Yes the arcade is a good thing, as my grandson is 9 and I only live three blocks away.. But I called to see if a kid friendly was playing this evening... The person who answered did not know where her head was.. You ask a question about something concerning a movie, you would think the person would know something about the movie and place she/he is working at.. COUSTOMER SERVICE HAS GONE OUT THE WINDOW EVERYWHERE...

Ok after coming to this website and reading the 7 reviews before me, I was pretty excited to attend my neice's birthday and get my game on.
But... when I walked, in it smelt like an old roller skating rink/bowling alley- which I could handle- until 4 games IN A ROW stole my nickles! I ended up telling someone after the 4th game and (after terrible portlander rudeness) the clerk walked to one of the games (and only one) and poked around, pretending like they knew what they were doing and then walked away.
Some other Cons are:
It was packed with kids, one of which was following me around trying to oush me away from games and take them over. He smelt like corn dogs..
Most of the games were old- they did have dance dance revolution, if you're into that type of game though. They had a HUGE screen TV with terrible picture playing basketball.
When I went to redeem my tickets, the clerk made me stand there for about 20 seconds while he quietly finished his drawing of a skull and then told me I had 850 tickets after weighing them. I picked some stuff out and he said "good enough, I don't care" and walked away leaving me a little confused and sorry that I didn't get something cooler worth more tickets since he "didn't care".
ABSOLUTELY NO PARKING- only curbside and it was full, of course. Saturday evening. I parked about a block up and was worried my car wouldn't be there when I got back.
There are a few pros:
Lots of games
Cheap... most take 2-4 nickels a game
Food/drinks are moderately cheap (like 1.75 for a medium drink & 2 something for a large) and there are cheap candy machines and popcorn... maybe some other stuff.
I didn't go into the movie theater- Pretty scary looking. This place is OK for kids with ADULT SUPERVISION since it isn't in the best part of SE Portland.

This is one of the best arcades in the metro area. Your money goes much further here because each game costs a maximum of 20 or 25 cents per game. Most arcades charge up to a dollar or more for the big games.

For bemani fans, there are lots of games to choose from (DDR, Dance Mania, Guitar Freaks, and I drum game I believe). The entrance fee is also very low (2.50 for an adult).

It's a good place for gaming geeks to hang out when they don't have a lot of cash (or have good financial sense not to blow 50 bucks on an arcade).

There's something for everyone, including pinball, air hockey, and games that disperse tickets like skee ball. There's also a cheap movie theater that plays movies that are not new-releases.

PROS: Cheap, Large Variety of Games
CONS: None

If you are planning on watching an older movie anyway, you might want to check out the Avalon Theatre in Portland. They have incredible prices and a decent quality theater. Avalon is great if you need something to do that is inexpensive and fun. The snacks are cheaper than the newer theaters, which is a nice bonus too!

This place is nice and seedy, just like i like it! This is a Portland gem, and everyone should stop in for some good old fun. Great for the afternoon.

The Avalon Theatre is a great place to catch a movie without worrying about your finances. Movie tickets are very cheap and the movies, although not new releases are still mainstream. If a movie isn't enough action for you then try the arcade. After paying admission, the games are very cheap. The round trip ticket is a great deal, it is only 50 cents extra and it allows you one free admision anytime in the following 4 days. The Avalon has cheap movies, cheap games, and cheap fun.

PROS: Cheap, Open Late
CONS:

perfect place to go see the movies you dont want to pay full price for
they still play the movie even if only 2 people are in there watching
the arcade doesnt have the newest games but its nice to have everything run on nickels.
and you dont have to pay to get it if you just come for the movie
good place to kill time without spending a fortune

Despite the unfortunate "admission" charge to get into the arcade, this is one of the most cheap and fun things to do in Southeast. Every movie I've thought "i'll wait for the cheap theaters" about, has shown up at the Avalon, and even the drinks and snacks are cheaper than other theaters. The arcade is complete and fun--overall, the best way I've found t spend a rainy sunday afternoon!

PROS: Cheap!!
CONS: you have to pay for the arcade, even if you already bought movie tix
