My experience with Dr John Calhoun a few months back was not good. He has zero bedside manner and came at the foster dog I had brought in with a needle without first acknowledging the dog or me. Since the dog growled at him and showed his teeth(wouldn't you?),he immediately told me I needed to have the dog put down and something about the dog having a brain disorder. I tell you who has the brain disorder......Dr John Calhoun.

Dr.Calhoun is the best.He has saved two of my cats life one I adopted from the animal shelter that was very sick when i got her. Now my senior cat has hyperthyroidism. He is very caring and quick to act when a cat is sick. My cat with the hyperthyroid had been seen by another vet and they didn't want to do testing they just said she was old and skinny, but when I took her to Dr.Calhoun he took one look at her and said it's the thyroid tested to confirm and started the meds. I will always recommend this kind man.

I would definately recommend Dr. Calhoun and Dr. Snyder. I bought a new puppy when she was 6 weeks old, a week later she was having difficulty "going", or should I say "not going", and it got to the point that it looked like she had hemroids because she was pushing so hard. I didn't have a vet in mind and it was late at night so I took her to the nearest After Hours Clinic. 2 enemas, a radiograph and $200 later the After Hours Clinic told me that she ate too much and didn't "go" enough and she was stopped up. I thought she was wrong because I didn't give her more than the recommended amount for a puppy, but none-the-less I gave her even smaller portions.
At 8 weeks, I took her to Dr. Calhoun her for 8 week puppy shots. Told him about taking her to the After Hours Clinic and he picked up the dog, looked at me and told me she has a hernia. He showed it to me and sure enough, it was clear as day. He also told me that was why she was having problems because the hernia was pushing on her insides and making it difficult to go. He also said when I get her spayed he could fix the hernia at the same time.
The puppy also got "Cherry eye" and he did her surgery to correct it.
Dr. Calhoun told me more about my dog in 5 minutes than the After Hours Clinic did in 4 hours and they didn't even mention the hernia, but they took me for my money.

The best. I've used many vets in the metro area over the years, but Dr. Calhoun, Susan, Dawn, and the rest of the staff are far and away the best. Dr. Calhoun is knowledgable, understanding, and will take time to explain details and answer my questions. (Quite funny too!)

He does not sell you expensive medications when the drugstore will do, and doesn't suggest unnecessary testing or procedures. In other words, he's honest. The prices are reasonable - lower than most. Most of all, they make me feel like family and that they truly care about my "kids".

We have been using Rock Knoll since 1972. After Dr. Adams retired we got the pleasure to meet Dr. John Calhoun, his wife Susan and the other staff. Dawn has been with Rock Knoll since Dr. Adams was there and is an expert. She remembers every ones name and their dog/cat too. Dr. Calhoun is tops in our book because he is very understanding, kind and knowledgeable. He is always available to educate you on what ever problem might be going on with your pet. We recommend him highly.

I've been taking my 2 cats to Dr Calhoun for almost 3 years now. I have always had a pleasant experience with him! His staff is very friendly and helpful as well! Prices are very reasonable and his expertise is honest and sincere. I've even taken an animal in that I found on the street and he treated the kitten and helped me adopt him out!

I've been involved with animal welfare for 5 years now and have visited many vets in the metro area. Dr. Calhoun and his staff are among the best. His prices are very reasonable and affordable compared to many other vets around town. Dr. Calhoun and Dr. Carey are very kind, caring and knowledgeable. They have a wonderful staff. The office is clean and contrary to a previous posting I've seen the office quite busy but they do schedule appropriately to minimize traffic in the lobby.

We have been to several vets trying to find one we could trust. We cannot imagine finding a better vet than Dr. Calhoun. I think his prices are comparable, but him and his staff are exceptional. Other vets are like car mechanics and have tried to charge me for treatments my dogs did not need just because they knew I didn't know any better. Not only costing me money but putting my dogs through needless treatments. (example below). His office is clean and I think the reason ithey did not seem busy to the previous reviewer is because they do not overbook appointments. They plan their day well and get you in at your reserved time instead of having you sit in a crowded waiting room.

Another vet in town told me my puppy had parvo and charged me over $1000 for treatment for 1 night, I took the dog to Dr. Calhoun the next day who told me my dog didnt have parvo. He not only treated my dog for what was wrong at no additional cost but called that vet and tried to get me some of my money back.

Dr. Calhoun is a great vet and staff are caring and knowledgeable. We have found the prices to be in-line with other vets in the city and I would strongly recommend this clinic. They have been seeing all of our animals, dog, cats, rats, for the past several years. Our dog likes to go there and boards there regularly.

Great recommendation.

A nice small place with good people working there.
Ive never had any problems with taking my dog here, we have always had good service and in reasonable time .
It isnt my first recommendation though because of the prices , it seemed kind of steep and though they werent empty they didnt seem very busy and i assume this is why .
Its good in a pince but i wouldnt recommend it .
