Apparently I opened up a account here? I have never tanned ever. I am Irish and don't tan period. I called and these people and they wouldn't help at all and transferred me to collections to a account I never opened and offered no help at all. For customer serviced alone these people should be shut down. What type of POS company is this.

The first time I went in the help spent a lot of time with me. There is a lot to know about tanning. They didn't ask me what I wanted they showed me all the different beds and explained them to me. There was a lot of good information. I selected the middle level or bed. I purchased a year I have been going about 3 months I go twice a week. Works for me.

I have only tanned at small tanning stores. I was so awded by everything At The Beach has. I tanned in a big bed that had a sensor on it and actually measured my pigment and custom set the bed. The technogy is futuristic. Can't wait to go back.

Okay first of all these reviews are all supposed to be from consumers...not the employees trying to raise the rating...thank you very much. Which if you notice all the positive ratings pretty much sound like someone who works for them. Its cool man just makes you look even sleezier.

Okay so I haven't had a problem with the people who actually work there, except for the guy who signed me up. He was fired shortly after for misleading people? And not meeting numbers. He told me I could cancel my contract at any time by just paying a fee of 75$. Turns out the only way you can cancel is if you move far away enough from a location. Well I did and I took the appropriate steps to proove that I had, I faxed in a copy of my drivers license with my new address and the 75$. Well I stopped receiving notifications from them completely. So I assumed everything went okay. Now 2 years later I'm getting phone calls that I owe 1200 still?! This is bull! And there is no way for them to check into it now because they sent my account to collections. I hate this company now. And I'm pretty much just going to wait for the company to collapse in utter dispair. Its inevitible. Just thought id share my story. Atb minions why don't you go tan instead of write false positive reports. Its all your good for at this point.

just want to first off say ATB is AWESOME!!! for all you people out there hating on atb the issues y'all ran into are things that were made up by YOU!! 75% of you customers lie. when you say you guys NEVER knew y'all were in contract.....BS BECAUSE YOU SIGNED THE PAPERWORK.... and as for the lady who said "a girl admitted her own fault....BS we never admit fault and none of our employees would EVER risk their job with something as stupid as forging legal documents. you know you signed that agreement each and everytime you did it!! we are an OUTSTANDING company and we have the credintials to prove it!! we are AAA+ accredited by the BBB for the last 10 years and we have the highest customer satisfaction rating in the tanning industry and we are the leader!! so stop being a hater .....we dont want you as a member anyway!! it's people like you that make our job suck.....we work for a living just like you probably do and this is our job and WE LOVE IT!! NO ONE IS GOING TO BAD MOUTH OUR COMPANY!!!

They are horrible DO NO SIGN A CONTRACT!!! My contract was about up when I received a letter in the mail thanking me for signing a new contract, which I never signed! I had to make many phone calls, wait on the phone for EVER, and then fax a copy of my ID to compare signatures. Finally, they determined that the signatures DID NOT MATCH. They cancelled the contract. After going into the store to find out how my name got signed onto a new contract, a worker admitted that she had another customer sign it because she made a computer error. She makes a computer error and then decides to sign a new 12 month contract in my name??? I reported her but then another new contract showed up on my online account! I had to call them to fix that as well. After stopping by a law office they agreed to take my bank account info off their computer and let me pay my last to payments in store b/c they just want to keep signing me up for new contract to have the payment drafted out of my account without my permission! I HATE THIS COMPANY! They are rude and sneaky!

