A gem that makes Westerville what it is

by Amy M.

"Crow's Nest" for an employee to direct you where you need to go as you get through the door. I jokingly say "they have one of everything", which is true 90% of the time. I have shopped there since Shrock road was two lanes (25 years ago) and the town was dry. I shop with my dog on leash and I am not asked to leave (as long as she behaves). They are employee owned which means good service is a MUST in the era of the big box stores. I NEVER have trouble finding help.

Great Store

by Anonymous

They probably charged you a restocking fee because you destroyed the packaging ;-)

They are a great store that banks on quick service and a knowledge-able staff....

Terrible service

by dee f.

The service here was lacking. Since their store is so packed with junky "toys," it is hard to find real tools. So I needed some directions and basically everyone ignored me. I did eventually get helped by someone named Rick, who treated me very poorly. I was looking for a sawzall and since I am petite, a woman and slightly older, he basically told me I could not operate the tool. I felt terrible and walked out of the store. They did not make me feel welcome or that I had a right to be in their store.

Overpriced and condescending

by Anonymous

Service was very condescending. I did not know exactly what I was looking for and was made to feel as though I should not have been asking questions. When I did find my item and purchased it, I compared it to my local "big box" home improvement store and the price I paid was 20% more!!! I tried to take the item back and was told I would be charged a "restocking fee." Be careful!!!

Everything You Want

by Gloria M. | insider_expert Insider Expert | Rank: 9,944

I've been shoping Roush Hardware for years. They have parts that your major hardware stores don't carry. There is someone waiting as you walk in to guide you in the right direction to the item (s) your looking for. Family oriented environment with a knowledgable staff.

Neighborhood Store with Neighborhood Feel

by Gerard I. | insider Insider | Rank: 19,129

Don't expect a Lowe's or Home Depot, however you do find friendly knowledgable service, quality material, and a neighborhood environment. They're there to help you out as much as they can.

When you have a question, too.

by Don G. | insider Insider | Rank: 28,461

If you just need a box of screws or a tube of caulk, go to the big box mega store. If you have any question about which screw or caulk you need, come here. The prices are fair, but not the lowest. Their selection is amazing, but they don't have 65 brands of each tool. Their strength is the friendly, most knowledgeable and most helpful staff anywhere.

PROS: People are helpful, experienced, professional, knowledgeable.
CONS: Bigger stores have better prices & more selection.

An Old Time Hardware Store

by Rise S. | insider_expert Insider Expert | Rank: 7,094

This is your typical old time hardware store. It offers a gift, household, card, seasonal, and of course your expected hardware store type items. Prices are reasonable in general, but if you the lowest possible price and largest selection, this may not be for you. If you are looking for nostalgia, you have stepped back in time here!

Much better than getting help at a large warehouse store

by sapost

I've always had good service and advise from the employees. The very seldom do not have what I'm looking for. Asking questions of the staff usually gets good results. If you know what you need to do but are unsure of how to go about doing it, they will help you find what you need.

Pros: Plentiful, knowledgeable, and helpful staff. A decent amount of variety.

Cons: Prices seem high for some items but the assistance is well worth the extra.

Plenty of expert staff to help you with your project

by lindabrownstein

I have been using Roush Hardware in Westerville as my main source of supplies and advice since moving to Westerville in 1977.

Here are the top 9 things I like about it:

1 - It is conveniently located at Schrock and State and there is parking right outside the door.

2 - When I come in, I am greeted by a receptionist who knows where everything is in the store and will also summons a staff member from that department.

3 - The staff knows their department and can answer questions, so I don't have to guess. They have told me how to install a ceiling fixture, how to repair my toilet, what stain to use for my deck and how to prepare it, etc.

4 - They also have a service desk in the back where I have gotten keys made, screens repaired, glass cut, etc.

5 - If I buy something heavy like topsoil, they load into my car for me.

6 - They have lots of loose screws, nails, and other items, like hardware stores used to have.

7 - I must mention the free popcorn.

8 - It is owned by the employees! Yes, those people in the store own it.

9 - There is a Starbucks and a Panera nearby so I can fortify myself with a cafe mocha before tackling my job.

Pros: service, lots of loose items, parking, enough staff, knowledgeable

Cons: can usually beat price at a big box store
