As a graduate of Cleveland John Marshall class of 1998, I can honestly tell you that Marshall is the best in the city. I speak without a bias opinion for I have traveled to and experienced ALL of the other High schools in the Cleveland School District through athletics, seminars, and family. Academically, John Marshall has their bright students and hands out the opportunity for anyone to excel. I am a great example that you can be very successful achieving a good standard form of education in a public school system. That is brought upon the students being taught by not only well educated teachers, but ENERGETIC ones! All of the teachers have an understanding that the environment is in an urban setting and in a district that is going through financial hardship. Despite John Marshall being the biggest high school in Cleveland with over 2000 students, there goes more of a diverse student body from all nationalities and backgrounds. Teachers work very hard to adapt to the needs of each student who needs more attention for the overall class to succeed academically. Personally, I believe they all deserve a raise. Activities, John Marshall High has a very strong tradition of WINNING! The best dancers (Lawyerettes and Drill Team), competitive Baseball/Softball team, Basketball and the football team have glorified roots in winning. This school supports it's teams. Many after school programs also available. The CONS. John Marshall being a part of the poor school district in a city that is rank #1 in poverty amongst mid-size cities in this country, you can only guess where the funds are going towards. Money is thin and I have witnessed other schools literally collapsed such as the gymnasium of Cleveland's East High. John Marshall also has their chips and dings. Though I must say, money is being spent to repair the old building and more money is being funded to update the technology. Still, It lacks the standards compared to suburban schools. Violence is at a minimum and minor. John Marshall Security team is strong and does their job very well. Also, it helps to keep the peace with the First district Cleveland Police dept directly 2-3 blocks down the street. Overall, If you have to send your child to a Cleveland Public High School...John Marshall is your best choice. You always can send your child to a private school...but your child can succeed academically and be ready for college with the teachings and the elements of John Marshall High.

John Marshall is so close to us. We watch the students walk to school each day, filled with energy. I can speak about John Marshall because of our children going there. The teachers there are wonderfully gifted, spewing their thoughts on the children, creating the wonderful minds of tomorrow. They entertain the children, and make them want to be there.

I have had 2 of my children graduate from John Marshall, one of them Valedictorian of her senior class. You just can't judge John Marshall as being one of the Cleveland Public Schools which are doing so poorly. Instead, you need to take a look at the teachers, the wonderful teachers, who fill our students minds with things that will prepare them for life.