The site "AtTheBeachSucks" nicely describes many of my complaints with At the Beach. In November, 2008, my son signed a 2-year contract at the 61st & Memorial location in Tulsa, Oklahoma. In the fall of 2009, my son relocated to Stillwater and attempted to cancel his contract, which he was assured would be a simple matter. It was not a simple matter at all in that the oral representations of the staff directly conflicted with the contract. I would like to mention that my son has an uncorrectable vision condition called congenital nystagmus. He was therefore relying upon the oral representations of the At the Beach staff. We attempted to contact customer service, which turned out to be a complete waste of time. In fact, the customer service representative hung up and would not answer my telephone calls. We are now being dogged by their collection agency, Aspen Sun Financial, since we had to close the bank account from which At the Beach was crediting a monthly fee. We have attempted to resolve this through the 61st & Memorial location, but the representative there told us that there was no one there who could help us and that our best bet was contacting customer service or sending an email. She could not provide an email address or phone number, however. She suggested that we find the contact information from their web site. We are seeing that At the Beach was the defendant in a class-action lawsuit in Colorado. I am curious as to whether one has been filed in Oklahoma. We are also seeing that they have a D- rating with the Better Business Bureau.

At The Beach is a rip off - WASTE OF MONEY!!!! Poor customer service, be prepared to wait over an hour just to tan, not enough staff to assist customers. Staff won't tell you how to work the spray tan booth, figure it out yourself. Employee said spray tan would last at least a week, it barely lasted 2 days. Evidently there are different levels or kinds of spray tan - another customer had to advise me of all this & then told me to tell the employee which level I wanted. Pretty sad. Don't bother writing ATB customer service, they don't care to hear complaints, won't offer to make it right - they could care less about customers, JUST WANT YOUR MONEY! Once you give it to them, you'll never see it again, no matter the circumstances!

Attorney General announces agreement barring tanning chain from misleading consumers during sales process

DENVER ?? Colorado Attorney General John Suthers announced today that the state has reached a settlement with the Oklahoma-based tanning chain At The Beach that resolves allegations that the company misled consumers about its tanning contracts. The agreement requires At The Beach to pay an estimated $350,000 in consumer restitution, fines and attorney fees and requires that At The Beach halt its deceptive sales practices and record all of its future sales.

??This agreement is a victory for the hundred of Colorado consumers who felt that At The Beach was not engaging in fair sales practices,? Suthers said. ??We believe the company??s agreement to record all sales transactions will deter future misconduct, and is evidence of the company??s desire to change its sales practices.?

At The Beach allowed its employees to misrepresent that consumers could ??cancel their contract at any time,? according to the state??s complaint. Former employees and consumers told investigators that the company failed to disclose that cancellation would require payment of half of the remaining cost of the contract. Consumers also said they first learned of the cancellation fee when they attempted to cancel.

Consumers will be eligible for restitution if they have already filed a written complaint with the Colorado Attorney General??s office or the Better Business Bureau. The Office of the Attorney General estimates that more than $100,000 will be refunded to more than 300 past At The Beach customers. The company also will be required to pay an additional $75,000 to the state to be used to reimburse consumers who file complaints going forward.

The settlement also requires At The Beach to pay a $75,000 fine and $38,500 to cover the costs of the investigation. At The Beach has already reimbursed Colorado consumers approximately $45,000 as a result of the state??s investigation into At The Beach??s credit and collection practices.

DO NOT GO TO AT THE BEACH!!!!!!! i signed a one year contract in janary 09. they would not let me cancel jan 10 because my year was not up?!?! It would not be up until march 10? Third graders do better math than them. They filled out incorrect dates on the contract which voids the contract but still held me to the march cancellation date. I decided it was not a big deal and cancelled in march. Come june I receive calls stating I will be sent to collections for a balance owed on the account for March until June. Again they would not honor it stating I did not cancel. I went in to my nearest location filled out the paperwork again and was assured everything was paid in full and settled. Surprise, surprise Dec 10 I was charged over 200 dollars on my card for June to Dec. I had to go in to the location three times!!!! The first two girls tell me my account has never been cancelled even with my paperwork showing it had been. Finally I got a manager who informed me my account is paid in full but still being charged every month and it "was like super weird". The people that work for this place are literally as smart as the people on their commercials. To make everything even better I only tanned there twice! Their facilities are absolutely terrible!!! Unless you want months of headaches, extreme frustration and to be charged for months after your commitment is up!!!! STAY AWAY!!!!!

