I love reading this paper when I am in town. It has a great local flair, while still feeling like a big paper. They show all the great local stories, and still get all the national news I need.

It's nice for smaller cities to have local papers. Keeping up with local events and occasionally seeing your friends and neighbors mentioned helps develop a sense of community. When your own family is mentioned or pictured a priceless opportunity for an addition to the scrapbook is created.

However, most Broken Arrowans identify themselves as such based upon their school district. Quite some time ago the Ledger clearly made a business decision to base their coverage on a more geographically based model. Rather than providing a community paper for self-identified Broken Arrowans, the Ledger now provides more coverage of the Union school district than many home-towners can stomach.

Without a credible community-based competitor, the Ledger may as well change their name to something less specific than the Broken Arrow Ledger. However, the time may be right for an enterprising upstart to split the Union and BA markets into school district centric coverage.
