My dad bought the original St. Mike's back in 1962 and kept it thriving for close to 20 years. It became a great place to eat, drink and enjoy the atmosphere. It was a place to take your date, enjoy a nice, casual meal, drink exotic coffees & teas and enjoy wonderful desserts. Everyone in Tulsa knew about the restaurant and most took the time to enjoy it. After 20 years in the restaurant business, my dad decided to sell it and relax a little.

Once St. Mike's was sold, the new owners started tweaking the food items and, over time, changed the ambience of the restaurant. Some changes might have been good but, having the restaurant under the same name probably surprised those who came expecting what they had enjoyed for so many years. Slowly but surely, the restaurant slid further away from the original concept to an entirely different direction.

The location is now occupied by Ricks Cafe Americana. The interior has been changed. The high-backed booths are now gone, there is a bar on a side wall and the only similarity is the wood paneling on the walls.

The memories are still alive and come rushing back whenever I hear Brubeck's "Take 5" or The Kingston Trio's "Scotch & Soda." It was a great place that many Tulsans remember fondly.

They closed due to a decline in clientele. There is no store front property on a busy street and all the regulars were getting older. The new owners from last year tried to revive it but the previous owner had put NO money into it in years. Sorry to see it go.

After almost 50 years and several owners, St. Michael's Alley closed at some point last month. The restaurant had been going downhill steadily in that past year or so, but it is sad that such a great place with so much history has gone the way of Nelsons Buffeteria, Bell's Amusement Park, and Starship records and tapes. I can only hope that someone purchases the restaurant and restores it to what it was 2 or 3 years ago.

I have been going to this place for a long time. They have the best Pastrami on rye that I have ever had and you must get it with their hot German potato salad its great. On top of this wonderful sandwich they also have great fish specials. A full service bar in the back and a great atmosphere. This is definitely a locals place because nobody stumbles upon this restaurant tucked in the corner.

The best Ribeye I've ordered out!!! Great Margarita's, too. Very reasonable in price.