At the beach lied about the freeze on three months. they are continuing to bill me for the freeezes that i payed to stop. they are only nice before you deny them of "special offers" the moment you say "no thanks" you are treated like dirt to them. each time i tried to call and complain that they are still bbilling me after my contract is up, i got two different reasons both times i called. one reason was that you have to go in to cancel your contract even if it ends, which doesnt make sense since i am not signed to pay after the end of my contract. the second reason was that i had to pay three more months since i froze my account, yet in store when i was signing up i was told "you can freeze for three months, but you cant tan. your contract will end in october, your last payment will be september" its november almost and they give me stupid reason after stupid reason.

The took $35 from my sister and tried to give her "tanning products" to make the situation right. The froze my account for 3 months, but continued to bill me, then offered to put an extra month of tanning on my bill at the end of my contract. They sold me the worst lotion that left me like a leopard after using Versa Spa and wouldn't take the lotion back or make the situation right. I looked crazy for a week. They will never correct problems with the customer, but they will take your money.

I went into ATB for a "free week" pass....before i could even walk to see the beds they told me i had to be told about the contracts.....after about 30 minutes or so i agreed to sign up for 1 year which included the fitness center and mystic tan also....later i found out that my contract got extended to 3 yrs WITHOUT my permission.....very shortly after i got into a bad wreck which required 6 reconstructive surgeried on my face(which you can imaging was VERY expensive).....my surgion told me i had to completelt stay out of the sun and couldnt lift ANYTHING above 5 lbs due to the risk of straining my facial muscles that were tyring to heal after being re-built.......this being said it was out of the question to use the tanning or fitness center.....we contacted the corprate office and they precedded to tell me there was NO way out of the contract(which the person that had me sign it told me the termination fee was $200) and that i would have to continue to pay FULL price for 2 years i DIDNT sign up for.....I had my Doctor write a letter to the office telling them of my extensive surgeries and all the costs so they would terminate my contract.....they declined....so just trying to maybe get them to only take off the fitness and tanning, leaving the 25 a month for the spray tan.....they declined once again......a few months after my surgeries when i was released to start using tread mills and LIGHT workouts...i went in to use the fitness i was paying for....they told me even thow i was paying for it their was a note on my account that said NOT to allow use of tanning beds or the fitness center, i was only allowed to spray tan...i bit my tongue and just said "fine..ill just do that then" on my way back i could hear the girls talking about my face and comparing me to monsters in movies and saying that i shouldnt be allowed in public......HOW CAN THAT BE ALLOWED??? they are a TOTAL scam and SOMETHING needs to be done......THEY PREY ON PEOPLE no matter the situation and they find ways of making you pay for something you DID NOT sign up for.........ANY ONE WHO READS THIS- PLEASE DO NOT LET YOURSELF GET CAUGHT IN THIS HORRIBLE WEB.

I went into ATB for a "free week" pass....before i could even walk to see the beds they told me i had to be told about the contracts.....after about 30 minutes or so i agreed to sign up for 1 year which included the fitness center and mystic tan also....later i found out that my contract got extended to 3 yrs WITHOUT my permission.....very shortly after i got into a bad wreck which required 6 reconstructive surgeried on my face(which you can imaging was VERY expensive).....my surgion told me i had to completelt stay out of the sun and couldnt lift ANYTHING above 5 lbs due to the risk of straining my facial muscles that were tyring to heal after being re-built.......this being said it was out of the question to use the tanning or fitness center.....we contacted the corprate office and they precedded to tell me there was NO way out of the contract(which the person that had me sign it told me the termination fee was $200) and that i would have to continue to pay FULL price for 2 years i DIDNT sign up for.....I had my Doctor write a letter to the office telling them of my extensive surgeries and all the costs so they would terminate my contract.....they declined....so just trying to maybe get them to only take off the fitness and tanning, leaving the 25 a month for the spray tan.....they declined once again......a few months after my surgeries when i was released to start using tread mills and LIGHT workouts...i went in to use the fitness i was paying for....they told me even thow i was paying for it their was a note on my account that said NOT to allow use of tanning beds or the fitness center, i was only allowed to spray tan...i bit my tongue and just said "fine..ill just do that then" on my way back i could hear the girls talking about my face and comparing me to monsters in movies and saying that i shouldnt be allowed in public......HOW CAN THAT BE ALLOWED??? they are a TOTAL scam and SOMETHING needs to be done......THEY PREY ON PEOPLE no matter the situation and they find ways of making you pay for something you DID NOT sign up for.........ANY ONE WHO READS THIS- PLEASE DO NOT LET YOURSELF GET CAUGHT IN THIS HORRIBLE WEB.

