Best selection of FRESHWATER fish I had ever seen.....""and I have been around a while""\nThey are a little understaffed so come in when you can take your time and view the selection. The crew is always happy to answer any question you may have and are great at reccomendations.\nI live in Beaverton and usually shop at World of wet Pets but found this was worth my commute.\n\n

They have the best healthy fish at the best prices. We always shop there and have never been steered wrong. I can't believe someone actually recommended Wal-Mart to get fish at! Have you been in there lately?? True hobbyists know where to go and it is not Wal-Mart. And not to mention the supporting of small local businesses.

We recently set up a 55 gal tank since my husband has had over 5 years professional experience with fish, he decided it was time to have a new tank at our new house. We went to the Wet Spot since it was our local neighborhood fish store and started stocking our community tank. I am writing this to let everyone know not only do they have terrible service but they will out right lie to you regarding problems with your tank. We have bought alot of fish from them and have had more than a few die, keep in mind this is only in a 6 week period, so we had our water tested by them to get them to get them to replace one of the fish. Well forget that, they told us our tank was alkaline and then proceeded to have us buy crushed coral to fix it. My husband bought the coral and went home and was just about to put it in our tank when he had second thoughts because did not make sense to his fish experience, so he called kayes and guess what he was exactly right!!!! If we would have put the coral in our tank it would have killed everything we had already purchased, which at this point exceeds $200.00 in fish alone. We were informed our tank was exactly right. So I warn everyone please have the information given to you by the Wet Spot staff checked, it is probably wrong. We were almost victims of the oldest pet store scam, causing us to have problems where there isnt any and having to spend alot of money on products from them trying to fix a problem they intentionally caused. So watch out for the so-called knowledgeable staff at the Wet Spot.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

The advantage of patronizing your local fish store is that they often give you with the knowledge and service that the big box retailers and online shippers don't provide. Don't expect that at The Wet Spot. I visited there my third time tonight and it will be my last. While their selection of Freshwater species is impressive, their prices are near the high end for a boutique store and you will find better service at a Wal-Mart fish aisle.\r\n\r\nI spent 45 minutes perusing the aisles and examining products. All the while, four employees sat near the front of the store joking loudly. I was never asked if I needed help or even given a smile and a hello. In fact, the only attention I seemed to be getting was from the countless signs that informed me that I was being videotaped and would be caught if I decided to shoplift. When I finally headed out, nobody bothered to say goodbye or thank me for stopping in.\r\n\r\nWhat's funny is that I was a bit glad that they ignored me. During my two previous visits I have been treated rudely and condescendingly by employees for asking simple compatibility questions. Every inquiry is treated as if is a major invasion of their private time. This is especially ironic since the store seems to be staffed with pierced, 20-something, pot-smokers with little drive to do more than discuss local concert venues and alienate customers.\r\n

First time there (new tank, first timer) I purchased 6 Tiger Barbs. I got 6 because the deal on the tank said 6 for $9.00. I looked at my reciept when I got home and realized I paid full price for each ($12), but didn't make a fuss over $3.00.\r\n\r\nSecond time there, I told employee that we wanted Neons to go in our tank with Tiger Barbs. But the Tigers were way too aggresive. So I called them for advice and was told, ""shouldn't have mixed those fish"".\r\n \r\nWithin 2 hours of buying the Neons, I took them back hoping for a store credit, but instead was told ""sorry, can't do"". I left the fish on the counter and walked out, as I couldn't let my son watch his fish each other.\r\n\r\nWe like our fish and are just getting started, but will not return to The Wet Spot.

A very cool place for fish lovers. This place is amazing. It has the widest variety of aquarium fish and a very helpful staff on hand. My husband drags me in there whenever we're in the area...it's like he's a kid in a candy store. I am always very impressed with the selection of fish. I recommend you go there if you too are particular about your aquarium.

