My boyfriend and I ate at S&W for the first time on NYE 2008. Our server was pushy and intimidating. My boyfriend got the porterhouse which was so-so. I truly think I could have made the same think on my grill at home for a lot less money. I will say the bread and mac & cheese were pretty good. I will definitely stick to Cameron Mitchell restaurants after this experience.

First - they seated us in the smoking section . We asked to be seated outdoors, but no one asked about smoking or non. We were moved when we protested. As for food - the prime rib was not very good - no beef taste. Filet mignon au poivre was OK. Fresh vegetabeles (carrots, peapods, baby squash ) were excellent. Macaroni and cheese pretty good, but needed more cheese - and I did not taste the truffle oil. The manager "treated" us to a baked Alaska which was way less than mediocre. We will not go back. Mitchell's, and especially Hyde Park are way better than S&W.

This is one of my favorite spots in Columbus. The food is great and the prices are moderate. My Uncle drives to Columbus every year to take me there for my birthday as it is his favorite restaurant in Ohio. The wait staff is awesome as well.

Decent food, decent atmosphere but I have definitely seen better especially for the money. They have live jazz music there on some evenings which is nice, but still not worth the price. I dont understand why the after work crowd is usually large as it is. $10 for a glass of wine is stupid this is wine you could buy for less than that at the grocery store. Martinis are also $10+. For the same price for steaks Id rather go to Mitchells. And youll probably find better service there, too. The night we were there service was very slow despite the restaurant only being half full. Worth a try, but not more than once in my opinion.

Pros: Location is decent

I went to this restaurant knowing it would be pricey. I didn't know however that I'd be shelling out $40 plus a $6 tip for lunch. I had a decent piece of tuna, it was well prepared and tasty. My friend had pizza. It was beautifully plated and smelled great. We had a really nice side dish. However, the food was very overpriced and the waiter was SO pushy about the alcohol. It was noon on a Wednesday!

Arrived on time for reservation. Decibel level louder than a 747. Couple seated next to us had a woman with a low-cut top on, so they got attention constantly from our waiter. We were told they were out of Prime Rib, but, the couple next to us, who had ordered after us, got their Prime Rib...Imagine that....Waiter screwed up our bill, and charged us for dessert which we never received....After reducing the bill, he got a 1.00 tip from us. We surmised that if you park your Ferrari or BMW out front, you do get better service as we observed as we sat waiting for our meals....Wrote to S & W management, and they did send us a gift certificate and a set of steak knives, so they tried to make amends. We will try them again, but on an off-nite in the winter when everyone leaves their Ferraris inside.

Pros: Food just "OK"

Cons: Everything else, Decibel level

Christmas Eve Dinner my wife and two kids went to S&W. Not all it is cracked up to be. The $40+ steak was good but that is about it, Brio accross the street has a better steak for half that. Service was okay but bothersome. Kids had the option of French Fries or French Fries. Food presentation was poor. A large slab of meat on a white plate.

One would assume that S&W's premium prices would produce upper-eschelon food and service. Quite the contrary, a $30 filet is an unadorned slab of meat; the $6-8 sides are unsophisticated affairs drowning in butter. No sooner are the plates unceremoniously slapped on the table is one interrupted by the strident, repetitive questioning of the wait staff to remove them. I would sooner dine at a truck stop.

It's a place to visit to say you've been there, but otherwise it is a food factory that sells you more on their big city image than their overpriced menu. I'm convinced the seating and service are based on your appearence. I went there in a designer suit and was seated in a romantic area with hardwood walls and fireplace and received the best service ever. I went there in jeans and was seated in a room with the ambience of an Outback, next to children, and the service was so bad the manager actually took over for our waiter. The steak was some of the better steak in the area, but the sides were things like an $8.00 stick of steamed broccolli or a 1/4 head of lettuce. There are other places with equally good steak and much more originality than this chain restaurant.

Wonderful meal with colleagues, and a special night out with family. Classy yet friendly room, attentive service replete with the little extras that make dining at S & W a memorable event.

Pros: Food, Service, Atmosphere

Smith and Wollensky represents the New York atmosphere to perfection. The staff is nothing but welcoming and management is on their toes catering to your every need. The food is large and flavorful with awesome steaks that are dry-aged and butchered in-house, fresh seafood and desserts that are beyond heaven, make this restaurant the place to be in Columbus. Also, S&W has a great brunch and lunch special.

Pros: Large Porportions, Friendly Staff, Great atmosphere

I have not had a steak, this perfect, since I was out in Kansas. They let the flavor, of the steak, speak for its self. The tuna steak that my wife had was equally perfect. They treated us like we were the most important of people. Having been to some of the Camron Mitchell Restaurants, we did not have to go to McDonalds this time to become full.

Pros: parking,, food,, wine and everyone

The manager told me that all the beef is dry aged and butchered in house. They make their own desserts and most breads. They even have 5 sommeliers working in the restaurant to talk about their extensive wine list. The entire staff was very knowledgeable and helped w/ recommendations w/out being promted. The bar scene is always awesome. They have a huge specialty drink list. I like that they have put up a tent with a heater and tables to accomodate those who crave a quick smoke. I have eaten at all the other steak houses in town and hands down this one slays them. I do a lot of traveling and knowing that when I get off a plane that this restaurant is open until 2am serving a full menu is great. I have closed numerous deals w/ clients at this impressive restuarant. Can't wait to go back!

Pros: Valet, Great service, Fanatstic Food

Cons: Very Busy, Noisy

.

Perhaps I expected too much. The steaks were good, the side dishes nearly flavorless and truly boring (whipped potatoes and spinach, the only two our server recommended). Wine list (as expected) good, but extremely pricey. House salad dressing is dreadful, tastes bottled. Service is excellent. Still, we won't go back, as Columbus does have a Ruth's Chris and even Hyde Park were everything is excellent.

Smith and Wollensky, unlike what other reviewers posted, offers the best service in Columbus. The servers are well-versed in their profession and offer what is truly a wonderful replica of New York style dining. If you can't deal with a charmingly gruff yet very professional waitstaff, i'd recommend staying in the Midwest...or at least out of this restaurant.

Pros: service, excellent location, cocktail service

food is WONDERFUL.. but the service is terrible. atmosphere is fun. It is expensive but the food is worth it and comparable to other similar steakhouses. food is all a la carte. it really stinks that the service is so bad because EVERYTHING else about it is great. our dinner for 2 is usually $80-100 including tip ( without drinks)

This Columbus-area branch of the famed New York steakhouse chain has a lively bar and grill that's open until midnight Friday and Saturday. Start off with the split pea soup, and follow it with a simply grilled, Cajun-seasoned, au poivre,…
