I agree with the doctor that wrote in. I think the people that brought in their Yorkie must have gotten Dr. Bartel mixed up with someone else. We have gone to Dr. Bartel for seven years, he has been nothing but wonderful and compassionate. He takes the time to explain everything in detail. He is patient and caring. I would recomend him to anyone who loves their animals.

First, I really like Brian Bartels. He is a nice, thorough vet who has taken good care of our dogs. But I am worried about the kennel. I have taken my dogs there for YEARS, and they have been well cared for. But the long time person who ran that program left a few months ago, and the new people know nothing about customer service. Because they are closed Sundays, when I return from vacations or long weekends, I pick my dog up after work on Mondays. Twice in the last two months they've called and told me they were closing early and I had to leave work to go get my dog. Once they called at noon and wanted me to come right away! Their excuse: the office was "hot." It was maybe 85 outside. What kind of customer service is that? I work -- I can't just leave the office in the middle of the day to go get my dog! I am not sure if Bartels even knows about this; he is usually very customer-oriented. I am giving them one more chance, and if it isn't fixed, I am changing service providers for both vet and kennel. This is not a cheap service, and I expect more.

I've used West Hills Animal Clinic for about 6 years now and have been happy with their services. I was very impressed when the vet mentioned how good my animal's teeth looked and that I was lucky because teeth cleaning can be expensive. It would have been pretty easy for him to tell me my animal needed a teeth cleaning and I would have gone ahead and had it done. I find the vet to be very open to questions and discussing different courses of treatment. I would definitely recommend him to a friend. As for pricing, I'm not sure, I haven't compared. Regardless, too many people don't prepare themselves for the cost of owning a pet. Having a pet and treating it humanely is expensive no matter what vet you go to.

I don't know who the 2005 reviewer saw, but can't have been Brian Bartel. He is one of the finest vets I have ever met. I am a doctor myself (for humans) and in a perfect position to judge. Dr. Bartel has an outstanding fund of knowledge and set of skills. When my dog, Rosie, ate a hunk of plastic and developed a bowel obstruction, he performed a fairly miraculous surgery. She is healthy and happy, years later. He made a housecall when our aged German Shepherd was ready to go. You won't find a better vet in Portland!

WE TOOK OUR LITTLE YORKIE TO THIS VETERNARY CLINIC JUST TO HAVE HER TEETH CLEANED. MY HUSBAND & I WENT ON TO THE BUSINESS THAT WE OWNED AND A FEW HOURS LATER THE VET CALLED TO TELL US THAT HER FRONT TEETH FELL OUT DURING THE CLEANING!!! WE WERE HORRIFIED! HE SAID SHE WAS STILL "ON THE TABLE" UNDER ANETHESIA BUT HE THOUGHT HE SHOULD CALL & TELL US..HE WANTED TO KNOW IF WE WANTED THE REST OF HER TEETH CLEANED BEFORE HE WOKE HER UP..WE SAID NO & THAT WE WOULD COME & GET HER. WE HAD HER TEETH CLEANED EVERY 6 MONTHS W/ NO PROBLEMS AT THE VET THAT WE WENT TO IN ANOTHER PART OF TOWN..WHEN WE MOVED ACROSS TOWN WE CHOOSE THIS VET AS IT WAS RIGHT DOWN THE STREET FROM OUR HOME & BUSINESS. WHEN WE PICKED HER UP THE VET HANDED US A BILL FOR $575 !!! FOR CLEANING PART OF A DOG'S TEETH!! AND FOR LOOSING HER LITTLE FRONT TEETH..4 TEETH IN ALL HAD COME OUT DURING THE CLEANING..SHE WAS NOT AN OLD DOG EITHER..WE COMPLAINED ABOUT THE AMOUNT OF THE BILL..HE SAID THAT WAS WHAT IT WAS AND TOO BAD IF WE DID NOT LIKE IT. WE EXPLAINED THAT SOME MONEY SHOULD BE DEDUCTED FROM THE BILL AS OUR DOG LOST 4 OF HER TEETH..HE WOULD NOT BUDGE!! OUR POOR LITTLE DOG COULD HARDLY CHEW HER FOOD AFTER THAT DAY. WE HAD TAKEN HER IN THERE ABOUT A MONTH EARLIER FOR HER VACINATIONS & MY HUSBAND MADE THE COMMENT TO ME THEN THAT THIS VET WAS MORE EXPENSIVE THAN OUR OTHER VET ACROSS TOWN..I AGREED..BUT I GUESS WE WERE AT FAULT FOR NOT ASKING IN ADVANCE WHAT IT WOULD COST TO GET HER TEETH CLEANED..WE JUST ASSUMED IT WOULD BE AROUND THE PRICE AS OUR OTHER VET...$250 FOR CLEANING TEETH..WE PAID CLOSE TO DOUBLE THAT ..PLUS OF DOG LOST HER 4 LITTLE FRONT TEETH!

PROS: NOTHING..NOTHING..NOTHING
CONS: VERY HIGH PRICES..INSENSITIVE VET..AWFUL WORK
