For a small-town paper the News-Press is barely adaquate. As a busy-body and former reporter, I know how much news the News-Press does not report, not out of censorship, but out of incompetence.
They do not cover anything that happens after 4 o'clock or on weekends. It is difficult getting them into the suburbs and then they don't report but merely repeat what they are told. And they are biased when cpllecting information.
They don't send photographers under normal conditions.
When I was in Reporter School we were told to write on a 6th-grade level. Their reporters do this quite well, but a 6th-grader in 2010 writes much different than a 6th-grader did in 1985 or 1995.

I live in Yale and the only reporter we could ever get from the Stillwater press seemed to think his job required stopping in and getting the "real" story from Roger McMillian former disgraced Mayor of Stillwater and now firmly hedged in legal consultant drawing down pay for the politicos in Yale proper.
The present Bored of Commisioners as it is seated now
has arbitrarily decided that all public notices should be put
in the local paper...ie the Stillwater Press rather than For The Record; a locally owned and operated newspaper located in Yale city limits...(as is required). I have always seen the press as the defender of truth and counter check against corruption and tyranny. I find it disquiting that the so called leadership of Yale does not do interviews, does not answer questions, does not hold open town meeting and holds such obvious arrogant contempt for For The Record that a sitting city Mayor, Pam Coke would hold up the paper and call for a boycott while in a gaveled in City meeting. A sitting Mayor calling for the shut down of a free press.
Any word or connection from Stillwater press has been
all quiet on the western front of Yale.
Sincerely submitted,
Neils

While the Stilllwater newspress is the only local newspaper, they are decent at best. The paper itself is pretty good, having good local news, events, and such, but its staff sometimes are aggravating. I was not alway receiving all my inserts, coupons, and such, and trying to get them was like pulling teeth. Each time I called the receptionist, she was completely unhelpfull and unknowledgeable, and when I finally did speak to someone to help me, they never did fix the many problems I had! Now, I just buy the paper when I need it, instead of wasting my time an money on a daily, unreliable delivery.

Stillwater newspress is a typical local newspaper. The positive things are that the TV Guide and the coupons they are handing out with the paper. The drawbacks are they are too Christian, do not represent other religious denominations really. The location is close to downtown and there are enough parking spots I think, but the place definitely could use some more decoration. Old and dirty looking building and not very clean indoor facilities actually.
