Let me begin with a little about myself. I drive a beat up car that has been hit approximately 10 times (mostly by uninsured motorists), yet still runs great. I pride myself in being a great driver, as I have never been the cause of an accident and the last ticket I received was one for speeding in 1995. I am a dialysis patient and have long hair, which I grew in order to eventually cut and donate to Locks of Love.

Over the past 6 years or so (since I grew my hair out), I have been stopped several times a year by the Norman police for the most miniscule (and sometimes made up) of offenses. Once I got pulled over for having a 3" crack on the far right side of my windshield. Just prior to being pulled over, the cop was alongside of me at a stop light. After our light turned green, two vehicles going cross way blasted right through the intersection, yet he still pulled ME over.

Every time I get pulled over, it is the same routine. I get asked questions designed to make me incriminate myself (which I don't, because I don't do anything wrong...I don't drink or do drugs), have a hard time getting a straight answer as to why I am being pulled over (It usually boils down to "defective equipment", but they won't tell me specifically what is "defective" nor let me check while they are there), then they take 15 minutes to "write me a warning" that has very little info on it that probably took less than 30 seconds to write. The rest of the time is obviously spent running my name for warrants. Finally, when I press for more information ("what statute am i in violation of", "what exactly is defective?", "Did you find any warrants?", etc.), suddenly they have another important call they have to respond to. Apparently that "other call" wasn't so important that you didn't have time to waste 20 minutes with me.

It has gotten to the point that I am going to buy a video camera just to keep on my person so I can start filming these obvious warrant phishing attempts.

Innocent until proven guilty, my foot...

The cops at NPD are unprofessional and lazy. They don't do anything especially when it comes to major events that happen. For example, my car gets hit by a drunk guy and he leaves the scene of the accident. We got the tag number and everything, and the cop finds him but only gives him a ticket for improper backing. However, every time I got pulled over for a minor traffic stop, I ended up getting harassed. The most recent one was when I ran through a yellow light...I was in a hurry. The cop pulled me over and told me how stupid I was and that I should have known not to run the yellow light. He said I was just a hateful person and had an attitude problem, but I never even had an attitude. I was even nice about it and apologized. He never gave me a ticket because he was in a hurry to another call. Then, he told me that I should get on my hands and knees and thank him for what he did for me. Really. It's like they are too lazy and let stuff go when it comes to major stuff, but over minor stuff, they like to harass you and play these childless mind games. When I make a formal compliant about any of the problems that I have faced, it doesn't seem like the problems get resolved. They need to go get some training done on communication skills and doing their job the right way.

My son, a second year OU studnet who has never been in trouble of any kind and is a top student was studying for exams and left his apartment to go to the corner store to get a soda. He proceeded to leave the store and forgot to put on his headlights (11:00 pm). He was quickly pulled over by two Norman police officers. They asked him if he had been drinking or if he was on drugs. He adamently said NO. They continued to harrass him putting him through numerous sobriety tests while holding a flashilight to his eyes. They continued to accuse him of being on drugs and that he was a liar and they were going to arrest him anyway so "man up". He told them he would take any test and that they could search his car. They pushed him onto the back of there car and patted him down, while they went through his car. Found nothing so they called in a canine unit. They found nothing. This is our tax dollars well spent. Norman police are Bullies and profile clean cut white male OU students. My son was extremely upset with the treatment from these officers and at a time he should be focussed on his exams.
I view this type of treatment no different than being harassed by a street thug, as these officers had no probable cause and appeared to get there rocks off on the fact they were upsetting my son, The one officer kept toting he just took a course on how to detect if someone is stoned, maybe he should pay attention in class.
After they let him go back to his car they had all of his belongings out on the truck of his car, one officer told him to get in the car while the other officer yelled at him to pick up his belonging. The canine officer told him that his dog smelled something and that he was never wrong and when he didn't find anything he got upset with my son that he would have to fill out a report that his dog was wrong and this never happend before. Man up and tell us where the goods are.
These three officers had a ball playing mind games with an innocent teen age college student. BIG MEN.
I am planning on filing a formal complaint with the Norman police department.

I have lost faith in npd.I had my identity stolen and had a person forge my name and accept meds. pkg. and open it, which is a fed. offense, and was told i had no case. So if you need the npd, your sh t outta luck.I even found the person who stole my identity and npd said they didn't know who did it. You can lead npd to the water but they won't drink. THANKS FOR LETTING THESE PEOPLE GET AWAY WITH CRIMES,WHEN I DID THE WORK OF TRACKING THEM DOWN.IF YOU NEED NPD,YOU MIGHT AS WELL TAKE CARE OF IT YOUR SELF.SORRY NO STARS FOR NPD.

Awful, awful, awful. I've had to call 3 times in the last six months due to physical domestic disputes between my trashy, drunken downstairs neighbors. The officer always takes 20+ minutes to arrive, and the worst has usually died down by that time. No report gets made, then the neighbors tell my landlord that I called the police on them for nothing, and I get reprimanded. I am at my wits' end! Thanks for NOTHING, Norman PD!

I have had to deal with the Norman police department recently and it has been my worst experience of dealing with any agency be it Government or Private. I had my car towed and I went promptly to get the paper work done and get this thing taken care of. But whoever the officer who was responsible for towing hadn't reported back at all. I was waiting there for more than 2 hours and nothing happened. That officer also couldn't be reached by any means including mobile phone, home phone etc. That is ridiculous. There was no guaranteed time frame within which the record would be available. So it was a nightmare dealing with them, since I had to depend on others for my ride now.

How dare they be prompt in towing my car and they be so lethargic, reckless and irresponsible in even getting the records in place for me to get whatever the service. This is insane and outrageous.

All in all this is a totally irresponsible behavior from a supposed to be the most responsible department in town. Go figure.
