this is a great restaurant. the food is good and the atmosphere is usually pretty nice too. the only thing is that they need to do a little renovation to the main dining area. the drop ceiling needs replaced with something a little more

Pros: Great location, food and service

Cons: Pretty pricey

I've been to Spagio many times over the years and everytime I go I ask my husband why he didn't remind me that I'm not a big fan. We were just there Friday and I thought my food was average at best. I don't want to knock the place because they do have great service but there's something off.

Me and my Godmother went to brunch this past Saturday to celebrate our birthdays and this place exceeded my expecations of a brunch-like meal. The food, service and restaurant were all fabulous and I would recommend anyone wanting a step above the rest to go dine at this establishment. The Saturday weather was absolutly gorgious, so pretty that we had our brunch on their beautiful patio to take in the Granview scenery.

The food is a very generous portion depending on what you get and the beverage selection is also great. I am unsure of their lunch or dinner menus as I sated we where there for brunch. I am sure though that those menu selections are just as good.

Those of you who love wine they also have a fabulous winery there and many labels to choose from.

The day could not have been anymore beautiful. A round of applouse to Spagio!!

So, you know the aroma that you experience in the restroom after lunch at a major corporation? You know, after all the farm animals you call co-workers get done at the feeding trough and decide to violently explode last night's meal all over the porcelain? Yeah, that's right, that description almost perfectly describes our experience at Spagio last night. Not sure where they acquired their so-called "seafood" being that there is no "sea" anywhere near Grandview, but I'm fairly certain it arrived packed against a longshoreman's taint who'd just worked a double and had irritable bowel syndrome. At least, that's what it smelled like. Between that and being told to "get f*cked" when politely requesting a few extra rolls by the troglodyte server.......needless to say, we will not be returning. DO NOT WANT.

This was my first and last visit to this restaurant. I had heard some positive things about Spagio, but unfortunately none of those came to pass during my visit.

The wait staff seemed to toggle between bored and rude; although they did go through the paces, "friendly" or "helpful" or "knowledgeable" are certainly not the adjectives I would use to describe them.

The food varied between mundane and poor. Especially disappointing was the wood-fired pizza, which is hard to find in Columbus, Although the crust was good, the toppings were boring, when they weren't downright inedible. Specifically, the pepperoni pizza included unchewable outer onion rinds, which had to be removed and transferred to the discard plate.

Like pesto? You won't find it here. Your waiter will pour a pale puddle of plain olive oil on a saucer, slide a bowl of rolls across the table, and disappear for a while.

On the positive side, the lobster bisque was excellent. The restaurant decor and setting is nice, but a little pretentious considering the location and the fare on the menu.

Love Grandview Avenue and SPAGIO is my fav stop. I like the grouper, filet mignon and the antipasta appetizer. The pizzas are great if you want a quick bite. Don't forget dessert here, they're on display out front and worth trying. Fun patio - lots of good people watching.

Have gone here several times on business, but probably won't go back. It seems dated and not trendy anymore. Maybe Mr Chef is getting tired now that he has established himself. I had the pleasure/displeasure of helping a friend make a delivery in the rear, and I was not impressed by the surroundings or the lack of communication among the rude workers. I'm sure that reflects into the waitstaff and cooks, so I am politely bowing out of being a Spagio patron.

Spagio may once have been a culinary star in the columbus constellation of restaurants, but that is no more. Indeed, this fallen star is now known for diner quality food and unprofessional service/management.

Frozen fish, badly overcooked pasta, lamb full of gristle, and uninspired entrees are the low points of an uninspired menu trapped in the same culinary time period as the sagging decor. It should also be noted that the "wild" salmon entree is actually composed of farmed fish; pregnant mothers and health conscious diners beware.

While I have had some good service while eating at Spagio, such experiences have been few and far between of late. Servers are uniformly unfamiliar with the wine list, and they are largely not of the polished sort one finds at G. Michaels, Rigsby's, Thom's, and the majority of upscale chain restaurants in Columbus these days.

I should also note that on my last visit to Spagio I saw Chef Hubert (who is NEVER in the Spagio kitchen, so don't be fooled) openly smoking at the Spagio bar! Friends tell me this is not a rare sight, and chalk it up to the charming ways of an old European chef. I say hogwash! Grandview Heights overwhelmingly enacted a smoking ban last year and Chef Hubert, whatever his charms, is not exempt.

One good thing about Spagio, to be fair, is the continued success of Spagio Cellars, and adjacent wine store/bistro. One may order appetizers and pizzas from the Spagio menu (these are its strongest items) as well as the best cheese board in Columbus ($12 for a large portion of 5 select cheeses). There is also a great selection of American and imported beer at reasonable prices. The staff at the Cellars is friendly and knowledgable, but not stuffy, and the atmosphere is perfect for a drink and light food with friends.

Overall, if one is in Grandview and loooking to dine, he might try Thom's or Z. Cuchina before Spagio, or take a light dinner at Spagio Cellars.

I go to Spagio 2-3 times per year. Each time I kick myself for going. The wait staff is well meaning but undertrained. And the menu is limited. But the worst thing about Spagio is the food. Other than the pizza and some of the appetizers, the cuisine is gross. Last week my girlfriend got the seabass and neither of us could eat it. Like most of Spagio's seafood, it was a soupy mess and tasted kind of fetid. We gave it to the cat. I will say that the Spagio wine bar next door to the restaurant is very good. Take a date to a wine tasting and enjoy the pizza they serve. But leave the main menu alone.

I didn't like it. I thought the food was nothing special. I loved the design inside and huge windows. I think that's what the money I paid was going towards.

I have been to the Grandview area several times for lunch, and had been looking forward to trying Spagio's. Having read reviews from this site, I thought it would be a great first date location. WRONG! The service was awful. Although we were promptly seated, it took quite some time before we were even asked for drinks. Then, after waiting a significant amount of time, we had to ask for someone to come back to take our orders. The menu was quite limited (unless you like pizza) and the portions were not very large. Neither my date nor I like the meals we ordered and, as someone had mentioned in a previous post, the decor leaves a bit to be desired. Overall, very disappointing.

Spagio is one of my favorite spots in town for great food. The interior, which I do not believe has not been updated since opening, continues to get uglier and uglier with the addition of miscellaious umbrellas and assorted junk. They really need to spend some money and reinvest in the restaurant using an interior designer that has some training. Again Love the food and do go often, but need dark glasses as to not have to look at the decor...

Spagio is a great place to eat, and I am a little ashamed that I have lived in Columbus so long without trying it. They have excellent food (smoked chicken pasta and wood fired pizzas were great) and a nice selection of wine and beers. They have an attached wine/beer store called Spagio Cellars as well, where they host periodic tastings. Worth checking out if you are in the Grandview area.

All I can say is wow! Spagio is the elite leader when it comes to Italian restraunts. The food is so good that even their plain spaghetti (even without sauce!) is a rare and delectible feast! Spagio is just better!

This ia a good restaurant to go on a first date. The food is good without making you broke, the atmosphere is romantic without being intimidating, and there are interesting shops nearby to explore afterward as you get to know your date better!

Elegant and relaxed, Spagio really did make Grandview a dining destination. Basking in the friendly warmth of the comfortable dining room and watching the fire, waiting for your "designer" pizza to be served by the friendly staff--the perfect winter evening in Columbus. Who knew Grandview could look this good?

Yes, the name was deliberately chosen to evoke the famous Spago moniker; accordingly, the menu isn't all that unfamiliar, loaded as it is with designer pizzas and pastas. Brunch brings on items like quiche Lorraine and buttery croissant…
