Broadway is the place to be. The headquarters building is big and the exterior beautiful. Getting around inside is like going into a federal building, guards and security is high.

Like the employment office - the newspaper is today only one of many sources for job leads. It certainly should not be ignored, but neither should it be the only place you look. The Oregonian does a better than average job of organizing it's employment ads. It also offers the companion online listings at www.oregonlive.com. Be aware that searching the online ads can often overlook some openings in which you would otherwise be interested.

Catering to the Portland metropolitan area, the Oregonian is the largest newspaper in OR and southwest WA. It occasionally writes its own articles regarding national news rather than simply drawing the news from the AP or Reuter's wires.

It offers some local news regarding the various communities in the area, although that can be somewhat limited (given its wide circulation). I have not heard ot the Oregonian customizing the paper for specific regions of circulation.

This newspaper has entire statewide news coverage, although it has quite a Portland slant. (That's good for us personally). There's a fair amount of national news, but not a lot of international news. This is expected in a journal of this type. Look elsewhere for that type of coverage. The Sunday edition is fairly meaty with several sections, a glossy magazine, color comic-strips, and all the retailer flyers. One thing that puzzles us is that subscribing for home delivery is actually more expensive than buying it at the store. We've subscribed to local papers in other cities we've lived in, and you get a discount for subscribing. It makes sense for the publisher to give the subscribers a discount because they are guaranteed customers.

PROS: Good local coverage, especially if you live in the Portland area.
CONS: Subscription price is higher than the newsstand price.

The Oregonian is local newspaper that comes out seven days a week. They offer different specialty items on different days- for example, Tuesday offers a Food Day section, and Saturday offers a detailed automotive section. You can either get it delivered or buy it at the local store or newspaper machine. The nicest thing about this paper is they frequently offer free trials, so you have a chance to look over the paper before you choose to pay for it. When you have a problem, you can call the local distributer, and they rush to correct the problem either that day or the next day. The biggest drawback about this paper is that they are more expensive than other local alternatives.

The Oregonian is a very biased, liberal paper. It's hard to get a good picture of the news because of it's personal bent. We subscribed to it because it's the largest paper in the area, and you can get what's going on from it, but it's not great for world-wide news. The Living section is pretty good, with crosswords, puzzles, and a good selection of comics.

Portland's daily is a solid if unspectacular paper and is one of the top 20 or 25 papers in the country by circulation. If you were to only get your news from this paper, you wouldn't be that bad off, though they have a terribly primitive Web site that will send you fleeing back to the paper version should you ever think of defecting.

The Oregonian does a good, general job of providing community news for Portland and surrounding areas, although it hasn't done as much investigative news as it used to years ago.

CONS: Needs deeper coverage

If you don't regularly read the newspaper, you are really missing out. The Oregonian offers up the news, and regular sections plus some great weekly features. Friday's entertainment guide supplement is a must for all things fun and Thursday's home and garden section has some excellent tips and ideas.

PROS: Beats TV news by a mile
CONS: could use some updating style/graphic wise

This paper is great one to read. It's very informative and thorough in their reporting. Their classified section is so huge and diverse in what you can find, that if you don't find in this paper, it doesn't exist.