Can anyone ever say anything bad about this place??? Ok here it is: they?re NOT 24 hours ? that sucks. :( I?d LOVE to be able to call on these guys at all hours of the day when I need something! They know EVERYTHING!\r\n\r\nI have Cichlids and they are the Gurus when it comes to Cichlids and pretty much any sleuth work required for fish disease too. I have 4 tanks now and 35 fish they?ve helped me through it all. I?ve called them with problems, come in with major lists of questions, and never have they made me feel like a pain in the ass. \r\n\r\nThe best thing is that they have experts, and I mean EXPERTS, there and then they have people who know A LOT and when they don?t know, they don?t pretend and keep trying to figure something out ? they say ?HMMMM, I think you should talk to ________, because HE knows a lot about that and I?m not the best person to advise you on it.? I know I can trust the lives of my fish to them and I know I can trust my money?s worth when I buy stuff they sell me.\r\n\r\nThe ONLY drawback I?d say they have is that they have a NO RETURN policy, which on a lot of stuff I understand, but on some stuff, unopened items, I think, should be able to be returned with a receipt. Fish, food, dunked d?cor, or flushed pumps, yeah, I get it. I don?t want to buy anything that could have gone in some contaminated water or even a product that had the package torn open, but lights, gravel, meds, & accessories? If these products are unopened or unused, why not? Even if it has a flaw you can?t return it? \r\n\r\nBut I REALLY like their business name no matter what their policies are... kinda kinky :}\r\n

This place seems to have everything for your at home aquarium needs. My husband and I went to check it out to see if we could find fish other than the pet store norm and were pleasantly suprised at their selection and knowledgable staff. We'll definitely keep going here for our supplies and fish needs.

Excellent store. The staff was very knowledgeable about the subjects I was asking about. I had done some pre-research on the internet and all the facts being told to me by the staff were dead on with what I was reading earlier in the day. This store is also THE place to go for Cichlids - the selection is unmatched compared to all the fish stores I have been to in various states. This is also an Excellent store if you are looking into going with a Live Plant tank. Great selection of plants, lights, fertilizers and CO2 systems. I highly recommend this aquarium shop to anyone that currently has one or is thinking about getting one!!

Pros: great selection, pricing and service

Cons: I spent 2 hours oogling fish tanks :)

The prices are outrageous and the employees lie about their return policy and misinform customers. I was told it was ok to keep an African Dwarf Frog in a 1/2 gallon tank with no heater or filtration AND an open top. Of course, my frog hated it and went into shock because of the temperature change. Then he quit eating. Upon doing some research, I found that ADF's can NOT survive in that amount of water. Especially if the temperature is too low. Plus, they can jump out of an uncovered tank. I hate this place. I've had horrible experience after horrible experience here, and they aren't willing to take responsibility for anything. They'll advise you to buy products you don't need and then refuse to take them back and refund your money. THIS PLACE SUCKS. I would check out Pets on Broadway instead. They have a great staff and great prices.

I used to love Wet Spot. As I have had fish for 50 years, I love a good fish store.\n\nHowever now I can not buy anything for the Wet Spot. why? Because the tanks are infested with Black Brush Algae. This is stuff will overtake your tank and make it look like it belongs in the black lagoon. It is beyond my comprehension why they don't do something to get rid of it. It can be done with a lot of work and It seems to me if they care for the customers they wouldn't want to spread the algae problem to the customers tanks. This stuff can be spread due to the slightest amount in the water or even travel in to your tank in your fishes stomach.\n\nIt's too bad that the owner cares more about his bank account than his customers care.

I have kept fish for several years ,and never had the problems that I had until I brought home fish from here. Two times now I have had to spend more than I would at once to restart a community due to a manky fish bought from there. The last straw and why I'm writing this is due to the 3 loaches that wiped out my Platy tank. Four years and 3 tank upgrades I've had them, all gone. I went back and talked to the cashier, and when she and a co-worker where done talking about an upcoming show (seriously?) I was told that it was something I done and was given a ""Too bad that sucks"". On other visits I have had bad times as well. Bri @ Pets on Broadway is an Aquatic Goddess and is super friendly to boot. Just like after sex I will avoid The Wet Spot.

Pros: big selection

Cons: Sick fish, the staff

I've fairly new to keeping fish (1 year now) but Wet Spot is my go-to-place. They have a pretty wide range of fish and accessories. The staff are knowledgable.....but lets just say that there's some that are even more knowledgable than others. Both combined to ensure that the fish you're buying are nice and healthy (they have a return policy too). \n\nAbout the only downside is that the place is incredibly busy. If you're looking for advice/fish it's now unknown to wait 20-30 minutes to get help. Otherwise it's a great store.

Pros: Experienced staff, great selection, decent prices

Cons: On a weekend it gets busy and is hard to get served

.

