Really knowledgeable staff-just bought my fifth camera from them and they simply know more than anyone else. What really got me is a Went in with a price from B&H in New York and they matched the price of an internet site.

As an amateur photographer going to design school and have shopped at this store before having pleasant experiences with friendly staff but on my last visit I have found the culprit of the bad reviews for this store. His name is Kieth and because of my terrible interaction with Keith I will NEVER spend another dollar in his store nor will any of my colleagues.
I am a sales person at a local specialty shop and understand the value of a positive customer experience, this owner obviously does not in return he will not get my business and does not deserve yours.

Went into Vans looking to buy a nice camera to use for my business in April of 2012. The gentleman helping me tried to take full advantage of me and charge as much as possible knowing I was inexperienced and could not return once purchased. He tried to pressure me into making a quick decision. Luckily I got out of there without making a purchase. Went home and did some research on the items he suggested. Ended up saving $600!! and still got the same items. He lied about features saying I must buy this and that or else it wouldn't be worth the investment. Have never felt like I was almost ripped off like that in my life. Looking back I get very angry thinking about almost spending $1900 there when I went elsewhere and got EXACT same camera and accessories for $1300. He even tried to charge me extra for things that were suppose to be included and constantly dropped lines like "this is the last one" "its in a package but we dont have the box" just so he could overcharge and piece it out.Bought my first camera there when I was 14 and I will NEVER go back to Van's again!

i have recantly went in to vans camera because i wanted to see about getting some pictures framed. i asked a few questions and they helped me out a lot. they saved me money because i had no idea how framing worked. i went in a few days later to pick it up and they were all framed and it was outstanding. i recomend if anyone needs anything framed go to vans camera.

Holy Crap...That is all I can say. After reading all of the horrible reviews on here about the mid-40's dark hair general manager that is causing so many problems, I had to see this for myself because I couldn't believe that somebody this evil could exist.

I was looking for a Canon Rebel as a gift for my sister who is a photographer in Cleveland for Christmas and I didn't want to buy big box store. I headed to Van's to see what I would encounter. Needless to say, I got the general manager it seems. The same guy everybody has been saying is Satan's Mistress works at Van's, I talked to. Not only did he verbally assault me saying that I wasn't intelligent enough to purchase a camera, but that I shouldn't even be in a camera store. I can't believe that somebody would even say something like that to anybody when they are about to drop a couple thousand dollars on something they know nothing about. I agree that I didn't know what I was buying, but isn't that what sales is? Getting quality advice about a product without being an ass? As I was receiving my verbal bashing, I watched as the other employees stared in horror and rolling their eyes. Want to know what was even more appalling? Some absurdly huge guy standing in the doorway to their backroom standing there chuckling like a joke was told and I was the butt end of it. Unbelievable...

After being completely embarrassed, I went over to the other part of the store to look at some camera bags and could hear the guy talking about me behind my back to another tall guy who appeared to be another manager. He was telling the other manager that he wasn't going to lose his commission on me and was going to try and get me to buy a nikon if he could so he could make more money off of me. Wow...I was under the impression that Van's wasn't on commission...at least that's what I was under the impression for years of buying at van's.

After leaving, I went home and did some thinking. I couldn't believe how horrible I was mistreated along with the verbal abuse that I encountered. The employees looked so stressed and uptight that I'm surprised they weren't crapping diamonds when he walked by. I ended up calling the store the next day and talking to a nice guy who I told my complaint to--(was forwarded to the owner who basically said he wasn't going to do anything and hung up on me)-- and he gave me his full name because I wanted to file a complaint with the BBB on this guy. Basically, I can't file with the BBB because it didn't involve a transaction, but I can put him up on here. Keith (Manager I talked to), you are an absolute ass and need your ass kicked into next Tuesday. You need to learn a lesson that you can't treat people like human dog crap because you think you may know a little more than most people about cameras. I feel sad for the employees that work for you as I wouldn't work for you for a day. You will get your turn someday when you piss off the wrong person and they give you what you need so desperately--an attitude adjustment. I've met people like you...you have no respect for anybody, not even yourself. You get your jollies off on hurting and verbally bashing people and making people think you are higher than them...basically, you're insecure yourself (AKA --A DICK).

I hope that people see this and go to somebody else for their camera needs--I did and will never come back. I hope that either Van's closes up or the owner wakes up and says.."I could be a little wealthier if I just got rid of some ass that's ruining my business and scaring off any potential customers and money that could be keeping me afloat in these turbulent economic times." I can go to Best Buy and get better CUSTOMER SERVICE...

I went to B&H photo as they went out of their way to service my needs without being dicks. Take care Van's, I'm sure you won't be in business very long with the economy the way it is...customer service goes a long way in tough times.

Went several times to look at two separate new cameras. On all but one occasion it was a pleasant experience. No question went unanswered.

HOWEVER there is one jerk who works there who makes it his job to be short and condescending with his answers. HEY MAN I AM A CUTOMER, YOU KNOW, THE GUY SPENDING MONEY!!!!

I have taken pictures for 40 years and have never met a guy with such lousy rapport with customers. White, mid to late 40's, dark hair and totally unpleasant to deal with. Too bad, I wanted to buy local but I wouldn't buy a D300 from him if he was selling it for $1.

He must own the place because no owner in their right mind would keep a socially inverted guy like this around.

Van's I'll come back when he is gone !

I am so surprised that so many had the same review of the "manager"!! Yes, he was a very cold person. Too bad, I bet he was knowledgeable. I ordered some frames and paid and they said they would be back ordered. I called for months and they just kept saying that they were not in yet. I thought that kind of strange and found out that they were never ordered. Of course, by that time I lost the receipt. That figures. Oh well, my loss. I think that they should have told me sooner that someone slipped up.

