Great place. Food was very good, and service was outstanding! We got to sit by the windows & had a great view of downtown's activities while we ate. Overall very good experience - I'll definitely be back!

We haven't been to Metropolitan in some time. Our last experience was not bad but completely unmemorable. Food.whatever, drinks.fine.service.same same. Decor..bring.music.typical. But we were very pleased with our most current visit. The new chef has a good following and they have a good rep currently for martinis so 4 of us went on a pretty wintery nite a week ago.
I usually don't do foo foo drinks but the blackberry with foam was really great. My wife had the cosmo and it was as perfect as a cosmo could be. Our guests were vodka drinkers and happy with theirs. I liked the wine list but the variety needed something besides California to go with what looked a whole new menu style for dinner.
She had Thai beef which was perfectly spicy and fun, we shared mussels, tasty as well, and we ate a mushroom pizza with grapes. Interesting and a good choice with the bottle of pinot we opened.
The boys had steaks. I had a 1 pound ribeye with what the called 'big fat onion rings' the were really crunchy and juicy inside and with the steak made a great pair. I liked their steak sauce more than the sauce that came with the steak. My friend said his strip was perfect but wsh there was more on the plate besides a couple green beans. He ate his wife's tempura asparagus that came with her 'oscar'. This was a fun rendition of old school, remebering what my parent's used to order in steak houses when we were little. The bearnaise was good too. It had peppers in it that really sweetened it up with the little filets. My wife had the seared tuna. She lik'e asian style so this made her very happy. The rice fritters filled with creamy wasabi and the sauce was made with sea urchin which she always gets at Shuhei. It was really tasty and I don't do sushi.
we had a banana split and cheesecake for dessert which were both awesome.
I have do admit we should have gone back sooner. Our server Adam was very cool and funny and new his stuff.
we will be back
kudos metropolitan

We were in town to visit the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. We were walking around downtown trying to decide where to eat dinner. We were welcomed and seated immediately. The food was delicious. Our waiter was fantastic. It is expensive, so we wouldn't go here often, but we had a nice time. Love their Filet Wellington and their Lobster Bisque!

When I moved to Ohio about 2 years ago, this was one of the first restaurants my husband and I ate at. I was pleasantly surprised to find such good food in such a dying city. The most memorable parts of the meal were the mussels (which I don't think are on the menu anymore) and a FANTASTIC chocolate dessert.

My sister (a culinary graduate) came to visit from Atlanta so I decided to show her one the "finer" restaurants in the city. How embarrassing! Although the service was good (not great) the food left much to be desired. We had the onion soup as an appetizer. It tasted like onion flavored water. Not even the Gruyere crouton had much flavor.

As an entree we had the roasted halibut and the filet mignon metro. If a meal is well prepared and properly seasoned, there is no need for salt during consumption. No matter how much salt we poured on our food, it still tasted like nothing. The NY strip that my husband prepared at home the day before had infinite more flavor then the fine steaks at Metropolitan Cafe.

Needless to say, I will not return to the Metropolitan Cafe. The food is way overpriced for what you actually get. So disappointed!

Pros: Location

Cons: Bad value for money, tasteless food.

I used to be a regular guest at the metroplolitan, but will never return. I along with several friends would frequent this restaurant several times a week. Recently, however we learned that the company had let go the best manager we had seen in years. This restaurant has changed general managers more times than most people change socks. They finally had one that knew what was important, knowing your clientele, and they let him go. Chris fazio was his name, and he was the meaning of the term hospitality. Chris would make it a point to greet every regular and knew them all by name. If you were not a regular, by the time you left he would have introduced himself and invited you back. This is what is lacking in most restaurants these days. It is called the "hospitality industry" for a reason. Chris trated the Metropolitan as if he owned the place, and truly treated all of his guests as people not just a number. On the other hand the older female manager they have has been there for several years and has yet to introduce herself and I have been coming in several time a week for years. Well all that has ended now. Good luck Chris, wherever you end up will be extremely lucky to have you. Maybe you should open a place of you own.

Cons: current management treats you like a number, female manager rude

I had been a regular customer of this restaurant, but will never return. They have gone through several general Managers in the past few years and just recently let go the only one that seemed to care about the customer. Chris Fazio knew all of us "regulars" by name and would always make it a point to stop by to say hi, no matter how busy he was. You don't find that kind of customer service anymore. The older woman that is usually there during the day, has never once even made an effort to learn my name, although I used to come in several times a week. I don't know what is going on with Hyde Park Restaurants lately, maybe they are getting too big and forgot what got them where they are, the good old customer that spends money in their restaurants. Good luck Chris, wherever you end up you have at least one regular that will be coming into your new establishment.

Pros: ok if you like being treated like a number and not a patron

Cons: the female manager, rude

This place is wonderful; from the delicious food to the knowledable and curtious staff. I love every experience I have had at the metropolitan!

I found the food to be decent but not particularly innovating or interesting. This is a decent restaurant to go to downtown, though I believe the prices are far too high for the quality of the menu.

This place was amazing! The atmosphere was great, the service was exceptional, we were promptly seated (we had a reservation), answering all questions we had about the menu. The food was absolutely delicious, the portions were large and the asparagus was really good, too.

Sometimes I got a great meal and other times I had a horrible meal. I had bad fish, bad lobster tail and a handful of times my filet has been way over cooked.
on the other hand I had great service everytime but once.

Had dinner last night at the Metropolitan Cafe and was very impressed. There was a decent crowd for a Wednesday night, but it was perfect for a dinner meeting. I had the Filet and Crab Cake ($24.95) and was exteremly impressed. They are a part of the Hype Park group so they serve the best meat on the market. You could almost cut the filet with a fork. The crab cake was very different then I've had before, and probably the best. The veggies served with the meal were also very unique and delicious! I highly recommend this restaurant for any occasion.

Pros: Great food, Great service

The Metropolitan competes only with Blue Pointe, its neighbor across the street, for the best fresh oyster plates in the city. There are at least four varieties of oysters on the halfshell offered daily, served by the half dozen or the dozen (but you may want to order even more); your server will be able to tell you where they're from and whether they're briny, mild or sweet -- as well as which beverage to enjoy with each type. Happily, one of those beverages can be Guinness, a perfect accompaniment even though they serve it only by the can.