Oh where do i start, with the best selection of freshwater fish in the northwest, possibly in the world, having awesome pieces of wood and rocks to put in your tanks, great prices on captive and wild caught fish also tanks and stands. the place has everything. the customer service is great, but if you want to go in on the weekends, try being a little patient. from what ive seen, they get to everyone as quickly as possible, but some times they can be a little understaffed. so put on that smile and wait patiently, let me tell you its worth the wait. i love andrea, abby, amanda, garrett, and pretty much everyone from there staff. if i have a question, they have the answer, if not they'll find it for me. compared to world of wet pets, kays and the place around the corner, the wet spot is the OG of the fish industry. so keep it real and try out the wet spot. ASK QUESTIONS AND IF YOU BUY FISH, FOR GOD'S SAKE, GIVE THEM A GOOD HOME. fish have feelings, their not just decorations, their living creatures. go vegan.

Whew it's warm inside. They do have a great rock and wood and nice looking plant selection. Their fish can be a bit pricey to other fish stores. They have like 2 helpful employess that actually seem like they want to help you. Every other employee seems to avoid you like the plague. They do test your water and help with stuff you need. All around pretty good store. More expensive than others.

I've been coming to the wetspot for many years. I LOVE the selection. The fish are always healthy and reasonably priced. The tanks are well kept too. I'm disappointed in the decreasing selection of plants here. I'm also HIGHLY DISAPPOINTED with the lack of customer service. A few years ago, the staff would at least sort of engage customers. Now, the staff seems apathetic. They are not friendly. They do not greet you. They rarely smile. If the fish weren't so great, I would go somewhere else.

here are three places, (and the only ones might I add) that are local to me.) they are my only opportunity to buy fish. mind you, i have 4 aquariums, a 4 foot long cornsnake (who thinks hes a dog) a 24-26"" bearded dragon, and a racoon. (i own the racoon legally if your wondering) i also have two dogs and 3 parakeets. \r\n\r\nPetsmart ""( sickanddyinganimalsbythesecondstore )""\r\nPetco ""( okayservicebuthalfdeadpetstore )""\r\nExtreme marine fish store ""( 500marinetanks2freshwatertanksstore )""\r\n\r\n\r\nso before we went i looked up fish stores in the portland vicinity. I happen to like (as well as most likely, all of you guys do) non-chain, self owned fish stores >ALOT< more than the torturous chain petstores. (i had better wrap this up quick)\r\n""fish works"" was closed, wich was our first try, so we went to ""the wet spot tropical fish""\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\nPHYSICAL APPEARENCE ""enviornment""\r\nfrom the outside the store seriously lacks lighting, and to me and my possie looked like a coffee shop that used fafrican cichlids as the theme. A nice touch, but in 2 ways deceiving. Back when I first got started on fish they helped me big time. They took the time to explain everything to me and helped me through it all. And when I did have a problem it didn't feel like I made a huge mistake and the world was going to end because something was wrong with my tank. (I had a few sales people at different pet store make me feel like I was purposfully doing things wrong and that I was going to murder all my fish.) They have a HUGE selection of fish!! I felt like a kid in a candy store. The people are real nice and helpfull.

I have been shopping here for a couple years here and have always thought they were the best all around. They have always had slow service, but the tanks looked great and fish were healthy. That and the selection I thought were worth the extra cost. The last three times I have gone in I havent recognized any of the knowlegable staff I was used to. All three times it took almost an hour to make a purchase of one fish I had already decided on due to the unhelpfull nature of the staff, and more importantly, their tanks are looking horrible! Last time I was in there were sick looking or dead fish in a lot of the tanks, and nasty green and black hair algae on everthing in all the tanks! I would still shop there for their great plant and rock selection, but Im not buying any fish from them untill they hire some new people who will help customers and keep the tanks clean.

Pros: Amazing selection of live plants

Cons: Consistantly bad service, fish not as healthy as they used to be.

The whole store is one big relaxation cove. The tanks are well maintained and the fish are all healthy and active. The selection is absolutely amazing!! In all of Portland NOTHING compares to the selection found at the Wet Spot. I have been to many different pet stores and this one tops them all. The staff was helpful, friendly, and willing to work with you. \r\nAlso I was amazed that they are willing to take in unwanted fish for various reasons, by appointment. I think that is truly wonderful. \r\nI have met the owner and he is very well knowledged and takes the extra time to explain to you exactly what is going on with your tank, if you are having problems, and does so with such ease that it is apparent he has been working with fish for a very long time. It is also my opinion that good staff stem from good management and from my experience I would definitely say that the Wet Spot has both!!\r\nI would recommend this place to anyone!! \r\n

Pros: Superior Selection and Quality, Great Customer Service and Understanding Staff

.

