The Grill on 21st has excellent food. Our children are grown so my husband and I eat dinner out or get carryout every night. It's nice to have a good cocktail and relax before a meal. The service at The Grill has always been great. I had a Christmas get together for my employees in the front bar a couple of years ago. The staff knocked themselves out to see we all enjoyed. The price was very reasonable for a group of 100. The owner is local and I like to keep local business at the top of my list.

They catered our company Christmas party, and did an outstanding job! Food was terrific, prices reasonable and they even made mini pizzas for the younger kids. We plan to use them again!

In line with many of the other reviews here, I would say STAY AWAY from this poor excuse for a restaurant. The extremely rude management combined with the mediocre food (and flat beer) makes for a very expensive, regretful experience. This business seems to be the product of inexperience and pomposity, and I wouldn't recommend it to my worst enemy.

As a past resident of the north end of Newark, I have been enjoying said facility on 21st Street for many years. I have watched it go from Casa Lupita to The Golden Hunan, Hiney's and now The Grill. Although the road was a little bumpy when the current owner completely re-vamped and reopened The Grill, I feel they have come a long way. The owner is not always the best person to do business with, but I rarely see him these days. I personally like the servers (not sure about the toothless server and I go in once a week), bartenders and managers. I could do without the hostesses though. They aren't the friendlest sort and are unprofessional - but then again they are quite young and surely inexperienced. On a good note, I have never had a bad meal and have met some very charming and interesting people. I also enjoy the fact that they try to provide entertainment throughout the week and on weekends. It may not always be an event that is for me, but there aren't a whole lot of places in Newark that provide a nice atmosphere in which to enjoy live music, karoake or music trivia. The outdoor patio area is quite nice during the warmer months! In my opinion, the Hinder event was too large for the facility, but at least they tried. I'm sure a lot of people enjoyed their time and money spent.
I would suggest trying the Grill - take your family in for lunch or dinner, or take your friends in later in the evening for a drink and some entertainment. Most people come back!

The food at the Grill on Twenty-First is good, but the service and the owner are great! I have only had a bad experience there once before. Our food took a little longer than it should have to come out. The owner was there, and he was very nice and understanding. He gave us a discount on our check and a $10 off coupon for the next time we came in to eat. I am really looking forward to going up there this Friday night to listen to music from the Danger Brothers, meet Craig Krenzel, and honor all of the Licking County teams who have won recent State Championships. These include: Newark boys basketball, Newark Catholic football, Lakewood girls softball, and Heath baseball and track. And, all of the proceeds from the ticket sales go to the schools that are being honored. That is great for the owner to do for these area schools!! I would recommend the Grill on 21st to anyone.

The facility at The Grill on 21st....a phenomenal transformation from its previous heroine den turned dirty-Hiney-festival. It looks great. Like a cheerleader on Jeopardy though, it doesn't take long to see how shallow the beauty. The menu is nice to read, almost promising. The followthrough on anything but bar food is mediocre at best. Not to be out done, the service is delivered by n-EW-ark's finest - no teeth required. I actually like dive places with bar food. But I like the ones that know what they are and don't try to pretend to be something else. Don't bother with the Grill. Try it in a few years - it'll be something else.

I have read through all the reviews posted and I do not know what these people are talking about. I go to the grill at least once a week and have never had one problem with the service dining in or taking out or the owner. What a great guy, my sister actually had her graduation party there. He Shut down the back bar for her party as well as the middle dining area. I know of numerous fund raisers which have been held there and know of many people who have used his catering services. For all of you who wish bad upon The Grill and hope it goes out of business, I have news for you, from the looks of things it is doing nothing but growing in popularity. So go ahead and take your business elsewhere because no one likes people who do nothing but complain. Also for the person who was talking about the bartender trying to get them to order a drink, its a bar thats what people do at bars and about the drinking and driving please honestly tell me you have never done that before and people who drink at bars legally are at least 21 years of age so no drinking and driving should not really be a concern to them seeing as anyone in there drinking should know THERE OWN LIMITS because they are an adult and should not have to be babysat. The thing is though I know of numerous times when the bartenders have called cabs for people who did not know THERE OWN LIMITS and rather than let these people get behind the wheel of a car they made sure they had a way home. I mean did the bartender say "hey why dont you sit here and see how many shots you can take while you wait for your food"? No they asked if you wanted a drink, thats their job. Come on get a clue and know what you are talking about before you get on here and write a review about a place that you know nothing about.

Yes, I am sorry because I rarely will bother to take the time to write or complain about a place but this place is just the worst. The food is okay but not exceptional but the real problem here is with the owner and that his attitude seems to flow through his business. We have gone there twice because I always give a place a second chance. Anyone can have a bad day. I guess at "The Grill" it is always a bad day or at least a rude one. My wife was actually the object of an insult and even then neither of us could believe what we heard. When I asked about the comment, it was repeated. I'm 51 years old and have learned to control myself but I felt like punching the guy out! We simply left before I got equally rude.Don't let me stop you from going to this place but be prepared. With any luck this place will be out of business soon.

I called in a take-out order tonight for several items that were NOT complicated to make. I arrived in the time they said it would take to have my order ready. The order was NOT ready on time but I figured oh well and went and waited at the bar where I was told it would be brought out to me. The bartender was a putz.........tried to get me to order drinks. COME ONE I had a TAKE OUT order. Talk about a bad idea........drinking and driving is obviously not too serious of an issue to these people. I got my food, drove home and was missing two items from the order. I called back in and was told there was NO manager on duty. What kind of business has NO manager on duty. NO WONDER my order was not only not ready when I got there but incomplete! Still waiting on my two items or a call back from management to get my money back.
