I dont know about all these other people, but I really enjoy their pizza! They also have killer beer prices. For a downtown pizza place, I wouldnt recommend anywhere else!

Pros: Great food, great location great prices

Cons: none

My bf and I usually hang out there a lot. Their food is okay, although my favorite is their veggie pizza. The staffs are very nice, like once when they accidentally burned my ravioli, the guy said that he could make me a new one and he could give me free breadsticks if I wanted. But I said it was fine because the ravioli was pretty good a little burnt. Anyway, I like the loud music they play because it's my kind of music and I guess sometime it's not always for everyone.

Cons: None that I can think of....

I wouldn't go out of my way for this place, but you can't beat a pitcher of beer for just $5. Great place for lunch if you're nearby or just want beer and pizza, but quality is not they're highest priority.

The pizza tastes OK, though it often times tastes like it has been sitting under the heat lamp too long. Beer is cold, breadsticks undercooked (the way i like them!).

I'll go back because I live nearby.

Rocco's slices are always a welcome refuge for the very hungry temporal being who would like to consume nutrients in an earthy and cool non-corporate atmoshphere . . . and it is just accross the street from Powell's Books (how conveeeeenient).

Also, if you are ever looking for a big feed (for many peoples) to-go, I can highly recommend their 19 inch pie. It is generously topped with whatever you like (their pepperoni is thick and tasty, unlike the "razor-thin shavings" that you get in some places) and the huge pie is in a square shape in order to maximize the capacity of the box in which it is placed (who ever heard of this?).

For this gargantuan take-out pie, I would recommend asking to have it "double sliced" (to make for smaller pieces), so that you can have the pleasure of taking on just one more slice without having to make a huge committment.

The (vintage) Pinball Machines and Pac-Man are an amazing form of happy entertainment if you are hanging out (especially with kids). This place is an ethnographic experience for a 10-year-old.

Rocco's reminds me of those street-wise pizza joints in Buffalo, NY where I grew up, and where no one settles for second-rate pizza.

Pros: It's a Pizza Institution, price/value ratio is amazing.

Terrible pizza! Don't be fooled just because this place is next to Powell's books, the pizza is really not that good. Waaay too much cheese, sauce is very generic tasting (grade F quality?) and probably the greasiest meat I've ever had the displeasure of digesting. Although the slices are big, do you really want that much bad pizza? Not to mention the service is just as bad. After sitting at the outdoor tables for about half an hour, drinking beer and trying to digest all that greasy cheese, we were asked to leave! I couldn't believe it. There were plenty of outdoor seats available ( we were the only ones out there!) but we were told that we'd have to buy something more to continue sitting there. How rude! And possibly a bad liabilty move for a business that sells alcohol. If you're in the area and you're hungry, there are plenty of better places to eat nearby such as Pita Pit, Whole Foods, Thai Peacock, and many more. Pita Pit is very reasonably priced and much healthier. Not to mention the staff is much friendlier.

Pros: location, that's it

Cons: poor service, poor quality ingredients, poor pricing

It's decent pizza in a decent location. Definitely not worth going out of your way for. But if you're really hungry and nearby go for it. At least try it. On second thought, don't waste your time or money.

Pros: the pizza doesn't completely s u c k

Cons: thick, tasteless crust, might as well get little caesar's

The pizzas here are awesome. The names are very creative too. They pile on the toppings and the pizza is always steaming hot when it gets to you. It is in a unique location near Powell's Book Store and other fun shopping areas. It is not too far from PGE park as well, so grab a bite on your way to watch the Beavers play!

Rocco's may not be the highest quality pizza in town, but it makes up for this with a great atmosphere and very reasonable prices. $3.00 for a slice of pizza may seem like an average price....but these things are HUGE! Being the big eater I am I can manage two slices of these bad boys, but I like to save room for beer...and being able to move is also a plus...so I stick with one piece. The people that work there are friendly enough, the place itself has a great feel with art all over the walls, and good music playing all the time. From inside you have a great view of the 12th and Burnside intersection which can be a spectacular place for people watching....one of the best in town. The people that frequent Rocco's are diverse, and mostly all friendly. It is much more friendly that many a pizza place....no bad vibes. Oh!...and there is pinball! BONUS!

The pizza and sodas are cheap, but Pizza Schmizza is better if you're looking to save money and/or time. Pizza is always reheated and the crust tastes stale and hard after sitting out under the lamp for too long. It is a fun location (across from Powell's on Burnside) so if you're not picky about your 'za and want some pocket-pleasing pitchers, Rocco's is a good hang out.