Over the past few years I have tried to purchase items from Vans through their internet site and also in the store - they WILL NOT honor the prices on their internet site and WILL NOT honor their ads from the local paper - they advertise promos that are "typos" and just shrug off the promos with a "we're too small to hire full time staff so we have mistakes" - as far as customer service - I definetly have had the same "gentleman" as other reviewers - totally rude and acts like I am bothering HIM to want to make a purchase. My son bought a $625 lens plus accessories and again the sales clerk really could have cared less!!!!! I wanted to walk out but my son saved for that lens and wanted to deal locally - as for me I'm done with Vans!!!!

Wow...after reading the reviews on here, I felt I should write one about my experience with Van's. I am a professional photographer who is well known and I drove down from Cleveland, Ohio to see about buying a new digital SLR. As I walked in the door, I was greeted by an annoying and extremely rude salesperson who was surprisingly dressed in a pizza hut worker shirt..it was van's right? I ignored that fact of unprofessionalism and I have to say, this guy was nothing less than a dick to me. After asking him some basic questions about the camera, I was insulted about my intelligence and that he was the only person who would be around after all the photo stores closed down. I basically walked away to say the least. The other thing I noticed that really bothered me as I walked out was the way he treated the rest of the staff as he was barking orders at a young girl who was working.. I am assuming he was a manager or something. All I can say is, wow..what an insecure and sad life that guy must lead. I run a business myself and would never treat my employees like that.

The only positive thing that came out of that experience is I took that guy's picture with my camera phone when he wasn't looking and took it to my office. I printed it out and use his picture and this business as what not to do when dealing with customers at my board meetings.

Oh, by the way Vans...B&H got my business...just in case you were wondering

I did some calling around and found Van's was one of the few places in town that would give me an idea of what was wrong with my camera. I took in my older Nikon point and shoot, and left it to determine what was wrong with it. I was pleased to hear the answer in just a few days, unfortunately not good news, but very prompt and professional. And at a cost to diagnose a problem that is lower than any of the local competition that does. They then walked me through all the new cameras and I bought a newer Nikon that we both agreed would best fit my needs. I did some calling around and found Van's was one of the few places in town that would give me an idea of what was wrong with my camera. I took in my older Nikon point and shoot, and left it to determine what was wrong with it. I was pleased to hear the answer in just a few days, unfortunately not good news, but very prompt and professional. And at a cost to diagnose a problem that is lower than any of the local competition that does. They then walked me through all the new cameras and I bought a newer Nikon that we both agreed would best fit my needs. Van's was my 4th stop of the day, after Best Buy, Ritz Camera and Circuit City. And it's where I bought my outfit. I had a list of 5 cameras I wanted to look at, 1 Olympus, 2 Sony and 2 Nikon. They were the only one of the 4 stores to have all 4, allthough in all fairness the one the other 3 stores didnt have is the OIympus 520 which probably isnt a big seller. What got me was the number of lens selections Vans had for Nikon and Sony, it even blew the other camera store away much less the big boxes.

Im not sure what somebody was talking about prices being a little high, they were the lowest price, by about $20, on two of the cameras and the same price as other two. In fact the other 3 places were all the same prices on the 4 models-but that seems the wake it works anymore.

Anyway, great store-all kinds of cool stuff-like my salesman said "We've got all the goodies".

I didnt really expect a local store to have as much stuff as best buy, but my dad told me to go to Van's to look for a DSLR. The girl there showed me Nikon, Canon, Sony, Olympus. And they were less than Best Buy and gave me some free stuff-even a class on how to use it. I didnt get to go but my girlfriend did and she really learned a lot.

I have worked in Electronics retail for 22 years. I was pleasantly surprised that the prices were equal to the competition, and with free classes on how to work the cameras. The fact that there is a NO RETURN POLICY was a mind jogger, as was our return policy at THE APPLIANCE STORE NORTHEAST, as was FRETTER SUPERSTORE , for camcorders, cameras, and radar detectors, because people abused the privilege of having these items and returned them after their trip and wanted to return them for refunds, which is totally underhanded. I understand where VANS EMPLOYEES are coming from and back their philosophy. GOOD JOB VAN'S.

When you are buying they never mention they do not take returns-even on defective merchandise they recommended to you. They treat you like garbage for asking. In 2008 I can hardly believe they would not be able to return the merchandise to the manufacturer- so it must be they do not like happy customers or repeat business. I would not recommend them to anyone, anywhere or anytime. You are much better served by a store that stands behind the merchandise it sells.

I had been looking for a digital SLR for weeks, but nobody at Best Buy or the other places could tell me what any real differences between a NikonD80 and a Sony750 were until I went here.

I expected to pay more but it was the same price and they threw in a bunch of free developing and a photo class on my camera.

Tried to patronize a local business over the holidays, but got burned and will never be back. Overcharged for everything including the camera, case, lithium batteries - they said I had to buy these for the camera - but when I opened up the camera I found out they were already included. I was in a hurry and should have shopped around, there is better prices and service elsewhere. They offer a free class with the purchase of a camera - it is simply a marketing gimmick to get you to buy accessories and try to get your photo printing business. The majority of the class is them simply trying to sell you on the need to use only them in the future. A complete waste of my time, they should have paid me to show up. I tried to return the camera, but they will only allow exchanges. I know why they only allow exchanges - because they would have so many returns because of buyer remorse. Check into them and compare, I would rather go to a big box store now.