I ended up getting so burnt in the bed that supposedly can't burn you that I was still peeling two weeks later. When I requested a refund from corporate for the remaining money on my account I was given the run around for 2 1/2 weeks and then told that because I didn't fill out the correct form in time that they could not issue a refund. Going here is an astronomical waste of money. I have never been treated with such disregard as I was by At the Beach nor have I ever encountered such bad and shady business practices. Take my advice and go ANYWHERE else but there.

I bet I've paid a good 300 dollars on lotion and little things from them annoying little girls in there. Well, that's not my complaint. I went to tan one morning and I was listening to my music. God forbid! I forgot my over-priced face lotion in the angel bed and didnt realize it until the next time I went to tan. Well, long story short one of the girls that was working that day got my brand new over-priced facial lotion to keep!! They said there was nothing that they could do! I know they kept it! Just HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE!!!!! What if that would have been my wedding rings?!?! Let me guess....they could find that either! Also, i just got an email from at the beach saying that customers that sign up NOW, for all access tanning (which is what i have) is only $55/month. Thats fiv dollars cheaper than mine. I called and i still have to pay 60! bull crap!! And now from reading all of these reviews im afraid of when my contract ends bc they wont want to quit pulling money out of my account! Great! : BBB needs to get involved and shut this place down. Where's the ethics in this kind of business?!?!??

I will continue to tan At Touch Of Sun in Owasso. Friday I went to At The Beach for the first time assuming I could just try it out with zero issues. Not the case at all! I was trying to get my finances in check for the first time in a long time, so I was going to freeze my account with At the Beach. I went into a store and the girl that helped me, knew that I had a balance on my account and still had me fill out the paperwork to freeze the account. By me filling out, signing and the employee signing the "freeze contract", I assumed that I just froze my account for the next 3 months. Little did I know, they were still attempting to take money out of my checking account. When I called Customer Service to find out my balance, which I was assuming was about $65, turned out to be almost $200! When I asked them why my balance was so high, they proceeded to tell me that my account was never frozen and they were still trying to get payment from me. The girl I spoke to said she would take off 2 of the late charges for me and give 3 months credit for tanning since I was not tanning for the 3 months that I "thought" my account was frozen for. Well that does me absolutley no good. How can a contract signed by an employee not be valid just because she told me wrong??? And why am I being held financially responsible for a mistake they made?? I can not tell you how many times I have tried to get ahold of them to try to get this taken care of, and all I get when I call Customer Service is an automated voicemail. They say to leave a message and someone will contact you shortly. They have never returned any of my ohone calls or e-mails. They must not be too concerned about it or they would call me to take care of this. Great customer service, huh?

BEWARE!!! They will take all your money!! Most people's complaint is that they can't get out of their contract. I however finished my contract and have in writing from the company that it has been fulfilled and my bank account would no longer be drafted. Yeah right! I have since had to change banks to get them to stop stealing my money. Now they've threatened to send my to collections. I have filed a complaint with the BBB and am seriously considering getting an attorney. DO NOT USE THIS FACILITY IF YOUR LIFE DEPENDS ON IT!