I've stopped into Rocco's twice now. The first time I thought it was an off day. The second time confirmed that Rocco's serves terrible pizza. The crust is flavorless, tasting like it might be made from cardboard. It's also too thick. The cheese blend was also pretty bland, and the sauce tastes like the kind bought at your typical grocery store (Heinz?). I had to sprinkle on copious amounts of seasonings to make the pizza edible. Avoid.

Other reviewers have already summed up Rocco's pretty well, but I had a few things to contribute. Their biggest flaw, by far, is that they make their most popular varieties (Cheese, Pepperoni, Sausage, etc) way too far in advance. But here's the deal-- don't let the pre-made stuff tempt you. Find a menu. Notice that for the same price, you can order a personal pizza with whatever toppings you want. They'll make it on the spot, and it comes out of the oven in much better shape than the stuff in the warming case. It takes a bit of savvy to get what you want at Roccos, but it's easy to get used to the cheap prices and hip people.

This is a great spot to go to people watch, relax and eat a large slice of pizza. The size of their slices is the best thing about the food- it's generally pretty doughy and dull, although the last time I went the crust wasn't as thick and I thought it was a better slice. The better part about this place is that it's right across the street from Powell's, you can sit outside in nice weather and there are large floor to ceiling windows on the open sides to watch the world go by. The punk rock crowd enjoys hanging out there, and so do lots of other people. I would recommend it for the ambiance as much as the food.

I really didn't enjoy this pizza at all. Ordered a slice for lunch, watched them put it in the oven and yet they still served me a cold slice of pizza. It was stale and bland anyways once they did heat it up. I'm guessing people only like this place because of the convenient location. The pizza was lame.

Horrible experiences with this place! Off and on about when and where they can/can't deliver, horrible excuses and rude telephone employees/drivers. While the pizza's are GINORMOUS, they aren't anything special. Often spending upwards of $400 on a single order and faithfully ordering for our staff upwards of 6-10 times a year, I'll never ever eat at this place/give my business to this place again.
StarkNaked or Blind Onion MUCH better choices!!!

If you are reading the negative comments do not believe them. The pizza at roccos has the best sauce i have ever tasted and the slices are HUGE. The cheese has that chrunchy on top but stringy quality to it which is just perfect for me. now given that yeah a slice of cheese costs $2.75 and a small soda is $1.50 bringing your cheapest grand total to $4.25, you still can't go wrong with a slice of this godly goodness. The staff is amazing (most being beautifull women) but they are usually more than eager to chat if you want. The music selection varies to ensure the enjoyment of each and every costomer. try it for yourself.

Whoever said Rocco's was a waste of money, missed the boat. If you like premade-cased pizza and are looking to eat something quick on a low budget, you should definately eat at Rocco's. The pizza is good, but the atmosphere is excellent. Whether you want to eat inside or out or even on the go, this is the place for you. My wife and I were searching for a good place to eat pizza before going to Powell's, and we stumbled on Rocco's. We highly recommend it for any and everyone.

I don't know why anyone says that rocco's is good pizza. It's a fun spot to go to in portland, but the pizza is medicore at best! I think the environment is really why people go there. The prices are reasonable, but don't expect to be blown away by the food.

A prime place for N.Y. style slices. Stop in for a good deal on a lunch special. One slice is typically enough to satisfy hunger, as the slices are larger than usual. Awesome painting style on the exterior of the building and relaxed atmosphere inside. Quick and friendly service for cheap east

The employees are awesome first of all. Good music ranging from punk to metal, and for the price it's pretty damn filling. also, it's in a great location with music, books and shopping around. If you go there at the right time you can also catch hot skaters, and the zoobombers that meet across the street on Sundays. VERY IMPORTANT!!!! YOU must always ask for the freshest slice, cuz sometimes like any pizzaria it can get a bit aged. Oh, and it's a good meeting spot to kinda socialize with strangers, most people there seem to be really friendly.

Mediocre, mediocre, mediocre. Too much cheese, the sauce is attrocious (need to dial back the cayanne pepper boys), the toppings are strewn about, the crust is like bread dough. Once was enough. Heard these guys could make a decent Chicago style pie - nope. I'd even take Escape from NY over these guys. Sheesh, can't anyone in PDX make a proper East-coast pizza?

Even though I haven't lived in the Portland area for well over 4 1/2 years, I can still taste the awesome pizza slices that I used to get at Rocco's after a day spent over at Powell's across the way. They had the largest and most tastiest slices than any other pizzaria in town with lower prices than the rest for their size. They also had an ambiance that let you know that you were in the friendliest joint around.

I'd say Rocco's is among the top 3 or 4 pizza places in Portland. And that's saying a lot, because Portland has the best pizza joints of any city I've lived in. Slices are big, with lots of toppings. A good place to grab a slice before or after hitting up Powell's Books.
