I went to this shop because the original shop that replaced my muffler system owner died. The sign on his shop window stated to go to Midwest Muffler. The issue I was having was smelling exhaust inside my vehicle which was causing me to get headaches. I took my vehicle there and was told that the original work performed had placed hard fixtures to the muffler system and I needed rubber flex piece. I picked my car up that evening and went home and didn't drive it again until the next morning and then at lunch by the time lunch was over and returning to work my car start to sound like a truck. That meaning something was loose within the exhause system making it sound that way. I called and told Tim what had happened and was told to bring the car back in for a diagnosis. I did so that afternoon and was told that the muffler at the exhaust the header and pipe bolts were loose which caused the noise. I asked why could that have happened when my car didn't sound like that before. I was given some reason and then told that it could be fix by adding some other piece within the system where the donut gasket goes between the header and the actual muffler pipe. I was told after the work was done that there was an additional cost for the work. Now understand that this was all within 24 hours of the initial work being performed. On my way home there was still a faint smell of exhaust within the car. I then called this morning to ask who was the owner of the business and was told that they would get back to me with the number. I was called back and provided the information and then called the owner. I started to tell the story to the owner but was not allowed to fully complete it before he became defensive about his employee and the confidence that he had of him. I don't have an issue with standing behing your employee and for tha I applaud him but first hear the complete story of the customer before interrupting. The owners reaction has caused me to make sure that I tell all that I know of my experience with this shop and let them make their own determination as to whether to get work performed there. The pricing was not the issue for me it was the wrong diagnosis and the problem and poor work performed that caused me to go in there a second time. It is also that the work I paid for still has not fixed the problem

Midwest Muffler used to be a small place that I could take my car to for reasonable priced quality work. There are new owners in charge, and I am displeased with their work and the prices have gone through the roof. I was quoted $75 for a job by the previous owner. The new owner quoted $85 and the bill came in at $95 and now I've got to get the work redone.

**Update** I took the car back and expressed my displeasure with the quality of the work performed. They fixed the issue that had not been addressed initally. One of the felllows tried to tell me that they were trying to save me $ by performing the repair as they had initially; the second fellow appologized for not taking care of it correctly the first time. They were both concerned with my satisfaction (they have that going for them, at least). I questioned their choice of replacement part and they assured me that the part was suitable (I'm not sure that I'm completey convinced, especially considering the $50 they charged me for a $20 part, and closer-to-original replacement runs $30).

I have used this location for many years to handle repairs on my car. They do far more than just mufflers--so don't let the name fool you. More importantly, there are honest and reasonable. I have never felt that I was being overcharged or asked to have repairs made that were not needed.
