Like a few of the others I've known Ron for over 30 years, long before he moved his business into a store front. The "Honest" moniker is accurate and he can be honest to a fault at times, but I'd personally rather have that than to have someone blowing smoke as they say.

His repair work is excellent , and he'll take the time to discuss any questions you'd have concerning your instrument or repairs needed. He is a "one-man" shop and stays very busy with repairs, custom building instruments, refinishing instruments, ect....

Seems there have been a few complaints here about his taking vacations. I guess some people are just selfish and don't expect someone to have a life of their own, or other interests.

There have only been two people that have worked on my instruments in my over 40 years of playing guitar, the first one retired and Ron is the other and I don't have any plans of changing that anytime soon.

About the comment one lady had concerning Ron and her gaining weight. He's happily married and you must have a "self image" issue.

I've seen people come into his shop that have driven from out of state to use his services (that must mean something).

His shop is only open three days a week, this is because many jobs require machinery that won't fit in a small shop. The other days he's working in his main workshop at home where as he calls his "Massive cast iron wood working tools" are located.

Many musicians in the Oklahoma area that have left their instruments for repair at their local retail music store don't realize that most of those instruments are taken to Ron for repair.

His work is "Top Notch" and if you have an issue with something he's worked on he'll take the time to keep doing it till you're satisfied.

Ron replaced the pickups in my Strat in '07 and I was very happy with the work he did. Seven years later everything still works fine but I wanted the tremolo bridge adjusted to float and a SD SSL-5 pickup installed in the bridge. Ron did the work in a week and the guitar sounds fantastic. Bottom line: Ron still does great work at a very reasonable price.

great price, great service. Ron went above and beyond for me. this was my first visit and I came in with a very sick bass guitar, he rewired it, unbent the metal covering plate, reattached a knob, replaced a battery and input jack for me, and cost me about 1/2 of what I was expecting to pay. my bass hasn't played this well in about 3 years. i'm ecstatic. thanks Ron!

Having been in the OKC area since the late 60s and playing guitar for most of this time, I've used "Honest Ron" for several repairs and set ups over the years. The last thing I had him do was install a neck and perform a set up on my Strat with a Floyd Rose tremolo. The neck needed some cleanup work on the frets, which I asked him to do. I remember opening the case and seeing the floating bridge sticking way up in the air. The frets were never touched. It was the last time I used him and will never send another cent his way.

As a follow up to another poster, I stand on what I've said before. Maybe when the economy took a dump Ron got "Honest" and humbled, but I've known plenty of "local" people (professional and bedroom players alike) other than myself that have the same opinion. Just keep on doing business with Ron and shell out your hard earned dough until he starts taking you and your money for granted and the real "Ron" shows his "true" colors. Ron is not a player and has only the $$$$ on his mind, and don't forget every summer his store is closed for extended periods of time so that he may watch trains in Colorado whilst leaving his customers hanging.

I have known Ron for over 30 years, and he has always been true to his name - He is honest to a fault, and sometimes brutally honest! I have never known him to engage in any questionable or unethical practices, although I cannot say the same for all of his customers!
He is a first class-luthier, and talented repairman of both stringed instruments and tube amplifiers. His prices are remarkably fair, and on some items, a steal.
Ron is highly recommended for all your stringed instrument needs! Stop by and talk to him for a little while and see if you don't agree!

I have gone to... not so Honest Ron's for years. He was always great in the past and fixed my instruments for cheap or sometimes free. He was flirty, but nice and went the extra mile.

5 years later, I suppose I gained a little weight and he didn't remember me. He put passive pickups instead of active ones in. He overcharged me too.

I could have gotten the actives on Ebay for less. I think he thought I was some dumb fat chick and I wouldn't know any better. I felt humiliated and embarrassed. I asked him 2 or three times that the price he quoted me WAS for active ones....BEFORE he put them in. When I picked it up, I played it and I thought it sounded crappy.....I thought it COULD be the amp though and didn't make a fuss and I was in a hurry. HE assured me they were actives. They are not. I got ripped off. Worse though, I felt like a stupid fat chick some douchey McGee got over on.

Ron, you made me feel cheap. The original pickups sounded better too! I should have kept them! :(

"gregg_n" must be talking about another Ron. I've been trading with Ron for twenty plus years and gregg_n's rating just does not fit the Ron in OKC that I know.

You would have to cross several state boundaries to find someone that came close to Ron on service and price (if they even exist).

I've been doing business with Honest Rons guitars for about 30 years. He has done guitar repair and modification for me, done it well, and at a reasonable price. While this store carries an inventory of custom, new and used instruments, its specialty is repair and modification of guitars. I've had quite a bit of work done there in the past decades, and I've been very happy with it. Did I say prices were reasonable? I recently wanted a specific set of pickups for one of my guitars. The on-line discounters were charging $94.50 each plus shipping. Ron charged $100 each -- installation included. This business is unique, as it is the only one I know of in this area that specializes in guitar repair and modification -- as well as custom built guitars. Ron has also been very good at selling my used and unneeded musical equipment at a fair commission and at a fair price.

As Ron and I are both getting up in years, I am fully retired and Ron is open only on Mon., Wed., and Fri. Also, Ron likes to take several vacations per years, and it's a one-man operation so his store is closed then too. Despite this, he does his work very quickly. "Fret leveling? Two days". "New pickups? Two days".

This business is an authorized warranty service center for such brands as Martin, Gibson, and Fender -- and more. While Ron doesn't have time to engage in long conversations with customers that are not relevant to the work at hand, he is always ready to answer questions about the work you want done.

This is not the kind of store where you can go with a specific make and model of guitar in mind and find it. It's too small for that -- thus my four star rating instead of five. But for repairs, modifications, and related parts, and advice on such matters, Rons is where I go.

I haven't dealt with Ron in years, but I've probably known him at least 30 yrs. Contrary to some boot licker reviews, Ron is not honest, or at least in his past he was not (I would definitely remove the Honest from his moniker). I paid for a custom guitar with figured maple which he let me handpick, and then substituted for plain maple. Then Ron had the (brass balls) to try and make me believe it was figured beneath the sanding job that he was about to start in on. He shorted me on some neck planks that I had him cut from raw hard wood, and the list goes on and on with negative experiences from me as well as his other customers, but it would be an utter waste of breath to list them all here. I guess that's why most of his work is now out of state (most other non-local people haven't experienced him yet). Ron's work is substandard, expensive, and he could really give a damn. Just pay him in "American Dollars" his favorite cliche, rest assured his heart has NEVER been in his work and many unfortunately will find out the hard way.

A step back in time to the old hole-in-the-wall guitar store. Ron is an institution. Great place for finding vintage gear and having guitars modified. Just don't expect a lot of chit chat with Ron--he's busy in the back making and modifying guitars.