I signed a contract with this company when I was pregnant with my 2nd child. I signed up for mystic tanning and was told that if I wanted to change to regular tanning after I had my child that would be no problem. I ended up hating the mystic tan and when I went to change to regular tanning was told I would have to sign another contract. This company is ridiculous.

not only was i a member of atb for two years but i also worked there for a long and painful three months after my contract came to an end. i figured free tanning was worth it. OMG it was the most scandelous company iv ever been in contact with. they even MADE us go to classes without pay that taught us how to respond to customers with bold face lies yet desguise them. they said if you get caught then just say it was a mistake. if we didnt meet our quota on lotion then we were fired. thats why atb employees are sooooo annoying. our jobs depend on it! i ended up quiting shortly after being hired because they were not paying me for all the hours i worked and were holding money out of my paycheck that my manager had failed to deposit. they are all liars and not to mention the rudest group of people i was ever around. my tip to customers... dont tan there.

They don't care who you are, or which contract you signed, if you give them your credit card numbers they will charge you EVERY month until you call them about it and then they give you the run around with corporate and all that business. Find a local salon that wont screw you over.

I interruped an iphone texting child to ask about one session..and basically she kept checking her phone and telling me I had to sign a contract. I just WANTED ONE TAN...told me to fill out this form and the FORM was a contract.. I walked out and went across the streeet...So glas I did!

Just called their corporate offices because I've had some pre-cancerous spots come up on my face since starting tanning.. just had one taken off. The ONLY option open to me is to pay 1/2 the remaining balance ($178.75) OR upgrade to the spray tan (no UV).

DEFINITELY not upgrading for an orange tan.. just wish they'd been up front with me when I signed up for this.

This place is evil. I just wanted to tan for a month but the girl who helped me secretly filled out a month to month contract agreement without telling me first! So I ask her if I had just signed a contract or what? She says you can just cancel it, so I asked her for a cancellation form and she said I could get it the next time....I guess part of their strategy is hoping you will forget to cancel. So then she asks if I have eye wear and I say no, she pulls out a bucket and tells me to choose a color and then tacks on another $6 again without telling me first! Every time I would come into to tan after that I would have my arms full with my purse, cell phone, keys and a change of clothes to go to work from school, and the obnoxious white eyeliner girl has the nerve to ask to see my eye wear, like I'm a child who doesn't know better than to cover my eyes when I tan, I paid for them...why wouldn't I have them!!?? After this happens to me about 3 times I ask her why she asks me this EVERY time, she says, "the FDA says you must wear goggles"...Then why can't they provide them?? Oh thats right they are too busy trying to rip everyone off than to provide good customer service! Oh and the one time I forget my goggles I have to pay 51 cents for a pair of stickers AND they write the date on the stickers so you can't use them again, like they are in fear of someone using them twice. Seriously??!!! And not to mention they ask me to buy lotion EVERY SINGLE time I come in there, and every time I tell them I don't have the money but they still hassle me. I hate this place!!! I cringe every time I walk in there and see those annoying girls that are WAY too tan. When my contract is up I will never step foot in an ATB again and I mean it!!! So tell everyone you know how evil this place is.

I was living in Norman when I was introduced to ATB for the first time. I told the manager that was trying to sign me up for a 2yr contract that I would be moving to Stillwater in a few months. He just pushed the issue aside and told me 'that was no problem' that you could tan at any ATB anywhere! I was pumped because I loved the bed I tanned in for the free trial! Before signing I made him assure me that there was one in Stillwater. He promised and said he knew a good buddy that lived there.
I just moved. There is NO ATB IN STILLWATER. Never has been. I went back to the Norman store to find out that the manager was fired because of dishonesty. I thought surely they would help me cancel this membership that I can't use now that I've moved. All they said was 'sorry, he wasn't a very good person.' 'We can't do anything about it. Corp. wont let us cancel any contract'
So now I have to go through the 50 steps of canceling it myself along with $75. I am so surprised that after reading all the negative posts that they are still in business. DO NOT SIGN A CONTRACT WITH THIS COMPANY!

I was told I could freeze the account for a fee and that although money would continue to be removed from my bank account, I could still receive 24 months of tanning. I used 4 months before freezing the account because I did not wish to tan in the winter. When I returned to unfreeze the account, all went well until I froze the account a second time and was not told I could only freeze for 90 days. When I returned to unfreeze my account, I found that my membership had expired. I paid over a thousand dollars for a few months of mystic tan, which is better than skin cancer, but is a sloppy, sloppy system. be warned!

