I often wondered why this place that I have been going to for many years received so many bad reviews, well tonight I found out. I went after work alone at about 9:30 pm when it was slow. I waited for about 10 minutes to be seated as the sign said, and finally sat myself at the bar. There were glasses in front of me, and lots of water on the bar. The glasses were cleared away in a reasonable amount of time, however the bartender "Wade" never said a word as he grabbed them and walked away. Long story short, the bartender would only show up every 10 to 15 minutes. I asked at least 3 times over the course of my stay for him to wipe up the water, never happened. After waiting quite a long time, and grabbing my own menu, I was asked, "what do you want"? Well a beer would be nice, and I ordered my food. The food came fast, however the menu should say $ .75 per slice of bacon, as my burger only had one. Wade assured me that was normal. The burger was dry, and by "secret sauce" apparently they meant extra mayo. The miracle came in the form of the fries, I never knew you could get fries burnt, yet incredibly soggy... Yes dripping. The fries also came in a such a small portion (about 15 or 20 small sized) I was happy I didn't order the salad (probably two leafs and a crouton). The worse part, THE WORSE was as I ordered my second beer (finally) I watched as "Wade" knocked the head off using a dirty spoon. With a wet wallet (thanks to the creeping water on the bar) I paid my tab and left. Thank you Wade, I now know why this "pub" gets such bad reviews. I will never go back.
While my father and brother were in town, we tried the Thompson Brewery and we were sorely disappointed. The servings were very small, and not all that good. They do have a great variety of beer, and a beautiful location, but that is about all they have going for them.
Thompsons brewery is a hidden treasure. We drove past it several times, not realizing it was a resturant. We finally stopped in one time, and it was excellent! The resturant sits inside an old historic looking home. The seating is in various rooms in the house, downstairs and upstairs. It has such a neat atmosphere. The waiters are friendly, and not "buggy". But they are around when we need anything and to make sure we are doing well. Even at busy times. They dont have a large menu, but the choices are great, and the prices are relatively cheap too. We were surprised after our first visit. The food, service and prices keep us coming back!