The Wet Spot has an amazing variety of freshwater fish that are kept in great condition. Many pet stores will sell fish that are sick and not in the best condition but at the Wet Spot they tell you right away if a tank is sick (which is VERY rare there) and they won't let you purchase it until they sure that the fish in that tank are all doing well.\r\nThe place is neat, clean and the best part is the wonderful service! It's very refreshing to have the staff know many of their customers by name. The staff is very patient explaining whatever questions you have. The only draw back is that often other customers have many questions so getting help becomes tough when its very busy. Though with a little patience the staff attends to your needs as quick as possible and spends the same amount of time with you, making sure to answer any question you have. \r\nAlso it is very rare to find a store where they will be honest with you. If they don't sell something or know what products are really needed for your tank they will tell you. I experienced first hand that they didn't sell something I was looking for and they recommended another store where to look for it. \r\nLastly, keep in mind the store only does store credit and no cash back, though that's really not a problem since they have so many different things to purchase there and also there is no expiration to the store credit and its good towards anything. \r\nAll in all the Wet Spot is simply GREAT! I would recommend it to anyone, and I have and not one of them has disagreed with me. So if you are looking for great fish, welcoming staff and good deals, the Wet Spot is where I go!

Cons: No Cash Back, Gets Busy on Weekends

The Wet Spot has a large selection of fish. However once you buy a fish from them, don't expect any help if you have a problem. The staff is more than willing to sell you a fish, but once you leave the store they couldn't care less. I have purchased fish from them twice. Both times my fish died within one week. When I returned to talk to them about it, all the manager would do is show me their return policy(24 hours). The only fish I have lost came from the Wet Spot.

This is the best fish store in town! It doesn't matter whether I go in when my favorite \r\nemployee is there, who is Andrea, or not, there is always someone there who will\r\n jump in to help me. I shop there once a week, as they have the live worms my fish\r\n crave and they are always getting in new stock, and they have weekly specials.\r\nThe tanks are clean, as there is always someone\r\nworking on waterchanges every time I go in. If you think these prices are high, try\r\none of the smaller pet shops in town their average fish costs are about 50% higher ! \r\nWhen I buy a fish at the Wet Spot, I know the proper latin name, prices are\r\nresonable, the fish are healthy, I have a nice printout with the latin names, \r\n the staff is very helpful, and they know their stuff! The last two smaller outfits I\r\nvisited didn't even know the names of most of their fish! This is one of the many \r\nreasons I will continue to be a regular customer at the Wet Spot! \r\nThank you Andrea!

It is near my house so I have tried a number of times and I can't believe how hard it is to get someone to help you and when they finally do, it's like they are doing you a favor. Will NEVER return.

The Wet Spot Tropical Fish is the best place you can go for your everyday fish needs. They specialize in anything and everything, both Tropical and saltwater. In the past their famous fish, Bernie has made it to the news for his special tricks. The people that work here have the highest knowledge in this industry and they offer excellent customer service, when a person can get to them. This place is always so busy, it's difficult to get helped, but with lots of patience, somebody will get to you and help you out. Wet Spot is always very clean and have healthy fish, if the fish are sick, they usually move them to the back room and properly medicate them and refuse to sell sick fish to anybody. The owner eats and breathes fish and he also owns another place up the street specializing in internet and fax orders. He is a top breeder of all types of fish.

You might want to wear light clothes when going in. They keep the heat turned up in order to heat all the aquariums instead of using heaters in each tank.

PROS: selection, customer service
CONS: slow service when busy

This store feature the best selection of fishes. They have some of the most beautiful exotic fishes here. Some of them I have never seen before. They categorize the fishes into region: Asian, N.American, Africa, etc... It's really cool knowing that these fishes come from all over the world. It's like you travel there and get these fishes yourself! They also sell handbooks and guidance for taking care of the fishes. The fish foods are really cheap, by the way. I can custumize and create a unique diet plan for the fish that ensure the get healthiest. This is the best place for a fish.

This place is amazing! It's like the old Bell's, when it was off of Kellogg in St. John's, but better. They have a great selection of killies, catfishes, cichlids, plants, and odd and unusual fish. I am a dedicated customer of this place. On Saturdays or rainy weeknights you can expect this place packed to the gills with fish nuts buying fish and looking for advice. The owner, Steve Lundblad, has been on the Portland fish scene for twenty years and has been overseas multiple times to view and collect his own tropical fish. A great place for the real aquarist!
