheaped out, gone commercial, and staffed their kitchen with "cooks" who wouldn't know pasta and fennel if it fell out of their culo? I hope it's the former.

Pros: Fast, friendly service.

Cons: A mere approximation of Italian Food.

Nested in Little Italy, Trattoria Roman Garden has three dining rooms and a patio, yet always a line at the door despite all the seating! That really speaks to the quality of their restaurant. Their food is superb, from delicate raviolis to pasta with marinara sauce. Each dish comes is served in humongous portions and their prices are great. Often, on weekends, they have live music with Sinatra tunes to enhance the Italian experience.

The food is great. You will love it. Try the gnocci and the spaghetti with meat sauce. The staff is very friendly. If you like garlic this is the place to go. And try the calamari.

Very big portions, decent prices, and we absolutely love the free appetizer: bread with this great garlic tomato sauce, which you can buy at the front or at any of the local bakeries in Little Italy.

We truly love this place. We had our first date here, got engaged here, had children's graduation dinners, rehersals dinners, anniversary dinners, etc. here and every event was just right...It just feels like eating with family. Excellent food, reasonable prices and all around interesting place to dine. They go out of their way to make your experience nice. Can't say enough good things about Trattoria and staff.
Thanks for years of memories!!!

The most delicious food in town, the best prices in town, wonderful service and great ambience. Go and enjoy the accordian player on the weekends. Make sure u stop at the bar first and try one of the great Italian Margaritas. By far the best place in Little Italy. Make sure u try the Eggplant Parm and save some room for the Tiramisu.

Set in the heart of Little Italy, Trattoria on the Hill serves up hearty, traditional Italian cuisine with a not-so-hearty price tag. From penne arrabiata to veal Marsala, this cucina crafts it all. Start with the breaded eggplant, served…
