I've been going to Portland State for almost a year and a half and I have to say I like it. There are a lot of bad things about it -- the advisors aren't always the best, the online classes are a waste of time and money, and it keeps getting more expensive -- but for the most part I'm glad I go there. I take the bus everywhere, so it's an easy destination in downtown Portland. I work, and I tend to have an easy time scheduling my classes on the days I have off or in the evenings after work. Some of the teachers are pretty burnt-out, but some of them are AMAZING and inspiring. Also, there are a lot of student benefits, like reduced bus passes and use of the gym.

PROS: flexibility, location, some teachers
CONS: online classes, advising, cost

Great place to take classes. They offer a wonderful selection of different courses to take and different degrees for everyone. You can even take some online.

I mean yes it is a big library, but I was suprised to take a class at PSU and find no copy of the book we used on reserve. Every college library has a better reserve system that this one...

PROS:
CONS: It isn't open late...

I don't know that I would call PSU a 4-star university, but I am having a 4-star experience. The student body is diverse not just in ethnicity but in age at many schools I would stick out like a sore thumb at age 33, but the students in my classes range from "traditional college age" recent high school grads to retired professionals.

After I got my B.A., I decided I wasnt ready to leave college and took some classes at PSU just to be doing something other than work. I think PSU is a fantastic university, offering nearly every major and degree under the sun. The faculty and staff at PSU let you excel at you own pace. It's not a school that baby-sits or coddles, and you can be as involved in the school as you want to be. A number of students commute to the school, and some complain about the lack of a tight-knit community, but I disagree with that sentiment. The tight-knit is there, you just have to seek it out. PSU is the first school I've been to that practices what it preaches in regard to diversity and I am proud to have attended the university.
