I give mad love for the Newport for it being close, relatively fair on price for any music venue, I hate how security lacks...security, a lot of drugs going on, a lot of fights, etc. Not the best scene for young adults who aren't into that

Not sure if the other Reviewers were at this place BEFORE it started falling apart, but I was there Friday Night (7/2/2010) for Dream Theater. While Dream Theater sounded GREAT, the VENUE itself is AWFUL. Unless you want to stand glued to the railing all night, with no hope of being able to return to your "spot" if you need to go to the bathroom or get a drink, I guess it's fine. We were in the upper section on Two of the Barstools that actually still had Stools left on them.
We were only able to see Keyboards and Drums. If we stood up, could then see Bass and Vocals, however was very uncomfortable.
Would NEVER go to this Venue again.

This is the perfect medium sized concert hall as far as sound, atmosphere, and lay out. Don't wear your good shoes as it is not the cleanest and the bathrooms are often puddled. With out the grossness, this would easy be a 5 star rating and it couldn't get much better.

i went to the Newport Music Hall on Nov. 2 to watch Academy Is.., We The Kings, Carolina Liar, and Hey Monday!! i was a little skeptical at first. considering that it was my first concert and i didnt know what to expect. and from the outside the building looked a little small... but boy was i wrong. as soon as i stepped through the door the atmosphere was buzzing. it was loud and rowdy! it was just an overall good time. i didnt anticipate such a wild pit.... but it was pretty violent. i got beer spilled on me. but nobody was hurt or trampled so it was all good. crowd surfing was fun but the bouncers were gay. the prices are a little pricey but the atmoshere was great. the bands were awesum and had good stage presence. and they were intimate with the crowd... expect to get a few autographs, a few water bottles, and drum sticks thrown by the band members!!!

The newport music hall on High Street in columbus is a great place to see a concert of almost any kind. It's a smaller venue (probably under 1000 people capacity), which makes it nice and intimate. The lower dance floor level is sunken down under the stage so that other people on the first floor can easily see over the heads of people in the pit. The upper level balcony is sometimes not open for some smaller shows, but is a great place to watch the show from as well. It's located near a lot of little bars and restraunts in the area, so there are many other things to to before and after the show. Security there can be a bit harsh, so beware of that.

this venue kind of grosses me out because it always seems darka nd dirty to me, even though I don't think it actually is dirty. They do get some good bands and it's right on campus so it's a great place to go if you live in the OSU area. It's a little hardcore, but the people are nice and tickets aren't too expensive, although I don't know that the venue gets too much say in that as it is.

Newport is a wonderful place to see a show! Just small enough that you feel like you are right up close to the bands. Prices are very reasonable, never more than 15 bucks a ticket. Views are good from anywhere in the place and the beverage selection has improved greatly through the years. I love seeing a show there!

My husband recently won tickets to a show at this venue. They offered free parking at the OSU parking garage across the street and it was within walking distance to the venue. We waited in line for a few minutes, after being admitted we were asked if we would be purchasing alcoholic beverages and we responded yes. We were then given bracelets after they viewed our identification. I found it annoying that when we ordered drinks (every single time) from the bar (way overpriced in my opinion) we were carded. Why wear the bracelets in the first place? This place was not what I had expected!

The Newport is a local legend, and it's easy to see why once you step inside. There is hardly a better place to see a show in Columbus, and nearly everyone will get to do just that, given the wide variety of acts that they book. Since the remodeling it's no longer scary to use the restroom, but the place has maintained its gritty, rock and roll feel. Check it out!

I've seen a few good shows here, but a lot of the bands that come through there aren't "my thing." A lot of nu-metal stuff and boring rock or pop rock. Although on a rare occasion they'll have a good hip-hop act or metal act.

I'm generally not one to attend many large arena type shows. While this isn't quite a "large arena," it's still rather big. Many large acts come through here weekly. This is were I caught Opeth a few years ago, which is also the last time I had been there. At that time, it was sort of filthy and you couldn't help but be aesphyxiated by the cigarette smoke in the air. Fortunately, Columbus has put a smoking pan into effect so I'm sure it's much nicer now.

Probably the coolest thing about this venue is that it's an old historical building. It's atleast worth driving by once to take a look at the architecture.

I recently attended a concert at the Newport Music Hall. Everything would have been fine - the music was good, the beer is a little overpriced ($4 for domestics), and it was crowded. The main problem was it was below zero temperatures outside, and they didn't have the heat on!!!! We kept our coats and gloves on but eventually had to leave because it was SO COLD!! Tickets to the concert were $19, so you would think with a couple thousand people there, they would turn up the heat!

I've been to the Newport more times than I can count. It's small, but not cramped. Small enough to offer a personal experience with a band. The sound is great, though bouncers tend to be lame. But who cares about them anyway? The pit's always a good time and a lot of good bands play there. Plus you can just round the corner and meet your favorite artists afterward. I actually gave Joe Gittleman from the Mighty Mighty Bosstones a ride back to his hotel the last time they were in town. Righteous!

Perfect setting for a rock concert. This venue has all the fixings for a classic rock show. Its cathedral build, balcony and "dark" setting gives it all the character in the world. Hopefully it can hold on in the area it's in. The artists seem to perform more naturally here than in a "big, shiny, new venue". The Newport, "keeps it real" if such a term still exists!
