Vaccaros Trattoria

A little gem right in Akron, Ohio !
by Anthony L.
I travel the world and have had dinner in every state in the country. What a GEM! The ambiance of a big city restaurant, menu full of creativity, FABULOUS wine list, REAL crystal stemware...GREAT value.... SOLD! I have entertained clients there, the staff is very attentive but not overwhelming with the "up sell". The owner is always present in the dining room and goes out of his way to accommodate. The menu is constantly changing and seems to always get better upon every visit. Best martini and wine selection by the glass I have ever seen. GREAT VALUE ! Keep up the great work Vaccaro's !

Although the food is good, the service is indifferent, and the atmosphere is disappointing. Feel of the place reminds you of a chain restaurants even though it's a local "one of a kind" place. It's right off the highway (you hear constant traffic in there.) I used to like the Vacarro's (not trattoria) on Tallmadge and on Canton Road, but they are gone. There are other local Italian restaurants with similiar prices that feel more authentic.

My wife and I used to frequent this nice classic italian restaurant, just outside the upscale Fairlawn shopping area. The atmoshpere is very nice - the above mentioned crisp white tablecloth, napkins, black furniture in low lighting with lots of windows and quality outside landscaping are complemented by stacks of bread, dried pasta and bottles of wine everywhere. This made for a feast for more than just the sense of taste. Wine recommendations were always helpful, and reasonably priced - a healthy selection of wines from Italy. (Like I was expecting Chile!?) Anyway, the last 3 or four consectuitive times we dined here, we were given undesirable seating, often at a slow time?? We were accomodated when I requested a different seat - (away from the kitchen entrance or further from the bar for instance) - Once seated, we often waited for drinks quite a while, waited on refills, and just generally felt that the wait staff did not match the image of the restaurant. Hopefully they have made the necessary changes, but until I hear this from a reliable source, there are way to many top-shelf choices in the same area - Hyde Park, Ken Stewarts Lodge, Lannings etc... - to put up with dis-interested staff.