I've been going to At The Beach on 61st and Memorial for 2 months now. I've had a pretty good experience thus far. I am very fair skinned and getting married soon and one of the managers helped me to create a "tan plan" to get a base tan to start without burning. Things have been clean and the customer service has been as decent as can be expected for people getting paid $8.00/hr. The only complaints I have are, yes they are a little pushy about sales. I feel like every time I come in they try to push a product on me. Also, when I was signing my contract for a year, I read through everything and noticed that the manager had put 24 months instead of 12 months. There is a clause that says you need to give a 30 day written notice of cancellation. Yeah, it's not the most ethical practice, but it's written right there in the contract. Learn to read the fine print.

I've been going to At The Beach on 61st and Memorial for 2 months now. I've had a pretty good experience thus far. I am very fair skinned and getting married soon and one of the managers helped me to create a "tan plan" to get a base tan to start without burning. Things have been clean and the customer service has been as decent as can be expected for people getting paid $8.00/hr. The only complaints I have are, yes they are a little pushy about sales. I feel like every time I come in they try to push a product on me. Also, when I was signing my contract for a year, I read through everything and noticed that the manager had put 24 months instead of 12 months. I went to at the beach tanning and the sweet little orange lady told me that I should sign a two year contract and I would get all this free stuff! I told her that I would be moving to a town where there is no at the beach facilities and she said, no problem. If it's more than 25 miles away, just let me know and I will cancel your membership. Sounded like I couldn't lose! Well, when I moved, I called and the same sweet peach said that she could not cancel it for me and that I would have to call corporate. I called corporate and they said I needed to send them 2 proofs of change of address, a copy of my new driver's license with my new address, a copy of a paycheck or proof from my new employer, $75 money order and more. It's been a year since I've moved and I've yet to change the address on my driver's license. Who has the time for that? Now, I have been sent to collections for $1,200! I tried to cancel, but they make it near impossible and extremely unpleasant.

I would first like to say that At the Beach has changed, for the better! I think that some people should really give it another shot before throwing in the towel. There is a cancellation policy now, there are no longer 36 month agreements, and you cant even do 24 months unless you have fitness. You can do single sessions, month to month, 6 months, 1 year and 2 year agreements. You can cancel at anytime and the staff isn't nearly as pushy as in previous years. As for your freeze option, you must go into the store 10 days before your payment date to put it into affect. VERY SIMPLE! If you don't feel that everything has been explained to you. Ask questions! The staff is extremely knowledgeable and more friendly now then ever! I love the 31st store. Everyone is helpful and attentive and it's always clean! Plus they know you by name. At the very least go take advantage of your free week of tanning or fitness. What have you got to loose!?

My 19 year old daughter went there alot I always gave her cash because I didnt trust those places, the one time I was out I gave her my debit card and they pounced on it, she told me later they always pestered her everytime she went in there, the sales rep told her this time it was cheaper by the month and she could cancel anytime, and when she told them it wasnt her debit card they said "your dad wouldnt care". She was young and naive and trusted them and signed the papers. I eventually got a credit report in the mail stating they were going to pursue this as a legal debt and if I didnt pay her credit would be ruined. When I talked to the sales rep and asked her why she did this to my daughter, she just smirked out "because I am a monster". I do think we have some rights and decided to go to small claims over this, for one thing my daughter is unemployed, she goes to school and has a one year old child, and could never qualify for a loan. Further this contract is an assumption of debt and has no consideration and there is nothing to give back to them that they own. A finance company would have never loaned her the money, and I didnt give her authorization to use my card for any long term contract, had they called me I would have told them no way ever. Wish me luck in small claims court, I have been told they have a D minus rating at tthe Better Business Bureau. In the meantime, in my opinion I think it is good advice to stay away from this business!!!
