Urban Tour Group

This group is composed entirely of volunteers (my mom is one!) and exists for the purpose of giving school children an up close view of the city, its history and some of the places and building where events in Portlands past took place.

I was lucky enough to tag along and I learned so much about the city. The group of kids I was with really enjoyed it - the guides go through a training program and many of them are retired teachers, parents or both, so they take care to gear the talks to the appropriate age level.

If you have a school age child, you should check into the program and recommend it to your child's teacher.

Not your traditional operation, you'd only likely ever have heard of it if you have children, but Urban Tour Group is run entirely by volunteers and is dedicated to giving children a better understanding of the city they live in. They'll take your class on tours of the downtown area to teach them of its early history, its buildings, and the like. Your class should enjoy it.
